Props for actually knowing about that, most comments I see are from people who never read any of the books. If you watch the film though, he and Gimli go through many, many pints of beer before Gimli passes out and even at that point Legolas is only barely noticing a slight tingle, so it remains true to the story of the son of Thranduil.
