@thirdcreed to clarify, Coldplay copied it with Kraftwerk's permission. Lol, funny story-- Coldplay's lead singer got the permission in the form of a handwritten note with just a single "yes" from one of the Kraftwerk dudes. Those guys are out there.
@TRIAM1D That's awesome. I wonder if they take themselves that seriously, or if there's a bit of self-satirizing tongue-in-cheekness going on? I wonder that about abunch of artist come to think of it. I've always thought it was a good melody.
@thirdcreed I think it's just part of Kraftwerk's style. They're quirky by design and relatively aloof in public (I'm pretty sure you can count on one hand how many interviews they've done the entire time they've been together). On top of that, they often change the location of their studio, and at any given time nobody knows where it is...
@tellevarealooscurito I was saying Coldplay copied it from Kraftwerk. "it's an exact copy"<- it referring to the song I had just quoted. Arrogant people are annoying, and stupid people are frustrating but at the intersection of those two sets of people there's people like you. Lol "ignorance, ignorance everywhere" like your some kind of elite electronic music aficionado drolly opining about the sad state of the ignorant masses. ich kann diese kommentare nicht mehr lesen..dieses ,ich weis es besser als du und ich bin au viel klüger sogar mein land is besser als deins! merkt ihr den nich das wir alle menschen sind! wir sind alle gleich schwarz,weis,gelb,rot spielt keine rolle!(wären wir farbenblind wäre würde ich es besser finden! enspannt euch ,werdet freunde!bald is die zeit reif!
@armitageist One of Coldplay's influences is Kraftwerk. Coldplay asked Kraftwerk for permission to use the riff and Kraftwerk (being the cool band that they are) gave Coldplay permission to use the riff.
but if you want a really good one you'll have to learn to speak a foreign language...like, German for instance...that's right, all the really good ones come from over there...
@311Morry read the wikipedia article on kraftwerk, specifically the section about their notorious reclusivity. Coldplay asked them if they could use the melody, I believe
No. Of course there's nothing wrong with it... buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut... when one of the philosophies behind your music is that you utilize technology as an artistic component to your music, wouldn't it stand to reason that you may want to go back and remake some of your works with current technology if for nothing else to see the differences... from a constructural perspective...
Then again, I'm biased. "The Mix" was the first Kraftwerk album I heard when it came out.
@mrtrin I respect that completely, but I think since they are the godfathers of electronica, and this songs seems to try to be too much like what other people were putting out at the time, it doesn't make sense to me. It's like inventing something, someone is influenced by you and tweaks it over time, and then you decide to borrow from them... but then again, it's the postmodern era I suppose.
Not necessarily. Its not a huge deviation from the original.
Its just done with a more modern engineering and mixing process...
...as well as (obviously) new and better synths.
Then again, I don't know what else was out in 91. I was a kid in West Germany and I don't even remember listening to the radio... Just watching AFN, and listening to whatever music my parents had.
Oh those germans.

shit, didn't coldplay steal that melodic riff?
armitageist 9 months ago
@armitageist So they got in their De Lorean, went back thirty years, and stole it?

@armitageist
Yepp... They did. Splendid, isnt it? ^^
JesseDark101 9 months ago
@armitageist One of Coldplay's influences is Kraftwerk. Coldplay asked Kraftwerk for permission to use the riff and Kraftwerk (being the cool band that they are) gave Coldplay permission to use the riff.

but if you want a really good one you'll have to learn to speak a foreign language...like, German for instance...that's right, all the really good ones come from over there...

@311Morry read the wikipedia article on kraftwerk, specifically the section about their notorious reclusivity. Coldplay asked them if they could use the melody, I believe

I hate that they redid this song... there was nothing wrong with the original!
flm3454 10 months ago
@flm3454: You are right.
SteamFanHannover 10 months ago
@flm3454
"The Mix" was the first Kraftwerk album I heard when it came out.
mrtrin 10 months ago
@mrtrin I respect that completely, but I think since they are the godfathers of electronica, and this songs seems to try to be too much like what other people were putting out at the time, it doesn't make sense to me. It's like inventing something, someone is influenced by you and tweaks it over time, and then you decide to borrow from them... but then again, it's the postmodern era I suppose.
flm3454 10 months ago
@flm3454
Thank god they have decent taste in music.
:-\
