NFL Coaches get their asses handed to them in college. teaching players football is required, exploiting mismatches is king, x's and o's is less important. Also, you must go unbeaten, in the NFL, teams take games off.
NYTimes scribe Thayer Evans said of Red Raiders head coach Mike Leach, "For nine years, Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach has toiled here on the dusty plains of West Texas, often being regarded as a football madman directing a sideshow. His team has been more known for its spread offense, which some consider gimmicky, and his eccentric personality has been celebrated in YouTube lore." Mike's response to the "football madman directing a sideshow" crack? "I don't have any disagreement with it, really."
I would be interested to see how Leach would do at the NFL level. Conventional wisdom states that his system wouldn't work there but it would still be interesting to see (conventional wisdom was wrong about his system on the college level).
Very few college coaches actually do well in the NFL when they were college coaches. The only ones that were truly sucessful were Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer I really don't count him because he did it with Jimmy's players and coaches.
