the covers in this concert are so fabulous because they are not meant to copycat the originals... these great artists are here to express their admiration for Nick Drake making their own interpretations of his music and the result is very nice...
Holy cow! I'm gonna need some Pepto after that! Is that the way the woman in the bizarre outfit ALWAYS performs, or was she just high???? I hope people who've never heard Nick's version heard THIS one first. JEEEZ!!!!! My ears are bleeding!
what the fuck is Martha doing!!! This is terrible. She doesn't seem to know how to approach this music. Did she not know about Nick Drake until ten minutes before the concert started? Her style might work with her own music, but when it comes to covering musicians like Nick Drake; she seems to be out of her element. This is almost disrespectfull to Nick Drake.
Disrespectful!!? Rubbish!. I do not think Joe Boyd Robert Kirby et al would have involved themselves in something disrepectful. In context with the show and the whole evening it worked wonderfully. but the video does not do it justice. A sold out Town Hall cannot be wrong can they?
Let me explain myself.- For me, Nick Drake is unlike any other musician. I personally don't like people covering his songs unless they do him justice. Don't forget, Nick Drake never got to perform his own songs on stage and to have someone like Martha prancing around on stage with complete disregard for the music is, not a little, but VERY disrespectful! All these people involved themselves in the concert as a homage to Nick Drake. however, That doesn't mean they did a good job at it.
I agree that Nick is unlike any other musician, I first heard his music in 1970 and, have been a huge fan ever since. Nick did play some, but only a few, live dates.
Were you at the concert? probably not if you do not like people covering his music. To say Martha Wainwright had complete disregard for his music is ridiculous she would not have been there if that was the case. It was a wonderful evening, a celebration of his music and they certainly did make a good job of it.
hmmm.. whenever I go back and watch old 'great' films or eulogise about music being better in the 'old days' to my kids.. I'm usually disappointed by the original.. not as good as I remembered it..time plays tricks methinks..
This is better than the original in my opinion 'Mr/Ms face of jesusetc etc'

Do you think Nick would cover a Martha song her style? I cover Stones songs w/ my twist to them.
The best thing is these people are keeping the music alive! How many Martha Wainright fans know who Nick Drake is? Now they do.
Nick drake was an amazing muscian and the more people that are exposed to his music and look him up and buy his albums the better! Don't you think?

What is there to get.? It seems you were not at the concert which celebrated the life and music of Nick.
You do not like people covering his songs.. .
But You cannot judge the evening or Martha Wainwright on a piece of video taken by a member of the audience.
Disrespectful???
Now I certainly do not get that!
If anything it was the opposite .Musicians and audience alike paying their respects to Nick and his music..
