THERE IS NO OVERPOPULATION ONLY OVER-EXPLOITATION, DEGRADATION AND CENTRALIZATION OF EARTH'S RESOURCES FOR THE PROFIT OF JUST A FEW. LOOK IT UP YOURSELF.
To the person thinking about having their fourth or fifth kid : There are people who willingly choose to not reproduce to give your child a better chance. People who woud want to have this joy of children, but choose to restrain to give your offsprings a better life. After reading this, ask yourself are you doing the right or the selfish thing, and after concluding to have a new kid regardless, ask yourself will this person who chose not to have kids come to the aid of your children after that.
If we're in agreement here that overpopulation is such a big issue, then Sir Attenborough needs to get over the fact that people will only stop breeding if we force them to. It's that, or we ALL die. I, for one, am not in favor of using force, but my sensibilities have no sway on the reality of our situation.
A good idea for African governments would be to invest in condom/counterception companies and sell it for a fair price. I think the governments could get a lot of money from that and use the money to improve education and hospitals or other concerning things.
I think this closely relates to the food chain. predatory species (man) hunts for food, adapts to environment and becomes adept at getting food from animals and plants. as time progresses, the species becomes dominant eating everything in sight. lack of challenge from other predatory species and ready availability of food leads to longer lives and increased population...until the things mankind eats become extinct or unavailable.
Oh I'm so ashamed of being born, all us evil humans....... I hope you're picking up the sarcasim. This is georgia guide stone propaganda and a load of b.s.
Very informative video. I try so hard to plead about it, I'm glad it's finally brought in a clear, structural, understandable way by someone who is taken seriously by many people. The way you put it really matters when you try to communicate something. Many thanks for uploading, and thanks for making, David! MOAR VIEWZ!!!
I am not racist, but i think this: every white modern civilization have max 2 kids per mother, because simply they dont want more, as they cant afford it. every brown NOT very modern civilization have about 5-10 kids per mother. Now tell me where the problem is.. Most of white countries dealing with massive problem how to not die out, just because there new generation does not have enough kids, but most of brown imigrants have 5-10 per mother... WAKE UP
It's not only about how many children you have, it's also about the food and the water we waste...
The white countries (as you call them) are the most educated ones, it's normal that they have fewer kids, but they're more educated, and they could think about the consequences, and act... By not spilling water, by eating differently, by educating people who didn't had a good education
@josefstuchlik1 very well, but the consumption per capitat is far higher in the western world than anywhere else with our excessive living and such. thats the biggest problem- the stress created on a planet that cannot sustain it because of population growth
The question has never been "How are we going to FEED all these people?" Overpopulation is quite easily explained as a result of overproduction of food. The real question is "How are we going to stop PRODUCING all these people?"
In funny way, are we not merely victims of our own evolution? Sure, We've proven to be very successful animals, but perhaps a bit too successful. An unfortunate irony I guess, lol. It's just hard to know what to do. Deny people's right to children, or all out extermination? Of course, those are the most furthest extremes, so somewhere there needs to be a balance, but then you've got eugenics and all kinds of controversial factors. Interesting program though.
What type of currency do they use? If it's FIAT, then there's the reason for humans growing out-of-balance with the natural resources. You have to have a commodity-based currency. A gold standard like Ron Paul proposes....you don't need population control. You need BANKSTER control.
Solution.... education to all....& people who go into prison or preform unjust acts of sexual assault to be desexed (male & female). The pill to be free and those who choose to have children must prove they can care for their child (food, shelter health)
this would never work, as 90% of population simply dont have any £$.. that means if your idea is thrown in to practise, we would all die out very very fast...
Education would hopefully solve the problem but I fear we'd end up with only retards getting pregnant. This is a severe problem and it needs severe action. Anyone with an IQ less than 100 should be sterilized.
It's for the good of humanity and if anyone mentions hitler, ive got some hefty gas cannisters waiting for you.
Do people get more stupid the more of them there are? Looks that way to me....of course overcrowding violates personal space and ignites bloody wars. Perhaps China is doing right resisting more overcrowding by forcing abortions on people instead of getting their leaders killed for food....
Stop funding IVF, and these idiots who make as many girls pregnant ass possible.. Lop off their nuts... Not just sterilise them, a full castration should act as a deterrent to others.
I went to school with someone who had got 7 girls pregnant, and didn't support women or the baby's. A perfect example of someone who needs to be castrated.
1 hamburger 8000 litres of water. You can't have 7 billion people living on earth all eating meat and dairy. the only sustainable way forward is as a vegan population.
1 cup milk = 4,000 litres of water. Think about it. Are you willing to change to a plant-based diet for the sake of the earth? You have the power to change.
Rainwater tanks, water reticulation, water recycling and stormwater harvesting is something all councils and governments must do instead of environmentally destructive dams.
@chacoal actually 3 people are born every second but 1 person dies each second so worlds population grows by a average of 2 people per second. in fact after a mega-death disaster when some earth quake or tsunami comes and kills more than 100,000 people this has the global effect of slowing population growth for about 1 day.
main problem is...simple...i am not hurting any religious sentiment here...but critical thing is most fertility rate is seen in Muslim population where ever they are in world so to compensate their increased growth other religions like Christians, Hindus and other religions compete as this may lead to their non existence. FACT is simple reduce fertility rate in Muslims other will reduce as well...but chicken or egg??if rate is 1 per pair world will be wonderful place!! or else its gone case...
A truly free market economy without government force, regulations or taxes is what will enable third world countries to develop economies so wealthy that they can even afford to extract drinking water from oceans if necessary. Raw materials do not limit man, provided that technology can evolve to truly make the most out of them. The ONLY system for unleashing the innovative power of the human mind is a free society (and parenting) that uses reason instead of force or violence to solve problems.
Sir David Attenborough himself has two children. So he has contributed to the overpopulation problem. I can say that because I don't have any children.
8:02 - 8:10 is the proof that there is no need for global one-child-policy and global police. Why repress the Japanese, Eastern Europeans and Russians who can perfectly handle the situation themselves?

This new system is called a Resource Based Economy.
This resembles too much the philosophy of Malthus to be credible.
I find it disturbing that an organization based on science (the zeitgeist movement) would promote a theory which basically says that science does not provide extra production, does not upgrade the production mechanisms, and that scientific discoveries do not contribute to bringing abundance.
So what "abundance" does the zeitgeist movement talk about? would their abundance only apply to a handful of humanity?...
Get fucked, you intellectually dishonest twat. We don’t genetically modify humans in order to “remove diseases” from them. What is disgusting, however, are people like you who swallowed and now repeat the corporate propaganda of “It is absolutely harmless” despite no or even contradicting evidence.
When discussing ethic issues you always have to ask “Can we reverse the action in question?”. In case of genetically modified food which could affect our genome the answer is obviously “no”.
@Rokinijas no panicking, it doesn't really bring solutions to the table, just more confusion, i agree with Atternborough at the end of this programme, that if we change our ways bit by bit we should be able to achieve some sort of equilibrium, or at least be near this. so maybe a little panicking will help, but not much! :P just enough to motivate people.
@Lascalla True that the British are some of the most profound hypocrites you'll ever meet i.t.v. giving lessons on the environment and morality, but surely you have to agree: Numbers don't lie. There is a finite amount of space and and ever growing word population. Something, at some point, is gonna give.
By the way ... don't listen to conspiracy theorist, in your reference to Fox News. People that voted for Obama are probably eating their words as we speak ...
@Lascalla Well you've got to be able to look past the negative attributes and try to work just with the facts. A lot of it's fluff, for sure, but there's no question that we need to stop pumping out kids, stop with this nationally and personally divisive society (which necessitates having more kids to be in "your" family"), and educate everyone properly so that we can talk on an equal level, rather than the governments running it all, and most country populated by slightly-above-ape-people.
I planned on having one, max two, children almost 10 years ago because of this. Hell, even the girl I'm trying to woo atm has told me she doesn't want children and I'm okay with it! And our little contribution goes to the dirt because of some ignorant bastards at Afghanistan >:(
Also, I live in Mexico City and it's true, but it's rich people the ones that have water all year and waste it. Iztapalapa zone here has to suffer reduction yearly. It's also a bad old infrastructure fault it keeps going
@rodylermglez lolll Bastards in Afghanistan? You know why birthrate increased in Afghanistan? It's because the rest of the world went there to "help". Educated women with jobs are far less likely to have multiple children. Simple laws to control birthrate in occident would be enough to my opinion. I don't think we need to produce more food. We already know that most of the food we are producing in America is wasted.
In all seriousness though, if more people acted on these concepts instead of thinking/hoping for them, the world would be a better place. We all have the personal responsibility to do our best.
im watching this on my computer which used minerals and is using right now electricity while drinking some coca cola which used lots of water and metal for the can. Hell yeah I love consuming.
im watching this on my computer which used minerals and is using right now electricity while drinking some coca cola which used lots of water and metal for the can. Hell yeah I love consuming!
Stephen Hawking touched on this subject, in a very short answer, we need to expand into space. How we do that when our technology is limited and no signs of other planets that are capable of sustaining life is beyond me.
Our children won't look back and question why. The poor children will die or grow up and know nothing but their current life and the rich children will continue to do what we've always done - turn on the TV and mind our own business and not the planet's and not our specie's.
The collective intelligence of the human race cannot overcome such daunting obstacles while being restrained to the current politico-economic system, I think.
If we don't do something to make governments around the world more in touch with the extant needs of the people, economies, and ecosystems with which we must cohabitate, the next few decades may be some of the most harrowing our species has ever experienced as one.
i am 15 and already know that i will not have more then 1 kid and i already am supporting the poor family's in my region i am happy that my mother have raised me this way
This is somewhat scary. I'm very interested in life extension and I'm reading Ray Kurzweil's and Terry Grossman's book Fantastic Journey. However I notice that as a country becomes more wealthy it has a lower death rate, but a much lower birth rates. And the opposite is true for poor countries.
its only superficial to control birth but not to imagine completely wrong and unethical, the problem lies in a system that promotes wastage for the gaining of profit, a competitively driven market always will choose superiority for profit over superiority for labour conditions and the environment and you cant change that fact about our own capitalist/free market system
@MetalSlugzMaster If you go back to that tim you specified, you can see the F's are not really crossed, they're just the f shape. Long s's (the sss sound, i.e. hiss) were written as F's without the crosses.
@clutchninja Thats true, but only if we continue in the current commercial system we have today. If we managed our resources better in combination with technology, then we could have over double what we have now, but commerce keeps restricting that in the name of profit.
@HatlabuFarkas Yes, Im VERY familiar with the commerce, banking, and legal BS. aaannnd zeitgeist.. and the research on the freeman... the financial institutions are VERY corrupt and constantly dishonor the commercial maxims.
@CH1P52 that's right. but how to break through this circle of commerce in a world, where nearly everybody can imagine the end of the world in any possoble way but hardly anyone can imagine the end of the current commerce system of money, greed, mangle and a poor majority... :/
(a long way to go to get the almost perfect system in 24th century of star trek ;D)
@clutchninja Today? Sure, as many as they can support. But, what about the future? The world can support only so much. I agree with freedom and all that jazz, but what happens when food, shelter and perhaps even technology become scarce?
I would not second guess telling people to stop having multiple children at this point; sadly when it might be too late. Just my 2 cents.
THERE IS NO OVERPOPULATION ONLY OVER-EXPLOITATION, DEGRADATION AND CENTRALIZATION OF EARTH'S RESOURCES FOR THE PROFIT OF JUST A FEW. LOOK IT UP YOURSELF.

Shud we panick of the future ?
Rokinijas 5 months ago
@Rokinijas no panicking, it doesn't really bring solutions to the table, just more confusion, i agree with Atternborough at the end of this programme, that if we change our ways bit by bit we should be able to achieve some sort of equilibrium, or at least be near this. so maybe a little panicking will help, but not much! :P just enough to motivate people.

First of all, it's a BBC Documentary, so it doesn't deserves credit.
Second, since it's BBC the first word to come at mind should be "Infoxication".
Lascalla 7 months ago
@Lascalla - and why doesn't it deserve credit?
spyN09 7 months ago
@Lascalla True that the British are some of the most profound hypocrites you'll ever meet i.t.v. giving lessons on the environment and morality, but surely you have to agree: Numbers don't lie. There is a finite amount of space and and ever growing word population. Something, at some point, is gonna give.
By the way ... don't listen to conspiracy theorist, in your reference to Fox News. People that voted for Obama are probably eating their words as we speak ...
tallend9 7 months ago

It's also a bad old infrastructure fault it keeps going
rodylermglez 7 months ago
@rodylermglez lolll Bastards in Afghanistan? You know why birthrate increased in Afghanistan? It's because the rest of the world went there to "help". Educated women with jobs are far less likely to have multiple children. Simple laws to control birthrate in occident would be enough to my opinion. I don't think we need to produce more food. We already know that most of the food we are producing in America is wasted.

In all seriousness though, if more people acted on these concepts instead of thinking/hoping for them, the world would be a better place. We all have the personal responsibility to do our best.

the documentary doesn't tell How Many People Can Live on Planet Earth. A proper title would be "how can we reduce population".

populations always grow to the limits of the food supplies, limit the amount of people being born and there should be plenty.

Stephen Hawking touched on this subject, in a very short answer, we need to expand into space. How we do that when our technology is limited and no signs of other planets that are capable of sustaining life is beyond me.
DirtyDishSoap 8 months ago
Our children won't look back and question why. The poor children will die or grow up and know nothing but their current life and the rich children will continue to do what we've always done - turn on the TV and mind our own business and not the planet's and not our specie's.

The collective intelligence of the human race cannot overcome such daunting obstacles while being restrained to the current politico-economic system, I think.
If we don't do something to make governments around the world more in touch with the extant needs of the people, economies, and ecosystems with which we must cohabitate, the next few decades may be some of the most harrowing our species has ever experienced as one.

That book, "An essay on population" @11:25 had the all the "s" letters replaced by "f"....?
MetalSlugzMaster 8 months ago
@MetalSlugzMaster If you go back to that tim you specified, you can see the F's are not really crossed, they're just the f shape. Long s's (the sss sound, i.e. hiss) were written as F's without the crosses.

clutchninja 10 months ago
@clutchninja Thats true, but only if we continue in the current commercial system we have today. If we managed our resources better in combination with technology, then we could have over double what we have now, but commerce keeps restricting that in the name of profit.
Any thoughts?
