Sort of. The real life equivilant can be PTSD, an acute stress reaction, depression...something along those lines. The examples on the main page list things like characters witnessing someone close to them dying (especially if it was indirectly their fault), discovering a shocking revelation about someone in their family that somehow ties them into it, or being placed in a situation where they have to compromise their morals. There are more, but those are the main ones.

The point was underlined perfectly in the beginning when it jumped from "I discovered my brother was cutting himself" to "I used the wrong seed in my Pokemon game". Notice the difference? You have some people who were put into horrible depressions by the loss of loved ones and horrible accidents, and then you have some random kid who lost his save game in Pokemon and honestly feels that his loss is equal. Why is there a Troper Tales page for Heroic BSOD? No one that posts on TV Tropes is a hero, and none of them are going to recognize the dichotomy between a huge revelation or dramatic event that shakes them to their core and causes them to almost literally shut down, and a moment in their life when they were a little bit upset over some mostly inconsequential event.

There is no way for this page to lead to anything other than sighs and red hand-shaped marks on foreheads.
