  • Where can I find the longer crochet hook? I can't seem to find it at my local craft store or Walmart.

  • Your instructions are amazing! I love how they are so easy to follow even for someone like me who has never crocheted before.

  • @Necromacide Thank you.

  • Great idea of the grippys on the hook :)

  • I nlove the pattern ...If I wanted to do an afghan, how many chain stitches do I start out with and how do you keep that many stitches on the hook? If this is a silly question, sorry...I'm sort of a beginner. Thank you!

  • how many yards of yarn did you use?

PS: I've learned so much from your amazing videos thank you!

  • You know what I loved about this? I listened to it on my way home from work and understood it without watching it. I love your tutorials. Now if I could just get mine to stop curling...I've tried everything!

  • You know what I loved about this??? I listened to it on the drive home and I didn't even have to watch it to understand. Your tutorials are so clear!! Now of I can just get it to stop curling.....I've tried everything.

  • how do you get your tensian stitches so flat? mine curl up lol but i can't get it to lay flat do you have a tip? lol

  • I can't get Andrews Keepsake -crochet to print I just get a big mess, how do print out instructions?

  • I found out by accident that if I go into the back loop of each stitch on the first pass it doesn't seem to curl as much! Love love love your videos!!

  • It kind of reminds me of knitting, the way it looks on the long crochet hook. Beautiful!!! I am going to make this for the in law as a scarf! :)

  • Thanks for the tutorial! I have only recently started learning the Tunisian and it was really kool to add in another crochet stitch to mix it up a bit! Started this a tiny bit longer and planning it to cover a throw pillow! Happy to see you have a couple other stitches that I never bothered learning to play with as well!

  • can you tell me why can you not use the same hook for both the shell and afghan stitch just wondering

  • @jeanbes100 The hook size is the same. If you are comfortable working with the long hook making your shells then use it. I change because it is easier to work with the shorter hook for the shell. If you use the shorter hook to make the tunisian stitch, it will run off the end of your hook and come apart.

  • @tjw1963 What if you do not have the longer hook?

  • @sonyamagana1987 Could I use a knitting needle???

  • @sonyamagana1987 I don't think a knitting needle would work very well but you could give it a try anyway.

  • @tjw1963 I just went out and bought the hooks. I have been needing to anyway. Thank you ;)

  • Hey Theresa! loving this project. you're such an awesome teacher and one of my favorite ppl to watch on you tube.

  • Your videos have helped me so much. You are a blessing. I've been crocheting for one week and have accomplished so much. Ty

  • @scrowe215 I am happy you have learned so much in a week. Keep up the good work! :)

  • Teresa, you are awesome, so profissional. Thank you. I love your videos. One of these days I will utube a project that I managed to do. But I am still learning and master the stitches before doing any official project.

  • @supermelodia Thank you. Practicing the stitches will help reduce frustration when you feel ready to work on a project. Sometimes making something simple like a small granny square will help boost confidence as well.

  • What do you do if you want to make something longer than your tunisian crochet hook?

  • this is beautiful! i was a bit scared to try tunisian crochet but now when i saw your tutorial...i need to buy a long hook! thx

  • Teresa, thanks for this instruction. One question: According to the video, after doing the 5th dbl crochet in the third shell, the next instruction is to "skip 2 stitches, work a shell in the next". Is there no single crochet between the third and fourth shell as there is between the others?

  • @bensbiqa What is the time code you are referring to?

  • Thank you so much, Theresa, for these crochet videos. I've learned quite a bit from them. I appreciate the time and effort you put into them. =D

  • TERESA tienes algún gorro hecho en punto afgano?? es un punto precioso

  • You are a very good teacher! Thank you.

  • I was informed that you need to use a hook 2 sizes larger than recommended by the yarn in order to prevent curling. do you recommend that?

  • @kithrakat I would have to try it to see if it works.

  • @tjw1963 Thanks for responding, Teresa. 21:10 marks the beginning of the third shell. If you start there I think you'll see what I mean.

  • @kithrakat I tried a small swatch and it does reduce the curl quite a bit by using a larger hook and smaller yarn. I would recommend this tip. There is still a slight curl but not as much as with the larger yarn.

  • I can't seem to find an answerto the question of how do you modify this to make a baby blanket? How many loops can fit on the hook? how would the other woman do 210???

  • @mooniehanna The loops will be squashed up together. The best way that you are going to find out if it will work for you is to give it a try.

  • Thanks so much for your great patience and simple way of explaining the afghan tunisian crochet. I really appreciate it!!

  • @dihjet You are welcome!

  • This is soooo beautiful, I can't wait to get started.

  • @StaffChih Thank you!

  • I love this video! I have the same question as Steven young, however - I understand that I can widen the project to afghan size by increasing the chain to any multiple of 6 (to accommodate the shell stitch) BUT how do I fit 210 loops on my long crochet hook to do the afghan stitch?

  • Wow. I love it . I always wonder what that long crochet stick was for. You are great teacher.

  • @nathylane How cool is that! I bet it will make a pretty picture!!

  • I love it! I can't wait to make a baby throw.

How many chains would I need for a baby blanket?

    Thank you,

  • I love it! I can't wait to make a baby throw.

  • I just love this stitch, I like it that I can do needlepoint on it or is it, in it....and the half wheel makes it look so lovely......thanks so much

  • I have watched this video a bajillion times. I LOVE thiss look. BUT, I can't find a pattern anywhere using this. I am really struggling and would love a pattern, even if it were written version of this video.

Please, where can I located a written version? I've looked and looked on your blog site.

  • Teresa, if I wanted to alternate colors (for a baby afghan...in mint, purple and yellow) when would I start the new color? Right after you do the shells? Or the row after you do the back loops of the shells? thank you

  • Teresa, thank you for this great tutorial, you are a great instructor. You have made it look so easy and possible to learn.

  • hiteresa can you learn us how to make crochet blouse i like that one

  • Hi

How do I make a blanket out of this stitch ? How do I get it as wide as i want it ?

    Thax

  • @stevenyoung34 You will crochet a longer chain from the start. The multiple is six so you will need to keep that in mind. For example you can crochet a chain of 210. You can divide 210 by 6, that will give you 35 shells.

  • @tjw1963 Hi teresa,ty for replying so quickly. I understand about the 210 chain, but how am I going to fit that much on an afghan hook ? Also, I want to tell you how wonderfull your crochet videos are. I am one who cannot read a pattern. I have crocheted 5 blankets in the past 2 months from your videos alone. Prior to that I hadn't crocheted in a couple of years, due to not able to read patterns, so ty !! I look forward to crocheting new ones from your videos Thank you Sandy

  • @tjw1963 Shouldn't this be multiple of 6 +1? Example 25 is 6x4 + 1. You need the plus one for the last anchor single crochet,, Or am I missing something

  • @LadeaHawke It is 6+1 and is reflected in the written instructions on my crochet blog. Link posted in the video details.

  • @tjw1963 - Thank you,, you have added a written link since I first started viewing this video about every other week since April. I finally got around to trying it and had quit looking for written. You are AWESOME! And your videos are extremely helpful to those of us whom have not crocheted in 20+ year. It is like riding a bike if you have ever crocheted before - just seeing it has made all the things 'click'. Have a great weekend

  • @LadeaHawke Thank you. I have had a busy spring/summer so I am behind on some written instructions. I just go back and work on them later.

  • Dear Teresa, I have learned so,so,so much with your videos! Thank you for being so generous and sharing your knowledge. This afghan using both crochet techniques is fantastic. I loved it

  • @SuzanaBehmer I am glad that you liked it. Please share a video response of your project.

  • @tjw1963 I am new to doing the afgan stitch and just don't see how to make it a long blanket on the one hook do you just leave the hoops on the hook and do the whole length of the blanket? Or would you make it into pannels. Thank you for all youre videos I have gotten so many idea's from you thank you.

  • Dear Teresa , I have learned so,so,so much with your videos!! Thank you for being so generous and sharing what you know with everybody. This Tunisian afghan using both crochet techniques is fantastic! I love it

  • i was wondering if maybe your next video would be a tutorial on using a double sided tunisian crochet hook

  • Hi, I realy love this pattern for a blanket, I'm wondering for about a twin size blanket what are the hook's I need to get? How big the hooks have to be? And the lengh it have to be to fit all of my stichts or points.. The pattern look's very easy to make with only 25 stichts, but if i had a lot more. It can be more complicated with not the right hooks. Can any help me please? Thanks :)

  • These are great. The dark painted nails actually make it easier to see what you are doing. I just got my first tunisian crochet hooks - made from bamboo and love them. I've been working with knitting looms and these are more fun - and your videos are really helpful.

  • If I were going to make a baby blanket- how many single stitches would I begin with? In the video you begin with 25 and I know that would not be enough for a baby blanket. I am a novice....thanks!

  • @crazymered1 You will work chains in increments of 6. I am going to estimate a chain of 162. That will give you 27 shells.

  • Hi Teresa - thanks so much for all your vids, I really enjoy them! I'm anxious to make a baby afghan with this pattern but I can't seem to find the multiple for it.

  • @BourdeauxTheCat The multiple is 6

  • ohh i really love this look!! thank you Teresa! :D

  • @galaxydreams2 Thank you! I appreciate the comment.

  • do you have a picture of anything finished with this technique? It would be fun to see something done with it.

    peggy

  • @pegschr The beginning is from a scarf that I completed.

  • @tjw1963 Do you have a picture somewhere of that completed scarf? I would love to see the stitch on a larger completed scale

    peggy

  • @pegschr The best picture of the stitch is in the first 9 seconds of the video and shows the width of the scarf.

  • I think this is lovely! I had to make this when I saw it because it looked so beautiful. The Caron Simply Soft yarn is very soft and tends to seperate while working. I made a pillow for my 4 year old granddaughter and she loved it. Thank you for all your ideas and instructions.

  • @Melatina77 Thank you! You can use any type of yarn to make this project. It does not have to be Caron.

  • Where do you get those grips for the crochet hooks

  • @matthewperry1982 The grips are pencil grips purchased from walmart

  • Ok I'll try it. It's a red heart pattern called post stitch throw

  • Could you also answer me a question please?

What does slip stitch in ch 2 sp mean?

    How do you do it?

Normally in uk patterns we don't slip stitch in the spaces on starting rows, we use a turning chain

  • @matthewperry1982 It means that you will slip stitch in to the chain 2 space. You can do what works best for you. Sometimes there may be several different ways to achieve the same outcome.

  • Thank you so much I'll give them a go x

  • Hi from England!

I have a red heart yarn pattern for a afghan stitch rosebud throw I wish to make as a gift.

Do you know of any companies that could ship ne the super saver yarn to Britain?

It looks a great yarn and it appears to be what we would call here an Aran weight which we tend to make fushermans's cable jumpers with and don't get all the great colours you get in the US!

I have tried looking for it here but no where in Britain stocks it!

  • @matthewperry1982 I think Herrschners ships international and America's Yarn Store

  • Thank you so much for your tutorials. I am trying to make a large size blanket and my crochet hooks are connected by a plastic tube. Have you ever made a large size keepsake blanket? May we see it? Its a lot of work and one of my edges are not straight. Help. God bless!

  • @SassySophelia I made a scarf. If your edges are not straight, it is possible that you may be missing a stitch on the edge or working in a different stitch, which will give you a lopsided edge.

  • Hi tjw1963,

I'm fairly new to crocheting, I've gotten down the hdc so with that I would love to make my baby cousin a blanket but would like to add ribbon and a shell finish, can you help me? I don't know how many to chain for the foundation. Your videos are such a great help. Thank you :)

  • @tjw1963 What would be 18 inches??? I was asking about changing colors and carrying the yarn up the sides of your work... will that work if you are going to add an edging

  • @suz8879 Sorry, I have accidentally answered the wrong comment. It was meant to go further below to a comment below.

  • Teresa I just want to thank you again for all of the great work that you do. Even your videos are exempliary... you not only show us what to do you TELL us how to do it. I appreciate this so much.

I was wondering if I could change the color on the shells carrying the yarn up the sides of my work as i am wanting to make a blanket that i will add an edging to when I am finished.

  • @suz8879 Yes, you can carry the yarn up the side and use an edging to cover the carried yarn.

  • My work is getting quite lopsided on one side. What could have contributed to this happening and how can it be fixed?

  • @redeyedracoon It is possible that one end may be worked tighter than the other. You may want to check your stitch count..

  • I would love to try this in afghan form. but I am so confused as to how many chains I would need to start with. How many chains would you recommend for an afghan?. Your videos are so inspiration and educational...thanks you so much!

  • @TheNaturalDiva I would recommend a chain of 210.

  • @tjw1963 what size crochet hook to add on 210 stitches? Thanks

  • @wmslulu4 An approximate 18 inch hook. You are going to find different sizes.

  • What a wonderful job you do of putting these together and sharing your expertise. Way to spread the crochet lovin'!

  • @StitchingWithLove Thank you!

  • I have posted a video tutorial for sewing in the tails. You will find it as a video response and an annotation link in the video.

  • thank you very much! I enjoy your explanations, you are good :)

  • The problem with your videos is that you get me SOOOO excited to start a new project that I have a hard time completing the current project(s). I love your tutorials! I can't wait to start this one!! BTW, your squared nails look really nice in this video. =)

  • The problem with your videos is that you get me SOOOO excited to start a new project that I have a hard time completing the current project(s). I love your tutorials! I can't wait to start this one!!

  • I found that at the end of each round, I was confused as to why it was not even on both ends. However after repeating the same stitch it became easier. Thank you for these vids!

  • @soultressbeauty You are welcome! :)

  • what kind of yarn are you using? 4ply?

  • @tsopana25 Yes, I am using 4 ply Caron yarn.

  • i dont know if anyone has asked this yet . but i was wondering the longest crochet hook i could find is 10" for this scard does it need to be 14" ?

  • @huynh14 A 10 inch hook will work too.

  • You asked what difficulties we have with this and I've got to say the only problem I'm having is my scarf is forming toward the left a little. Just not quite straight. I'm making sure I'm starting all the way on the right and I'm getting the right number of stitches. Maybe I'll just get it going straighter as I keep working it.

  • @slroot06 I would suggest to work your stitch loops loose. Try to keep the looseness consistent on both sides.

  • hi Teresa! i make a scarf like this one and i don't know how to finish after the last row of afghan stitch please please please help me.

    thank you,

    Paula

  • Mine keeps folding up at the beginning, why would that be?

  • @1SidekickAddict It will curl for everyone. You can work a foundation row of single crochet or foundation single crochet which will help reduce the curl.

  • @1SidekickAddict

Leave a really long tail when you do your original chain. After you do a few rows, go back and use the tail to do a row of single crochet along the bottom

  • Do you have any videos to make leg warmers?

  • do u have written instructions for the Andrew's Keepsake tunision/shell scarft/afghan?

  • Nice project. Thanks for your tutorials.

  • @mafaldareina You are welcome!

  • You are so talented...nice work! :)))

  • I luv it. thank u for sharing:)

  • @ppsf1958nr I am happy like this crochet project!

  • What if I am making a shawl and need to chain more than 25. So do I need a more longer hook.

  • @r00p123 Yes, you will need a longer hook.

  • Nice :)

  • This video is wonderful Teresa! I've had trouble with the afghan stitch before (from trying to learn by looking at books) and this made the light bulb go off big time! It's such an easy stitch yet it looks so complicated! I love it! I will be using this stitch to make my mom a scarf for Christmas - Thank you!!

  • @kaytarose Thank you! I am almost finished with my scarf. Just a few more rows.

  • the spot that plagues me is the last stitch on the right to left pass, I have been trying to pick up the two edges like you have shown, and sometimes I think Ive got it, then I look back down the edge and its all mish mash. But this is my favorite style for "regular" crochet with yarn vs. crochet with thread.

  • Your videos are great! Love this pattern - if I wanted to make a baby blanket, can you tell me how many stitches I would start with - or is there a formula?

There is a bunch of us at work learning to crochet and I direct all of them to your site.

  • I love all your videos, and am so glad to see more of your tunisian crochet. The thing I find most challenging about the tunisian stitches is that my hand tends to get SO much more tired than with regular crochet. I've found written patterns for tunisian crochet, but I don't know how to read them, which is disappointing. Thank you again! Also, I adore your nail polish in this one. :D

  • This is a very beautiful pattern, i love it and to thank you for all the great stitches and techniques that you share.

  • @pmlcrochet You are welcome!

  • Theresa I am following along but I have difficulty doing the behind the stitch I seem to lose a stitch and also its curling on the bottom any suggestions? I love your stuff

  • @Kaiseih The curling happens to everyone. You can work a row of single crochet to reduce the curl. You may want to work your row of shell looser, so you can find the loop behind the stitch easier.

  • This is a very beautiful pattern and I can't wait to try it out! Thank you for doing this. I discovered where I had been messing up with the afghan stitch in watching this video. You are very good. Please keep making the videos.

  • wow!!! this looks so cool. i will try it out and post a video when im finish. this will really take me out of my comfort zone of the double crochet lol . wonder how long its gonna take me lol excellent video as always lady!

  • I would call this crochet knitting. Amazing.

  • @furtherbeyond This type of crochet has several different names. It looks harder than what it really is.

  • That is really pretty!

  • @leigh4health Thank you!

  • you have the best videos..........do you create your own patterns ......? you have any pattern for boys age 10 jacket..........please guide me....thanks.......YOU ARE AN AWSOME TEACHER....!

  • @asmaMs20 I do create my own patterns. Thank you!

  • I love this! I just started a new scarf yesterday and now I wish I'd of seen this video first! Oh well, I guess I'll have a new project to start once I finish.

  • @kaytarose ME TOO :D

  • @kaytarose Now you can make another one!

  • I love this pattern - very pretty and easy! The problem I am encountering is no matter how many times I start over, my work wants to curl up at the bottom. Is there a way to prevent this? Thanks a bunch! :)

  • hmm, what size is your 14" needle? What's the letter or metric size of it? Thanks Theresa. I love your vids.

  • @JDRgoddess i just re-watched the vid.... it sais they ARE a size i ... sorry.

  • Do you have the left handed portion up yet? o.o

  • @falulu209 Not yet. I should have it up by the middle of the week.

  • @tjw1963 Okay thank you :3!! I am in love with this <3

  • I love your videos. You're always so patient. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

  • I just tried doing this for experiment's sake and I gotta say it's turned out pretty easy to do. I love the thickness, it would do great as and afghan but I am having a bit of a hard time when I gotta switch from one type a stich to the other but I'm betting that's just until I get used to it.:) Thanks for posting this vid.

  • Theresa I love this but I need to get that long hook. The one I see online is 14" but how wide shoukld it be I see that there are several thicknesses. Thanks

  • @Kaiseih If you are working a scarf, you can do with with the smaller crochet hook.

  • it's the bastard child of the crochet hook and the knitting needle!

  • do you have another channel for those that are looking to start a business

  • @africanbeauty113 I have a second channel. What are you looking to do?

  • i cant wait to try this !!!thank u teresa all ur videos hekp me very much!!!

  • Beautiful, I love the way this looks. Thank you so much for all you do Teresa!!! :)

  • Could you use this pattern as a beanie hat? If so could you do a tutorital on a beanie with that pattern

  • I need to find my afghan hook >< I wanna make this

  • @falulu209 You can use the shorter hook if you are making a scarf.

  • Thanks for making this video!! I would never have thought of combining the 2 crochet methods. Are there other stitches that combine easily with Tunisian that you are planning to teach in the future? I'm waiting (impatiently lol!!!) to see what else i can try !!!!

  • @jcrefasi1 I had never combined the two before. Someone asked me a few weeks ago how a shell and tunisian could be combined. This is what I came up with. I can see a lot of crochet pattern stitches being combined with tunisian.

  • Love it! Can not wait to try it. I always wondered how to use those extra long crochet hooks. Thank you
