Apparently, her actual, real-life friends hold nowhere near as much value as this Heath Ledger, who she would have no chance of ever meeting, dead or not.
I love how the first one, which was genuinely depressing and actually justified, was followed by the second one, which was some retard crying over a video game.
Not all TVT users are this horrifying, I can assure you. Some of them are even normal people. Generally speaking, anyone who uses the term "this troper" is sending out a giant red warning sign.
@gatotsu2501 Probably not, but the majority surely presents itself that way. I feel like if I were to have a "normal" real-life conversation with most of these tropers they would start freaking the fuck out, pull out a pen, stab me in the goddamn throat and run. :\
That first one was sad, I hope the brother's okay. And the last one upset me a bit, too. While being considered a BSOD is arguable, I still feel bad for that guy. It sucks when everyone is laughing at you for something you find all too serious.
"This troper sank into a depression for months when there was a power outage during a marathon of Firefly :'C Sure, you may say "I sank into one when a friend died" or "when my parents divorced or lost their job" BUT YOU DON'T KNOW MY PAIN" What the shit is this fuck? Sheeit, even I have Asperger's and even though I might feel upset over some bullshit thing every now and then but I'm not pathetic enough to share it with the world like these assclowns. But I hope the first one's bro is okay now
What's this? I used the wrong item in a video game. I didn't mean to do that! Now I'll just have to stare at the game like a dead fish for hours and even days at a time.
I...just...don't believe what happened. Oh dear...God...
Wow, and I thought my dad dying was the worst thing that could ever happen to me. This totally brings it into perspective. I mean, spilling ink? You poor baby, you'll be in therapy for the rest of your life.
I like how people think they're heroes even thought they're not heroes but self-important assholes who did nothing to contribute to society aside from participating in the legacy of WTF that is the This Troper section of TV Tropes as a warning to the people who read this to NOT be like the idiots who post that kind of crap.
@calvinjluther I don't that much about him, but he's some sort of eldritch abomination known as "The Almighty Idiot". Basically a destructive force of nature that just kills everything.
I've met one; count 'em, one person on TvTropes I would consider a hero. He's in the Air Force, but he'd never make an entry on Heroic BSOD because he's not a self-important faggot with daddy issues.
I used to think I was a hero in a small, stupid way for breaking up a dog fight or helping out a cancer-ravaged neighbor in a fallen-can't-get-up situation, but then I ran into these tales of netizens valiantly misreading Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and screaming when people touch them. I'm clearly a fraud. :(
There's this magazine I subscribed to it since I was 7 years old, and they stopped publishing it a few months ago. I was upset, and all, but my reaction basically amounted to "Dang, that's too bad." Same thing when Toonami went off the air - I was a little bummed and then I moved on. I've got problems besides my favorite programming block being gone, you know?
I REALLY hope these guys are exaggerating, but I still don't get how this stuff can matter that much to anyone.
@EponymousKid Exaggeration seems to be the way of Troper Tales. It's like everyone feels the need to top someone else's story with a "oh yeah! Well guess what happened to me?" entry of their own.
Although there are many entries in Troper Tales that make me wonder why the hell anyone would admit to them.
Sort of. The real life equivilant can be PTSD, an acute stress reaction, depression...something along those lines. The examples on the main page list things like characters witnessing someone close to them dying (especially if it was indirectly their fault), discovering a shocking revelation about someone in their family that somehow ties them into it, or being placed in a situation where they have to compromise their morals. There are more, but those are the main ones.
However, the tropers here have a skewered view on what a BSOD actually is. The point was underlined perfectly in the beginning when it jumped from "I discovered my brother was cutting himself" to "I used the wrong seed in my Pokemon game". Notice the difference? Or thinking spilling ink on your manga is as traumatic as your friend dying.
@lera980 I still don't think "Mentally Shutting Down" is the best response to a problem, tropers always seem to be so helpless, when they really don't know how to handle a problem that has had an episode of Haruko No Kanuna Generic Anime What-The-Fuck, you know what i'm saying?
I love the vast difference between these. You have some people who were put into horrible depressions by the loss of loved ones and horrible accidents, and then you have some random kid who lost his save game in Pokemon and honestly feels that his loss is equal. I mean, maybe I should worry for the people that fall in line with the latter example, but I just find it too damn pathetic and therefore hilarious.
I can understand having a genuine BSOD over the death of a friend, but seriously thinking that's on par with spilling ink on your manga is...beyond any words of fury I could describe. There is, however, one word that can be used to sum up the other ones, ESPECIALLY the last one: Wangst (and ironically, there is now a Troper Tales section for THAT).
Why is there a Troper Tales page for Heroic BSOD? No one that posts on TV Tropes is a hero, and none of them are going to recognize the dichotomy between a huge revelation or dramatic event that shakes them to their core and causes them to almost literally shut down, and a moment in their life when they were a little bit upset over some mostly inconsequential event.
There is no way for this page to lead to anything other than sighs and red hand-shaped marks on foreheads.
These people are not, in any sense of the word, heroes. These self-important and privileged manchildren are not fighting injustice, saving lives or suffering some unbearable plight. Only in the small, self-delusional stories they have made up in their heads to give importance to their boring, lonely and miserable existence, are they heroes.
@Skinnyoompalumpa@nhonho23 Yeah, I love how even on the page it's RIGHT after one another.
