This was THE music of the "70's" To this day...hearing these songs just transports me back to a simpler, less complicated, and innocent period of time.....priceless
played this my jr.year of high school with my band "the explosion" we just started the band a few months earlier.twins jerry and terry hix vocals and guitars.leeroy weddington on drums,me on bass and backing vocals and jack biliter on backing vocals, bass and keys..the girls that we got back then, scares me to think just how the big boys handle so much "snapdragon"
This was one of my 1st records. 45's. This version may sound different to some people, because it's a stereo remaster. I have the original 45 and it's mono and it's very loud and bright. Much more kick to it. This was a trick back in the mid 60's, to over drive the final master, resulting in a very loud sound, that worked best though those crappy transistor radios of the time.Listen to that 45 now, on modern equipment, it'd sound like a home made cassette where you had the levels in the red.
I am misunderstood. I was happy to find that you posted a video of the Grassroots. I am also a fan of this group and find nothing wrong with any of your postings. I grew up in this era listening to this music. I find the music and artist to be the originals. Please continue to post this great music
I am not one of the Grassroots. As you probably know from their well published history, they were a studio group until their songs took off and the record label responded by finding a group to fit the bill. after that that, they were quite legitimate and very successful. Unfortunately most groups of that era did not own the rights to their own music, it was owned by the record company, which could give any song to any artist they decided. The Beatles and Neil Diamond were victims of this system.
NOT THE ORIGINAL? I have no idea what this person is speaking of. Maybe it was recorded by another artist. This is the version I had on my album. Same arrangement and lead singer. Thank you for bringing it back since my copy is long lost amongst the 30+ move I made as a young man.
i also have not heard this version..the version i had when i was young, the guy singing sounded really desperate for this woman he loved...it was more passionate than this..i am not complaining or anything,am just saying this is not the one i had..
I don't know if it is original or not, but I agree this is a bad version compared to the version I am familiar with. Even so, it is still a good song.
It's a close copy, but not the original -- Grass Roots did this and remember hearing it in 1970 on the radio - was one of my favorite tunes and remember it well .. great tune! Great band.
@robgrillfan Rob Grill loves anal sex according to his ex boyfriend Gary Puckett who claims he used to sick it ib Robs ass without vasoline for nearly a decade.
Bad version of this song?? Are you kidding?? When you create something better then you can talk, until then click elsewhere cause no one cares what you think. These guys were brilliant and always will be.
The classics are the best music ever - even my grandson who is 11 likes them. I have him listen to all oldies with me so he can hear what I feel in love with and learn to appreciate all different eras of music. He even loves Barry White, Elvis and Charlie Daniels' "Devil Went Down to Georgia". My daughter grew up the same way. I hope the traditional will continue long after I'm gone. I'm leaving my album and 45 collection to my grandson someday. Ya'll have a "rockin & rollin" 4th of July!
@TXBluebird I inherited my mom's huge record collection years ago, TxBluebird, and have bought CD copies of almost every one ever since. I've always loved the 60s & 70s classics because they're what I grew up on!
@JarnBjorn72 Wow - how lucky you are!! What I would give to have all my old albums back. They got covered in water when my apartment flooded in '79 in Pearland, TX (near Houston) and got ruined. I was sick. I had some good stuff. Please take good care of your albums and when you have children, introduce them to the love of music thru your mom's collection. Start them out listening when they are young, have fun & sing along with them. It's the best part of having children.
Music from the late 1960s has a great sense of passion and urgency to it. By comparison, today's music is a bland array of digitally-enhanced voices and brain-numbing bass lines. Maybe if they reinstated the draft today's generation would get serious about music.
This is not the original. It's re-recorded. Can't you hear how old Rob's voice sounds in that? He and Dennis re-recorded their greatest hits in 77 or 78? Dunno what he did in the meantime that his voice changed that much.
You can listen to the original song here ww. youtube . com / watch?v=tsuoPbyWrm0
@Basie369 The Grass Roots did the original. But this particular recording is not "the" hit version they released to the top of the radio charts. The radio version was much better than this one.
@FireflyFreak88 -- I don't think that's Creed -- he left the group in '69, and that doesn't really look like him. However, you can see Creed Bratton on their Midnight Confessions video, which is on the list of Related Videos to the right.
