Actually, the reason why people like GAMEOH and myself(although i don't really troll) hate bands like 30 Seconds is because as musicans they aren't that good at all, and because they follow the same verse-chorus-verse format everyone does now. Point is: people(mostly musicians actually) hate pop bands. The Cure weren't rebellious at all. They're alternative rock, and not alternative as most people know it now(like 30 stm, blink 182, etc.) but REALLY alternative, with densely layered instruments and keyboards and stuff. And I liked 30 stm when their very first album(their self titled album) was out too, and yes, as a pop band they're completely different from everyone else out there. That doesn't change the fact that there are a lot of similar, but less pop oriented bands who are better

I have listened to 30 Seconds to Mars in fact at one point I thought they were rather good. Their new stuff just sucks. End of story. As for whether or not they are pop: yes 30 seconds to mars IS a pop band. They have some progressive influences, but so did Genesis -_- what I'm trying to say is yeah they're different to an extent but they still write songs with catchy choruses and stuff in order to make money. And 30 Seconds to Mars may be unique for a pop band, they're basically just Porcupine Tree for emo kids i.e. vocals that get annoying after awhile, 4 to 5 minute song lengths, and songs i could play after playing guitar for about 6 months.
As for their new album I will agree it did not have the same "lets have every song sound the same" deal that their previous album had.

I'm not going to lie, I think 30 Seconds to Mars, along with every other pop alternative band out there are bad and I personally don't like it, but both lyrically and as musicians, I will admit these guys are loads better than most pop bands. Don't get me wrong, there are far far better bands, but as a pop band, 30 seconds is probably the best out there cause hey, at least they show some form of talent as musicians. They shouldn't be famous cause a lot of other bands deserve the fame they have

The labels have really gone crazy the last 8 years. I used to work for one of them. I remember when things were fine and everyone was happy. Then in 2001 everyone got really weird. It came from the top but everyone went along with it and blindly followed. Then they merged and merged and everyone suffered.. Those who didn't get laid off had to absorb position after position. It just sucks!
Even if the record company was still recouping costs and not paying royalties the band still have touring money, merchandising and publishing royalties. Jared wont be going hungry tonight, lets put it that way....

The Cure weren't rebellious at all. They're alternative rock, and not alternative as most people know it now(like 30 stm, blink 182, etc.) but REALLY alternative, with densely layered instruments and keyboards and stuff. And I liked 30 stm when their very first album(their self titled album) was out too, and yes, as a pop band they're completely different from everyone else out there. That doesn't change the fact that there are a lot of similar, but less pop oriented bands who are better

I have listened to 30 Seconds to Mars in fact at one point I thought they were rather good. Their new stuff just sucks. End of story. As for whether or not they are pop: yes 30 seconds to mars IS a pop band. They have some progressive influences, but so did Genesis -_- what I'm trying to say is yeah they're different to an extent but they still write songs with catchy choruses and stuff in order to make money. And considering what complete trash their new album is, I think it's safe

Progressive influences as in they are influenced by progressive music: classical, progressive rock, krautrock, etc. Most people would know that "progressive influences" would refer to progressive music, not a progression of style. See what I'm saying?
And 30 Seconds to Mars may be unique for a pop band, they're basically just Porcupine Tree for emo kids i.e. vocals that get annoying after awhile, 4 to 5 minute song lengths, and songs i could play after playing guitar for about 6 months.

I'm not going to lie, I think 30 Seconds to Mars, along with every other pop alternative band out there are bad and I personally don't like it, but both lyrically and as musicians, I will admit these guys are loads better than most pop bands. Don't get me wrong, there are far far better bands, but as a pop band, 30 seconds is probably the best out there cause hey, at least they show some form of talent as musicians. They shouldn't be famous cause a lot of other bands deserve the fame they have

The labels have really gone crazy the last 8 years. I used to work for one of them. I remember when things were fine and everyone was happy. Then in 2001 everyone got really weird. It came from the top but everyone went along with it and blindly followed. Then they merged and merged and everyone suffered.. Those who didn't get laid off had to absorb position after position.
