  • If Miles Davis played hardcore it would sound just like this

  • this is one of the best songs i ever heard, and gorglazon is the very best user name ever

  • Absolute masterpiece. Converge's my favorite. \m/

  • Converge, hardcore in its finest.

  • there are...LYRICS?!

  • This album has such great potential and ambitions.

You might want to bang your head against the wall, when you find that you wasted your time discussing the genrer of this band, instead of listening to their beautiful work

  • The ending of this song and Jane Doe just destroy me.

  • @Xaxaar Dude, right? I almost break down listening to this.

  • classic

  • this band is gnar everyone needs to stfu

  • this sounds like someone tore off a guy's limbs and put them in a blender.

  • Great song

  • Writes such great lyrics.

  • Yeah this isn't screamo. Bands like Silverstein are (which they actually have some good music in my opinion)

  • @limoguy333

    Silverstien is post hardcore bro.

  • @attack30sowns ahhh whatever, they still have a lot of screamo elements to their sound

  • when I think of screamo I think the blood brothers, the locust, circle takes the square, since by man, orchid, I can see how this might fit though, but I think its got more in common with grind.

  • My favorite converge song, epic

  • Comment removed

  • There's no point in getting into ridiculously specific genres, espescially with a band like converge, it's hardcore. we can argue about outside influences from thrash, sludge, scream-o, grindcore, noise-core all day but it will get us nowhere. Just enjoy the music.

  • why not just say its good music like fuck whats with you guys

  • AWESOME!

  • The last minute or so of this song, almost moves me to tears, it's so poignant and emotive, you can hear the pain in Jake's voice, absolutely devastating.

  • Let's say it's just a blend from hardcore punk and extreme metal with a grain of math, lol.

  • It's Converge-core.

  • all of you are wrong about this band's genre. converge is absolute chaos. thats it.

  • @convergeme220

And we fucking love every second of it \m/ \m/

  • I love being a drummer fuck yes

  • I love the first 2 seconds. OW!!

  • You guys are fucking retarded and genre obsessed. MATH-CORE HARD-CORE GRIND-EMO SLUDGE-PROG WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK!!!! Eat shit out of your moms twat.

  • Ok care to explain how the argument was flawed. Also how do I not understand this music. Don't just make abstract statements without explanation. I listen to a much wider variety of music than what I do on youtube. As for those quotes I wasn't trolling. Crunkcore is in fact retarded. Please dont try and say it isn't after you just insulted my music take. Also I was refering solely to modern "scene bands" with my second comment. Not bands like Mineral or Jawbreaker. Im actually 27.

  • I misinterpreted your Christian band comment, sorry about that.

You were engaging in a flawed argument about the existence of God on a bands youtube video. You have terrible taste in music and don't have a proper understanding of music or of the scene which this style of music exists.

    "Crunkcore is fucking retarded"

"emos dress like idiots but they make great music."

Stop being a fucking troll and go back to being a 13 year old, go finger some girls at a party or something.

  • @Phobixa And how is fingering girls even vaguely connected to anything either of us has mentioned.

  • Youtube video comments never fail to amuse. Calling Converge mathcore is pretty much pigeonholing them into some weird subgenre that people have created so that bands such as Botch, Coalesce and Cave In don't get grouped with bands like August Burns Red. This song in particular has clear influences from hardcore, metal and Amrep style noise rock. Being one of their more spazzy songs it also shares characteristics with screamo/skramz, great work with the likes you 30 fuckwits.

  • @Phobixa You complain about subgenres then go on to mention a range of subgenres which Converge fits into. Hmm?

  • @alexmonro83 I started writing a logical response and then saw your series of comments on a For Today video. There is no hope for you.

  • @Phobixa So me being a Christian means you cant think of logical responses? That makes no sense. Also why do all of you hate filled, prejudiced, close minded atheists keep looking up a band whose lyrics are so blatantly Christian?

  • @Phobixa I know Converge aren't Christian. I was refering to For Today. And if you don't care if I'm Christian then I'd like to know your problem with my comments under the For Today video.

  • @alexmonro83 HAHAHAHAHAHAHH. You must be trolling. I couldn't care less if you are Christian and Converge are not a Christian band.

  • @alexmonro83 You also posted on an Asking Alexandria video. WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?

  • @necrocoprophilia I don't know what that means?

  • @necrocoprophilia Go back and actually read my comments again. You have clearly failed in basic reading comphrension. I said that Converge is hardcore but their specific subgenre of hardcore is mathcore. Because hardcore does in fact cover several subgenres whether you like it or not. Mathcore, deathcore, screamo etc are not just random words I made up for fun. They are established sub genres of hardcore. I don't see why it's so difficult to understand

  • @alexmonro83 Actually sir, this is PolynomaticArithomocore merged with the sub-sub-genre of AllyMotraticacore. But I do enjoy the jouleocratacore influence in this song. So, what I'm saying is, this is basically a Dodecahedrocore band.

  • @TheBagelBrotherz

    dude...i love you

  • @TheBagelBrotherz Making fun of me doesn't actually change the fact that I'm right. Sub genres of hardcore do exist. Fuck it's like trying to explain something to three year olds.

  • @alexmonro83 Okay, how about I just say "Nobody cares, move on."?

  • @TheBagelBrotherz Well clearly they do care as I'm still getting sent replies 1 month after my initial comment. But you're right that it's time to move on.

  • dude this is some sick golfcore man i fuckin love polyrhythmic bearded golfcore omg

  • It's all Hardcore to meeeee! (Minor threat ofcourse being first wave hardcore...)

  • this is way more mathcore! pissed off mathcore!!

  • this is hardcore. simple

  • you actually can't say this is mathcore, it has mathcore but i would never put converge as a band in the mathcore category, much more likely metalcore or hardcore on their earlier records.

  • why do hardcore, metalcore, deathcore, grindcore, mathcore, screamo, emo, post hardcore and death metal always seemed to get confused with each other on Youtube. I mean its actually very easy to tell which band fits which genre if you're not retardedly stupid. Converge is mathcore by the way.

  • @alexmonro83

*cough* *cough* i've said it about a million times already...i know -.- i'm just too lazy to get myself to go through every vid and correct it :3

  • @alexmonro83 Oh come on... Mathcore? Soon there will be more stupid genres. Hardcore is hardcore, it can vary from band to band but it still is HC

  • @Squeglee I disagree because minor threat, converge, circle takes the square, asking alexandria and hatebreed have clear differences but all fall under the hardcore banner. Therefore I consider hardcore more of broad category covering a range of subgenres (of which mathcore is one) rather than a specfic subgenre by itself. I still consider Converge hardcore but I consider them mathcore rather than hardcore punk, deathcore or post hardcore.

  • @alexmonro83 Exactly. "Hardcore" is an umbrella term, like "extreme metal".

  • @alexmonro83 This band is like grindcore meets mathcore.... dillinger escape plan meets agoraphobic nosebleed.

  • @evilvon Yes! Somebody else understands the concept of subgenres. I'm not hugely familiar with grindcore but I'll have to start looking into it.

  • @alexmonro83 Because genres are entirely and completely debatable. You could argue that this is hardcore and it would make perfect sense.

  • @lolh4x I agree that its hardcore. As I said mathcore is simply a subgenre of hardcore. I made my initial comment because someone claimed this band is screamo. Which they aren't

  • @alexmonro83 if there is one thing I hate in this world its genre Nazis. Nobody gives a shit.

  • @sepreoth222 Well if you glance at the comments a lot of people do give a shit. Also genres do in fact exist and different bands fit into different genres. If that some how upsets you well thats your problem.

  • @alexmonro83 who cares what label you put on it

  • @1dotonly Umm I guess because labels are used to categorise things that share common features. This applies not just to music but life in general. Its pretty much basic emglish comprehension. In this case the subgenre of mathcore contains similar bands. So if someone knows what mathcore is and they hear Converge is mathcore they will look up Converge (if they like mathcore). If you just say "hey Converge is a great band" that really doesn't give any info on what converge sounds like.

  • @1dotonly Yes I'm aware I just typed Emglish instead of English. Damn typos.

  • @alexmonro83 Would you kindly, shut the fuck up?

  • @FreddyMercurysAIDS No I will kindly not.

  • @alexmonro83

Modern mathcore isn't like Converge, same like modern metalcore isn't like "metallic hardcore" of old, which just sounded like hardcore punk crossed with metal, and not a total spamfest of breakdowns.

  • @SaturnineXTS Ok I'm aware of the difference between metallic hardcore and metalcore but could recommend some modern mathcore bands to check out?

  • @alexmonro83

Modern mathcore? Veil of Maya. They're progressive deathcore, but go apeshit crazy with polyrhythms and metrum breaking. A bit older mathcore? Botch. They're the best fucking mathcore band ever, much more mathy than Converge, actually. Meshuggah could be recommended as well, but they're math metal without hardcore flavors. Oh, and maybe The Dillinger Escape Plan. I'm not that deep into mathcore so no more recs, sorry : (

  • @SaturnineXTS Cheers for the info :)

  • @SaturnineXTS HELL YEAh! Botch "we are the Romans" is hands down one of the best albums ever created.

Also "Poison the well - opposite of December" not sure if mathcore but it's really similar to Botch and converge.

  • @SaturnineXTS ilike spam....and i like breakdowns...but whats your point?

  • @Rkiser0592

My point is that back then you could feel where the "hardcore" came from. Today it's just half-assed metal with teenager lyrics and lots of breakdown abuse. Nothing hardcore about that. And it annoys the metalheads as well as punks.

  • best mathcore band EVER! CONVERGE FTW!!

  • This might actually be the heaviest thing I've ever heard

  • Screamo isn't an actual genre. It shows how much you know about music: very little. It's hardcore/mathcore.

  • I love how when you hear this band its so fucking in your face and violent through most of the song and then you find a part in the song that sounds a little bit catchy and hypnotizing.

  • This fucking song rules.

  • Yeah, modern screamo is a million years away from original screamo.

  • Not gonna lie, I don't hear *any* of those lyrics in this. Not even remotely, except the word Thaw obviously.

    Great song though

  • am i the only who has ever felt like he was in a converge song? We as humans should be able to relate in some ways to chaos and anger

  • theres nothing left to do at the end of our contempt but to thaw. brilliant song showing the delicate side of jacob, well kind of.

  • The only thing vaguely "screamo" about this is the vocals, real screamo like Portraits of past, Mohinder, etc. has completley different instrumentals, but fuck genres, great band and song

  • "if you knew anything about real screamo and how it started you might understand how it got tagged as such. Converge isnt screamo in any sense but thats only half the point. Check out bands like Orchid, pg.99, and Saetia" i totally agree

  • 3:30

  • Listen to the song, shut the fuck up about the genre. Honestly is it really that big of a deal?

  • omvg

  • wow! nothing wrong w this song at all! FUCKING love this shit!

  • Epic song.

  • @michaelgavinet Or maybe you had complete trash in your ears and finally got it out.

  • My utopia: The ending of this song played for all eternity, escalating into a never-ending climax with me floating in a pitch dark vacuum, completely and utterly alone.

  • My favorite song off of this album. My favorite album opver all is petitioning the empty sky. I have the original pressing, album cover and all. I'm getting You Fail Me tattooed on my collar bone... Maybe there are so many song titles/ lyrics over all that I want on my collar bone. haha

  • this gives me wood

  • yeah this is the very best album from converge...all albums are good..but this is the shit harder faster and bader....you have to listen to the jane doe demos..

  • hands down best converge album. jane doe this shit

  • Converge. Beast.

XVX for life, R.A.S.H. 'til death.

  • This is a pretty good song & stuff. I'd say coupled w/ the two phoenix's its the best part of Jane doe.

  • How'd this get tagged as screamo? screamo is bullshit

  • I agree. Nothing disgusts me more than seeing emo kids going down the hallway and think they are soooooo cool when they "I listen to screamo"

  • @SychoToniX if you knew anything about real screamo and how it started you might understand how it got tagged as such. Converge isnt screamo in any sense but thats only half the point. Check out bands like Orchid, pg.99, and Saetia

  • @skatepunkoi "screamo" isn't even a genre, though. emo is a genre. orchid, pg.99, and saetia are all emo bands. people say the term screamo differentiates between first wave (rites, indian summer, navio forge) and those bands. but orchid are as much of a powerviolence band as they are an emo band, and saetia are almost indie-emo, so screamo doesn't work as a catch-all there either. besides, screamo is the stupidest word ever. just look at it. "SCREAMO."

  • @paurmaas Screamo mate - Alexisonfire

  • @DillingerEscapeMan alexisonfire were a post-hardcore band, not a 'screamo' band.

  • @paurmaas No one cares about your explanation or how much you think you know about music... As for your reference "Orchid, pg. 99"; what makes them the authority on musical classification? I, for one, don't believe that Emo is a genre of music. You may, but it was a style of life and dress far before the musical scene came about. I'm not Emo but I know that they were around far before they created their own shitty attempt at a sub-genre of metal/pop-punk fusion.

  • @obsidiandeatheater I like punk music but this song is fun... it's like the Bad Brains of grindcore-ish stuff.

  • @obsidiandeatheater Emo (emotive hardcore) was created in 80's by bands like Embrace and back then there was no "emo fashion". Their clothes were just normal. In late 90's screamo was created and still is a part of hardcore scene. What you're talking about are those shiny pink pussies who came out of nowhere and started calling themselves emo in MTV shows.

  • @SychoToniX its not bullshit. you bullcrap

  • @SychoToniX kurt ballou recorded orchid, and they were a 'screamo' band. i think maybe you don't know much about screamo

  • @SychoToniX totally fkin agree, screamo is emo bullshit.. this is fkin aggresive

  • @SychoToniX Listen to Gospel's Golden Dawn and dare to say that again, when it comes doen to it Converge has a lot of similar elements as Screamo, real Screamo that is and not your scene crap that is loitered with alternative and pop elements

  • @SychoToniX first, do you know what screamo is?

  • @SychoToniX if it weren't as heavy, it would be screamo

  • @SychoToniX

screamo like touche amore and la dispute is amazing.

What you are aiming at are the shity scene screamo bands.

Converge has most defenitly some roots into the screamo genre!

  • Comment removed

  • @tijnmans ehh i would say they have more roots in grindcore vocalwise

  • @tijnmans you are smart. Lol most people don't understand that REAL screamo is actually pretty decent when they think screamo they think Alesana or something gah..~facepalm~ Lol

  • @PureAndPlastic Pg. 99

  • @ArnBucketeer haha yup they're coolies :3

  • @SychoToniX Shows how much you know. There's a bunch of good screamo. I'd be willing to bet you don't even know what it is.

  • it's SO funny to read what u mortal say .... pfhahahaha

  • Its refreshing to hear proof that true originality and creativity haven't become obsolete terms in music

  • Fucking disgusting song.

    Love it.

  • Legends

  • Lyrics are weird on this song, although its easily the best song on the album.

  • they seem pretty straight forward to me

  • those are obviously not the right words, or at least they are not in order

  • none of the lyrics match up to the album properly haha

but theyre the same lyrics that get posted up everywhere else

  • that's my only problem with this band. i can't understand what they're saying! otherwise i'd headbang to this constantly.

    i can't follow along >(

  • You don't really need to hear the lyrics IMO.

Jacob's voice is just another instrument on this album, adding to the atmosphere and feeling.

What Jacob's saying doesn't matter, it's how he says it.

  • nice argument

    but no?

If music bears no truth beneath, it doesnt incite me to believe ... and prove

  • I don't see how those vocals don't bear enough truth to last a generation ALONE.

I mean, just listen to those fucking vocals man.

Im not saying his lyrics DON'T matter at all, but I think there's only so far words can take you before you get to that point where you can't control yourself any more, and you can't help but screech them at the top of your voice. That's what Jacob Bannon's vocals are about for me. It's not the words themselves, but that he means what he's saying, whatever it may be.

  • lyrics are the primary way that musicians convey the messages in their songs. so what he says does matter! even though the inflection/distortion he uses can help to change the literal message, it is still not as important as what is being said or what is not being said in the lyrics of the song. ....see lyscan's comment....

  • man I want this album so bad

  • Buy it ^^. I love it. And Thaw is one of the best songs off Jane Doe.

  • dam right, dam right
