It's legal to skate! You just can't skate on sidewalks or in any of the best skating locations, can't wear headphones, and must skate in the middle of a busy street while obeying the traffic laws of cars 20 times your weight and size. Even so, you may still get a ticket if a police officer doesn't like you, and they don't, since only authoritarian assholes become officers. Also, it will cost you many hours of your life to challenge the authority of an unjust ticket. But it's totally legal!

there aren't enough law enforcement to waste time arresting someone for not paying a "skateboarding" violation. No one should ever pay these covetous fines, might make them rethink their policies of giving so much of the public dollar to those who pay nothing and freeload. It seems unfair that just because skateboarding is a newer mode of transport it is discriminated against. It is no more inherently dangerous that riding a bike, but people have a negative view of it so cops get to discriminate against boarders. Btw, I cant even stand up on a skateboard, so I am not saying this for myself.
