Maria's return game is at its BEST this year.

She's much faster too.

She hits her groundstrokes harder than 2006-2008 form, but the thing is, her accuracy is pretty low, which resulted to errors.

But 2001 was a GREAT YEAR FOR MARIA! She had 1 GS FINAL which sends a message that she can WIN a GRAND SLAM AGAIN!

though many said that this was a really bad match and i know that there were many unforced errors and double faults, looking back at the highlights i think it was really enjoyable.it was long and one couldn't tell who the winner would be.of course i wouldn't be saying all this if maria hadn't won

I'm sorry for writing a lot. :S But there's one thing that I want to tell. I feel in the finals she afraid of the chance a little bit that she can win that big titles that she have won, and that's why she can't play her best tennis. I'm really happy she can only meet in the final with Serena, but in the Quaters Kvitova won't be that easy. I hope she will win the USO because in this year she HAS TO win a GS and this is her last chance. And it would be great if she will be the No.1 in this year!:)

@AllofTennis For anyone in the top 5 to get to no.1 they need to hope wozi doesn't make it to the semis so she'll lose points from last year, that person needs to win the USO, and an additional tournament after that. So i think wozniacki is safe.

Sharapova has to play her best tennis in all the tournaments if she want to reach No.1, but I think she doesn't really care about the rangking. Uhm and Wozniacki has to save a lot of points in the USO and after the USO, doesn't she?

But what makes me the happiest that her footwork became really great!!! I mean she can reach a lot of balls that she - a few years ago - didn't try to reach!!! Her deffensive game also imrpoved a lot and this is one of the most important things beacuse of I think that she is a better a player than she ever was. It would be important that in the finals she could play that game what she played in the former rounds. She has not a good statics in the finals in the last couple of years...:S

TennisFan713 and kelvinpyaeko, you have really good thoughts about Maria's game I think... Yeah her returne game improved a lot and in my oppinion in this year she became a better player than she she ever was. Of course her game isn't perfect... Her serve isn't best yet, but I think she uses her mind more than ever, I mean in a lot of situation she doesn't want to win the point only uses her power, she's thinking more on the court and it makes her game so much better. :)

@wozniacki15 I personally think the only good part of sharapova 08' was the match against henin (really the only reason why 08' was memorable to everyone) and being able to play consistently through the year; until Wimbledon of course. Other than those two things it was a pretty basic year for masha in my opinion.

@kelvinpyaeko in my opinion 05-06 maria was her best, and 11' maria isn't as bad as people think... yes she serves handfuls of doubles but considering anyone other than maria and serena who serves 10+ dfs a match, they would've lost the match straight sets 1 and 3, not win matches 1 and 2.. If Maria gets her serve back, which she will eventually, it seems hodgstedt is more focused on her return game since most women have serving woes anyway, so he'll probs work on the serve for next year

@TennisFan713 that's very reasonable. maria has been returning better this year than she had done any of the year. and i think 05-06 maria was quite ferocious, considering how she rarely got herself under pressure back then. after AO 08 or a year before, she was kind of taken as a veteran, and i feel like she couldn't handle as much pressure now as she used to. and yes, i believe her serves will come back at some point
