  • As one of the smartest men on Earth, he says "um" but, um, he's still amazingly smart. Haha

  • i wonder if he'll make a good History teacher. Especially American History.

  • @jas0nv00r33s

might have showed for class more often then too

  • I wish I was like greg, he knows whats going on and he know what he is and how to live his life... hes got it all.

  • @wyattb995 you can too! start reading books, start thinking. its easy and fun

  • best book i've ever read... great stories from his past, a lot of humor, and some great facts and intelligence!!!

  • @RittreRooney I think an important point Greg tried making in this book was that believing in evolution doesn't take away the purpose of living. The purpose comes from people and their love. But that's probably not correct either because "purpose" in this case is pretty subjective. How does believing in a god give purpose anyways?? other than some post-death purpose..

  • @emg8186 well, most if not all religions give a definition of God as love. so the term God most nearly means Love, for all intents and purposes. Now, God and religion are two very different things. Religion is an attempt to structure Love, to structure compassion. Remember, God is Love. Jesus said this, Buddha said this, Mohammed said this. No believer in God would ever differentiate between God and Love. Also, Greg Graffin is not an atheist. I read his book, and he says he's Agnostic.

  • @trank31337 I would say that a lot of believers would differentiate God and love, and I know quite a few who do. And I haven't read his book yet, but are you sure he's an agnostic, or is he just a weak atheist, because there seems to be a lack of discrimination between the two by people out of the know.

  • @that1stupidkid613 Well in his book he says that because he doesn't know either way, and 'God' is essentially a non-issue for him, he is agnostic, meaning basically he doesn't know and he doesn't care. Athiests actually have beliefs because they believe that an all powerful presence for sure does not exist.

  • @trank31337 No, that makes him a weak atheist. You could even possibly derive ignosticism out of it, but that isn't agnosticism. Because, vice versa of what you said, agnostics DO believe in a divine being, just unsure, (or uncaring) of what kind.

  • @that1stupidkid613 Agnostic means you believe the question of God is irrelevant. It doesn't mean you're still deciding. Saying that there is 100% no God means you are acknowledging the viewpoint that there IS a God. So in a way, saying that you don't believe in something means that you acknowledge the possibility of that something's existence. For example, I don't walk around telling people that Unicorns don't exist. I don't even think about it, it's irrelevant. See?

  • @trank31337 Also Athiests tend to be very self righteous, or at least some of them, ie taking out billboard ads and such, whereas agnostics don't bother other people

  • i don't know why but i feel the need to hug him just once at least that would make my life

  • i've been a fan of bad religion all my life and i'm just now noticing he looks and almost speaks like kevin kostner

  • He has such a great smile....ahhhh....I LOVE GREG!!!

  • he wants to conquer the world, give all the idiots a brand new religion!

  • Gordo y calvo!!!

  • @cultureSmock1978 and you a looser, poor and do not fuck!

  • @jas0nv00r33s That would be cool.

  • Greg. Call me!

  • Love the book Greg I'll call myself both x)

  • I'm Christian. And I love Greg so much :/ it hurts to read that book.. How can you go thru life when not even thinking " yes, I'm living for a reason" not just gunna die.. Idk :/ all o know is, Gregs sexy as hell I love him so much. Lmao

  • I'm going to stick with atheist. You're still my hero Graffin

  • i read this book. completely changed my views on religion and the overall way i look at punk music...

  • gemius! graffin for president!

  • (sigh)I Love this man....

  • Greg Graffin is so humble so I can't help but to love him, even though I have faith in God above. God Loves you to Greg! Don't care about the hypocrites that makes religion into what it is today. God Loves you Greg and I will be praying for you!

..Writing this almost makes me cry..

  • @MaYouDoTube

I have respect for peoples beliefs, I dont agree with the fundies who reject science and evolution, or they say that you are not a good person for not beliving in god. Just so you know, his band is agients those fundies hence the name Bad Religion

  • @pbrskater26 Yes, I could figure out Bad Religion is against the fundamentalists who think they are gods. I myself was against all religion before I got somewhat of an epiphany. I quit listening to religious people and started to read the bible myself and realized it had nothing to do with religion at all. I urge anybody to read the bible without the religious bias. There will be justice in the end. Not the kind of justice crazed fundamentalists talk about.

  • I'm sorry, but when i hear the term "naturalist," my mind immediately jumps to "nudist." I think I'll just stick with "agnostic" for now...

  • Can't get more punk than that :D

  • @jas0nv00r33s

i heard that although yes he is punk

he is a real hardass when it comes to teaching

  • @g4aaaa wouldn't that be more because he is punk? or at least by his definition of it in his punk manifesto

  • We could all learn something from this Man!!

  • This book is what I would like to call the atheist bible. It is pure awesome, if you're into philosophy. If you hate that kind of stuff you'll just end up frustrated.

  • New interview w/ Greg re: Anarchy Evolution:

    hxxp://chuckpalahniuk (dot) net/interviews/musicians/greg-graffin-of-bad-religion

  • not a single word about anarchy...........

  • damn i wanna read this

  • Greg is probably the coolest professor ever ^^

  • @KerreyTheBitterSugar Probably? No doubt about it..!!

  • He seems a little nervous...

  • @ShadowSam13 he has played shows for 30 years in front of all types of crowds, not to mention being on live television. you're wrong.

  • probably the only punk i know who knows exactly what he's talking about

  • @reb2550

that may be because of the shows you've seen them at I.E. Bad Religion

There are several intelligent punks who know our stuff out there but these are not usually the circles that we travel in.

  • so.. is this book out yet or what?

  • Comment removed

  • @TeenageHeadcase nevermind, it's out on October 5th 2010 according to Amazon.

  • they never liked you.

  • greg is my dad so fuck off

  • Query: why bother to post this 'neath a video that br fans are obliged to watch?

Query: do you procure elation through exasperating strangers?

Elucidation: these inquiries are not intented to vex you.

Explication: I thought the previous elucidation was necessary do to vestiges that have led me to believe you are easily irked.

  • is this book out yet?

  • njpunk quit talking out of your ass. You dont sound smart with anything that your saying. You're just trying to use fancy words to dress up your stupid poorly thought out paragraph. If you want to state an opinion for everyone to react on, then at least put it in terms that make sense.

  • I'm me and you are not. That's what I will take with me. And leave my offspring and legacy of music with the abundant ability and self gained intelligence, to use you for the liars you are, as test subjects and recipients of our table scraps; that someday one of your unwanted children may grow up to read the truth and turn on you. Then place a target where it needs to go, and protect our world from people like you.

  • Balls to ...

  • Marty Munsch has sometimes been referred to as The Phil Spector Of Punk Rock because of his particular approach and style, that uses the wall of sound technique, that he has dynamically modified in conjunction with Analog signal processing (ASP) or Digital Signal processing (DSP).

Gee I wonder If I'm related to this punk rock faggot.

  • njpunk1234, I think you'll find that it was Brett Gurewitz who had a drug addiction, NOT Graffin. Early 80's saw problems for the band. You should also know that Graffin received his Master's Degree in Geology in 1990, only later did he study teaching. I fail to believe that you have worked as a sound technician AND for a whole bunch of senators, let alone 3 presidents!... but I'll give you credit, you can come up with a good story when your nothin but a low piad night watchman or whatever

  • Any teacher gets the respect of my crotch.

  • are you saying dr.Graffin TURN YOU ON?

  • I even did sound for them several times. His bands music isnt the best. Just because he has an education degree doesnt make him smart. Firstly he is a former junkie. secondly a degree in any education system is so overated because ANY person can buy one. I've worked under 3 sitting presidents and 16 active U.S. Senate members, More Congressional leaders and Prime Minister of Pakistan and several others. Tell me about what worldly influence he has?

  • Their views in music aren't any more obtuse than most ideologs that have their heads up their ass, because they think just because they have a platform that is music, that people automaticly will agree with them. he was in the right time at the right place.

  • you are aware that he both teaches political sciences and practises what he believes in through bad religion ... greg graffin is a little more than a blip in punk rock history, he is someone who deserves great respect

  • @njpunk1234 @njpunk1234 wow. you are REALLY not very good at putting things together. and by the way, Earth can't be owned even if the scumbags that YOU follow convince you otherwise. tell me what you're gonna take with you when you die? your house? your yard? your car? you're just sad.

when the laws of god just make ya pissed ya better become an atheist!!

  • @HeatherHell666 dead! dead! dead!..... ;)

  • @njpunk1234

I am glad people like you type the way they type. This way your retarded comment is easily recognizable as one.

  • I wonder how many groupies he gets in his Bio classes.

  • any one know what greg graffin's pollitical stance is?

  • Kinda reminds me of Mr.Brooks.

  • LOL! XD

  • Can't wait to get that book!!!

  • Graffin kicks ass regardless of his digs

just wish he wasn't so gung-ho naturalist.

but the comments on this are friggin hilarious

  • Whats wrong with it? I'm a naturalist, I dont belive in a god.

  • i used to consider myself a "naturalist" too, so i comment back in peace. and i am certainly not a preacher. i never in a million years would have thought that through Jesus i would find the truth. don't let "religion" or your personal bad experiences with "religious philosophies" stop you from turning over stones. if you don't believe in God, keep trying to prove yourself right, and eventually you'll understand me. check my link, you'd be surprised. i'm the bald guy. take care, pbrskater26

  • Well I had bad experiances with the church, my church was very concervitive anti-intillectual and anti-science and evolutin. I felt oppressed intellectualy because it seemed like if I questian serton aspects of christian theology i was conseterd a herritic, the bible is not a science book and is not ment to be taken literaly. Also the what really made me think was there is no free will in christianity, you eather have to go with god's will or your not really a christian!

  • i can't blame you for your perspective. i appreciate your opinion very much. i used to feel the same way. you'll find if you keep your mind closed to one possibility, regardless of the side of the fence you fall towards, then you're doing yourself injustice, and unaware of it. you're on the right path, but keep digging. history itself is clouded in much speculation, and all we can do is our best to figure it out. God's not the jerk he's presented as. you are smart. have faith, not religion ; D

  • I know there are theists who support evolution, the evolutinary genetist Theodious Dobenski; he is the one that said "nuthing in biology makes sence except in the light of evolution". I dont agree with the intelligent design/creationist movement, it's not science! If I did belive in god it would be the deistic god because I dont agree with origanized religion, I wont to think for my self! I also have a scientific mind!

  • thinking for yourself is a good thing, but i'd still keep picking up rocks and looking for new info. science and math are the language of God, or at least in my personal opinion. you'll see ; D

  • Dude, you and I are totally coming from the same place. I love Jesus, but so much of American Christian culture still makes me cringe in disgust.

  • @sorenkierkegaard2008 You had just the right words.

  • hes so punk he doesnt even care if hes wearing a college professor suit

  • That's 'cause he is a college professor.

  • omg no fuckin way!!!

  • Yeah, he teaches Life Sciences 1 at UCLA over the winter/ spring. He got PhD's from UCLA, Cornell, Harvard, and one more, but I forgot it.

  • These days, a college professor's look is more punk rock than a fucking mohawk.

  • Punk is not about fashion, that's how some of the punk sceen was dying off. Look at all the emo motherfuckers!

  • yeah it is much smaller but much more together now

  • Ha!

  • @FistFullOfDavid that's so damn right. in fact, I have always believed that if there is any definition to "what punk is" (and if we really wanna play this stupid game of defining some label) it would be just this: not caring about punk. whoever tries to "be punk" is as far from it as they could ever possibly be. if you don't give a fuck, well, then there you are. that's why bad religion, more than any other so called punk band out there, has always personified this concept perfectly.

  • @FistFullOfDavid And he IS a college professor.

  • @FistFullOfDavid He is a college professor suit though

  • @FistFullOfDavid He is a college professor

  • ummm...he IS a college professor...

  • "most important thing is to never stop questioning" Albert Einstein

    "explore all things" jesus

  • yep

  • cant wait no doubt it will be a good read

  • awesome! so how is 'Naturalist' diff from 'Atheist'?

  • A naturalist is accepting the truth as it is, but it has to come through scientific facts and veryfication. An athiests belief is that there is no god.

  • Greg Graffin Is pure class!

  • he looks so cute at 00:59-01:03 XD

  • haha yeah, it's true :)

And apart from that, the man's a genius!

  • I can't wait for the book to be released. Is Belief in God Good, Bad or Irrelevant was a great book, and that wasn't even intended to be a book, so I imagine this book wil be even better.

  • He looks like he doesn't like having a camera shoved in his face.

  • He is a very smart guy. He is most definitely miserable though. As most incredibly smart people are. He's a dweeb though. Hero!

  • I look up to this guy, he is the only person I look up to, besides steve erwin. Science FTW!!!!

  • knowledge is power

  • This guy impreses the shit out of me. a PHD! wow Grag thats badass. That explains the insanely acurate lyrics, this just shoes you kids who think punk is an "image"

    RESPECT

  • i heard he teaches a hard fucking class, alot of people drop it

  • He has to make it hard otherwise everyone would take it to say they had a class with the lead singer of bad religion!

  • He seems nervious at the camera lolz

  • Can't wait for the book... I've read an interview where he talked about it and I'm getting more and more impatient... ;]

  • Greg Graffin has a pHd. seriously and he teaches at UCLA. look him up. this man knows what he is talking about in his songs.

  • Genius thanks Greg!

  • Greg Graffin For President!

  • from brazil

    Greg graffin for President

  • never thought about that, but hey: that would be GREAT

  • I thought Greg was anti authority?

  • Not necessarily anti authority.

He says you should question authority if you find it questionable. Or something like that.

  • Just question it..? And if you find the authority to be wrong, then what? Just lay down on your back and write a song or two about it?

  • "Do what you want, but don't do it around me".

I'm not an expert on Graffin, but I believe that's pretty much the core of Bad Religion's message. If there is one.

  • Everything is questionable.

  • So question what you think needs questioning.

  • you can call it what you want greg but the true sadness is that people just still can't eccept it for the truth.

  • Holy cow! Is this the same guy that rocks the stage? Greg for president :D

  • I have uploaded Greg Graffins Talk About Suffering. Amazing track feel free to check it out - comment and rate!

  • my brother Knows this dude!! because his son, graham graffin, is the lead singer to my brothers band. watch them at rolemodels youtube!

  • no fucking way man greg graffin is like god dude like ur brother is so fucking lucky like id give anything to meet greg graffin

  • Is hard to believe that man talking in the video is also an international rockstar...

  • this guy's awesome

  • iam buying that book definatly!

  • It depends on how broad your definition of religion is. There are many who say that everyone has a religion because everyone has a view of the world.

religion - 1) a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

  • What is humanism in relationship to naturalism?

  • Dictionary definitions. Yes they can be expanded on, but it's a start

naturalism - a manner or technique of treating subject matter that presents, through volume of detail, a deterministic view of human life.

humanism - 1) any mode of thought or action in which human interests, values, and dignity predominate. 4) A variety of ethical theory and practice that emphasizes reason, scientific inquiry, and human fulfillment in the natural world and often rejects the importance of belief in God.

  • There is a certain level of awareness that can be reached through any religion, including the religion of naturalism. It's all about losing your sense of self and submitting to a higher power, be it God, Budda, Science, Truth, Art Music or whatever. Very few people reach that higher level. Religion gets an extremely bad reputation because it is so often missunderstood, and misrepresented. The key is to continue questioning and searching for the truth.

  • Not to be a dick or anything, but last time I checked, "naturalism" wasn't a religion. I think you might mean transcendentalism. But then again, this is just a comment on Youtube, and we're all people damn it. Fuck it, I like movies, HOW 'BOUT U?! : P

  • "Tarzan2402" its correct, thats the true.

  • You can be an even more interesting atheist by calling yourself a tuna salad sandwich instead.

  • ay ay Greg Graffin For President!!!!

  • God forbid (no pun intended) someone who doesn't believe in God to be president! Madness!

Joking, of course. People should realise that God is complete bullshit.

  • lmao

    will you marry me? lol

    i totally agree with you!

  • Awesome!
