I like most footage of horses on here but this has to be the most touching and well thought out video ive seen, i just hope i can do one to be proud of. So beautiful. thankyou..... because i feel so privaleged to watch, see, go to see these amazing equines...
There is a reason I hate the horse racing industry. Many of these horses started as graceful creatures bred to have slim legs that are not made for a horses weight in an extended stride. There hearts pushed to excessive limits. Used for money they all were. Riding horse was started as transportation and has become what it is today. I wish people still could see it in their hearts that these beautiful creatures were born to run free. This is the respect that the Jockeys had but not the owners.
@cckat05@cckat05 I am sad to say I disagree with you a lot. My reason is that these are equines that where originally built to run.... when they run they use ove 90% of there oxygen unlike us lazy humans.... Tho when an accident happens unfortunately they were not built to use 3 legs because of there physical appearance... these are half ton animals that are designed by him up there to run and yes to run free... The trainers, owners, jockeys all have the same part to play
@WHISKARDI I use up that much too because I'm not lazy. Not everyone is lazy. I'm sorry but I don't see your point still. They weren't "made to run" they were made to live. Running is an adaptation to protect them from predators.
@cckat05 they, the trainers, owners, jockeys love these and there equines... its ofcourse a buisness like almost everything on this planet and i absolutely love and feel so privaleged to be able to see these animals in full flight.. Do you know who Eclipse is, do you know when he was born, do you know when he first raced... do you know what yr that was.... racing isnt new it is hundreds of yrs old. we all have to earn money. It is a beautiful sport and the closest we will get to an animal
@WHISKARDI No I don't know who Eclipse is no I don't know when he first paced and no I don't what year that was. I know racing has been around for hundreds of years and like I said, it has become what it is today. And horses weren't made to be a business just like everything else. I'm 16 and I may be young but I have an idea in my head thought through very thoroughly that would have made this world so much better. And none of these horses would have raced to death.
@cckat05 Ok... so I have read your point of view. So firstly horses were not ....( by the way weren't is an inproper word) made a buisness..... what!! they are.... it is called horse racing... something else you said the horses raced to death...... ofcourse I have noticed in races where I have also thought 'wow that horse has raced to much this season already'....but the word 'death' is a word you as a 16yr ld should seek carefully to use. We all have ideas on how to make it a better world
@cckat05 Unfortunately I feel that people do not think thouroughly enough about anything today and no offence but you have no true knowledge or understanding of this beautiful equine... Another point is that you or any human will never use 90% of oxygen in your body because its scientifically imppossible lol.... Horse are flight animals and im guessing you know what that term means.... there are different breeds of horses.. from shire to arabian...
@WHISKARDI And before and after I rode her I did my best to keep her away from all the gravel because I know that rocks get lodged in the hooves and shoes and can cripple a horse. I know enough about horses and maybe you just know more. But it's not about what we know as people but what we know as beings of this world. And yes horses were made into business between the races, jumping, and breeding, owners make millions. And I just plain don't like it. I'm sorry if that offends you.
@cckat05 the thouroughbred has always had as you call it 'skinny legs'... but do you know what there legs are madwe up of. My point to you is please do not take offence to this but you have very little understanding of this equine athlete that are born to run whether its in a field or a racetrack
@WHISKARDI No I'm not a genius about horses nor spelling and "proper" language. I'm southern so ain't is in my vocabulary. But thoroughbred have some of the most breakable legs of all horses, them and Arabians. Both of which I love to just watch frolicking in a field with tall grass and bugs. I rode a mix bred a while back who had extremely thick legs for a horse her size but she was one of the most exhilarating to ride. I had to keep her high spirit under control because she is a natural jumper
@cckat05 couple more points..... not so long ago henry cecil was knighted....... he is amazing. He is a horse trainer... he absolutely lives his life around these equines..... can you imagine breeding a horse, breaking it in and preparing him or her for their first race... magic moment..... I have had the upmost privelage of meeting Frankel and the man himself..Like I said im not trying to be against you but please get some knowledge first.knowledge can only come from living not just reading
@WHISKARDI Like I said, I'm 16 and I still have so much to learn about this world. And I death is honestly not a harsh term. I have been around it since I was 7 and yes it is a despairing idea but it is a common thing that happens. Yes I do know that thoroughbred's legs are small bone a lots of muscle and tendons. I have also been around horses since I was three and have had the privileged of riding many different horses.
@cckat05 couple more points..... not so long ago henry cecil was knighted....... he is amazing. The sad thing is these horses didn't get to live to their full potential and only reached the age of 3 and 4. I understand racing is a sport just like any other but you have to admit it is sad to see great athletes go down at the age of 3 trying their best.
Although they loved to run... it's a shame that only a minority of realy succecful race horses can retire without injuries... seems to me as the best allways have to be put down because of broken bones... i know it's a biased thing and i neither am sure what to think about it...
I will never forget the day that i was watching the races as i would any other day, only that day Barbaro was put down, Then Ruffian, then Eight Belles. This video made me cry so much! Such a beautiful video

People say that they hate racing because of it. Its sad when horse die during a distance. But.... They want to run. Running is meaning of those horses lives....
Its 2 years, i think, when during one of the pre races of Big Pardubice race a horse have died because his heard could not take the exhaustion after the race, he sprinted forward, his rider tried to stop him, but was unable to hold him back...
The horses just want to run.. i love the racing because the spirit you can feel when you watch.
Gorgeous George was one of my favourite racehorses ever :'( I remember that he covered 47 mares and only one had a foal!
P.S Horseracing is not cruel. What do horses love more than galloping their very fastest in competition with their friends, like they do in the wild? Nothing, that's what.
I know they loved to run and everything...but I still feel like they were pushed too hard...most racehorses I feel like are, esp the younger ones pushed too quickly too......
amazing video, put me in tears. To the whole race dispute: what most people dont understand is that these horses loved to run. If they didnt they wouldnt have been as fast, gone as far and ran as hard as they did. People dont realize this until they have ridden a horse who does. Its sad to see them go at such a young age, but in the short years they lived they were pamperd, taken with great care and they died doing something they loved. RIP to all the TB who gave their lives to what they loved.
It is sad that so many horses die early in the racing industry. The racing people just want money and they race the young ones early if the have good bloodlines etc. But think of all the horses who are still alive today and will go on as legends untuil they do pass. I don't know what i would do without my horse, she has given me everything she had got. So just keep on smiling cause this is life :)
Almost all these horses died at the age of around three. A horse has not completed skeletal development until they are five. Before this age they should not be trained or worked hard. No wonder so many racehorses break down - they are started when they are barely past being yearlings. The race horse industry can only call itself humane once it stops racing babies and only allows horses five years or older in competition.
I have an ex-racer and he is 14 now he loves to run and never stops. they run because that's what they love to do. some racers never see the track because they don't want to. it's the same with jumpers.
Why? Because horses die. Just as many horses die in other equine sports. But you don't hear about it because those other sports aren't as published as horse racing.

some of these horses I never heard off! I only heard of Eight Belles, and I found out about Barbaro later. I'm sure I heard of Go For wand, & Ruffian. They shoud all be breyers! Where did you get the clips.
dude. thats fucking sad. but u should add theodor oconner/teddy the worlds cutest eventing pony. he got hurt on a freaking trail ride. i event and every time i go and jump a 3' fence u never know... u can only hope u and ur horse are prepared for it and u did the right thing...
I think horses shouldn't race until they are three. The Triple Crown races should be a four year old campaign. That would give the horses more time to grow up, as well as for more training.
First off Don't Bag On Racing Cause Of SOme OF The Ignorant Trainers Who Pump There Horses With Seroids It's Not Racings Fault SO Think It Dumb Trainers + Owners NOT Racing
I don't follow American racing is it just me or are most of those horses inujured when racing in America In England horses barely ever fall when flat racing , I hate to sound like i'm having a go at American racing but that's how this vid certainly shows it Especially in the case of George Washington who I believe was an Adrian O'briene horse? It's just funny how he got hurt whilst in America I don't want to start an argument just based on this vid that's how it appears to me.
No, it's not just you... I moved to America from the UK a year ago and I still can't believe how many American horses get injured. I, also, am not trying to insult Americans. I don't know if it's the way they are prepared and the... caution? the owners take, but I don't think it's the age. I still race, and sometimes I race 3 year-olds. But they where galloping/coronet boots, wraps, we usually wrap their tail, and warm them up before racing/breezing them. I just think it's how they're perpared.
did anyone else notice how many horses died in the breeders cup?surly after that many they should take some precations, and most of those horses were only babies 3 or 4 year olds,i no they get broken at 2 when racing but to die that young is awful i no it is a tough business and it is hard to get them to recover as they are always moving and on their feet so they have to be put down but still.and i do agree that less horses fall in england than they do in america and thats going over the hedges.
Just wondering... How many people that have posted a comment have ever raced/breezed/trained a racehorse? I've been riding for 12 years now, and ridden racehorses for 9, and only 1 of horses I've helped with has had to been put down from a racing injury. I know it's horrible to see a horse get injured, but is it fairly unusual if they've been trained carefully. Personally, I feel that falls concerning steeplechasing and XC usually end up more tragic. Lol, thanks for reading my novel!
yeh you would think that cross country would end badly. but it doesnt seem to. i think racing is great, i mean its what a horse does naturally; run, but not when they are pushed so much they have heart-attacks or break legs. i dont agree with steeple chace.
I've seen so many bad cross-country accidents, I barely ride XC anymore.... As for steeplechase, its usually a lot more dangerous than racing. Not only do you have 10-25 horses in close contact galloping around the track, they have to jump around 5' every 10 yards. If one falls its like dominoes for every horse behind it. Even though I love steeplechase, I stopped competing after my cousin horse was put down from an accident it barely had anything to do with.
they race these guys waaaay before theyre developed. I just read this huge article about how racing them this young buts so much stress on there legs and back, when theyre bones arent fully developed.
if they want good results they should wait until the horses are around 6 to race them. they say 6 is when a horse fully matures.
If you're referring to racing crops, it usually doesn't hurt the horse that much. The only semi-painful crop is the hunting whip, but normal crops/whips usually hurt the horses just about as much as a human slapping it on its flank. If the horse is hit on the face... that's different story, but a crop/whip to the flank usually doesn't hurt.
no offence Anchored4 but they r starting these horses out way to young they are lunging them before their knees r grown all the way. we are breeding for speed and not strength but tht isn't the problem speed has nothing to do with race horses careers ending so soon/tragecally its the way they r being trained and the age in which they r starting out. thts my opinion..........whether u agree or disagree we r both right and both probably wrong.
im crying right now :_(.I remember the time me and my friend were watching the Kentucky Derby ad i betted on Eight belles and She bidded on Big Brown and after the race ended i looked at the screen and it had Eight Belles lying there and that one guy said "They emediatly euthinized her" I started crying to bad and all i could think about the night was what he said. She has a special place in my heart and i will miss her. R.I.P. Eight Belles you are loved!
I was at a race in Tulsa and witnessed and horse named Mr. Yawlene break down coming around the turn to the home stretch. He had to be put down immediately, I made me very sad and made me re-examine just how I felt about horse racing. Is it really worth it?
That's the saddest video I've ever seen...

can run when they want to, their free, their not forced so i dont get how someone can be ok with that. racing is wasting beautiful horses !!

no actually the ones that arent owned by some of the few cruel owners get rehomed and most find success in other disciplines

This vidoe almost made me cry!
some of these horses I never heard off! I only heard of Eight Belles, and I found out about Barbaro later. I'm sure I heard of Go For wand, & Ruffian. They shoud all be breyers! Where did you get the clips.
R.I.P to all of the deeseased racehorses.
5 STARS!!!!
theflackclan 2 years ago
Ruffian is a breyer
Kedgirl 2 years ago
I know, but at least Eight Belles should be one too!
theflackclan 2 years ago
That is true.
Kedgirl 2 years ago
usually most horses reach or pass thier peak at 3 going on 4. So thats one reason why they don't race them starting at age 6.
ashado19 2 years ago
did she even add Ruffian?
SailaCullen101 2 years ago
Yes Ruffian is in this video
Anchored4 2 years ago
@SailaCullen101 yes she was the last horse in the video i believe

dude. thats fucking sad. but u should add theodor oconner/teddy the worlds cutest eventing pony. he got hurt on a freaking trail ride. i event and every time i go and jump a 3' fence u never know... u can only hope u and ur horse are prepared for it and u did the right thing...
squish329 2 years ago
I think horses shouldn't race until they are three. The Triple Crown races should be a four year old campaign. That would give the horses more time to grow up, as well as for more training.

First off Don't Bag On Racing Cause Of SOme OF The Ignorant Trainers Who Pump There Horses With Seroids It's Not Racings Fault SO Think It Dumb Trainers + Owners NOT Racing
HorseEventer213 2 years ago
im not saying racing is a terrible sport but all these horses had a very short life and without racing could have lived a lot longer : (

I just think it's how they're perpared.

its both how old and how thay are perpared

did anyone else notice how many horses died in the breeders cup?surly after that many they should take some precations, and most of those horses were only babies 3 or 4 year olds,i no they get broken at 2 when racing but to die that young is awful i no it is a tough business and it is hard to get them to recover as they are always moving and on their feet so they have to be put down but still.and i do agree that less horses fall in england than they do in america and thats going over the hedges.

BubblesAreBeast 2 years ago
yeh you would think that cross country would end badly. but it doesnt seem to. i think racing is great, i mean its what a horse does naturally; run, but not when they are pushed so much they have heart-attacks or break legs. i dont agree with steeple chace.
magicenchantment 2 years ago
I've seen so many bad cross-country accidents, I barely ride XC anymore.... As for steeplechase, its usually a lot more dangerous than racing. Not only do you have 10-25 horses in close contact galloping around the track, they have to jump around 5' every 10 yards. If one falls its like dominoes for every horse behind it. Even though I love steeplechase, I stopped competing after my cousin horse was put down from an accident it barely had anything to do with.
GottaLuvDaHorses 2 years ago
they race these guys waaaay before theyre developed. I just read this huge article about how racing them this young buts so much stress on there legs and back, when theyre bones arent fully developed.
if they want good results they should wait until the horses are around 6 to race them. they say 6 is when a horse fully matures.
ThePunkIrish27 2 years ago
i feel so bad for the poor horses running as fast as they can being whipped...

BubblesAreBeast 2 years ago
If you're referring to racing crops, it usually doesn't hurt the horse that much. The only semi-painful crop is the hunting whip, but normal crops/whips usually hurt the horses just about as much as a human slapping it on its flank. If the horse is hit on the face... that's different story, but a crop/whip to the flank usually doesn't hurt.
BubblesAreBeast 2 years ago
when do they start racing!?
kyleleekowgirl 2 years ago
the youngest is usually 2yrs.
sad...
horseycrazy4 2 years ago 2
no offence Anchored4 but they r starting these horses out way to young they are lunging them before their knees r grown all the way. we are breeding for speed and not strength but tht isn't the problem speed has nothing to do with race horses careers ending so soon/tragecally its the way they r being trained and the age in which they r starting out. thts my opinion..........whether u agree or disagree we r both right and both probably wrong.
ashleeey919 2 years ago 2
I agree I think we should only race them when they are mature enough 2 and 3 is way too young!!!
Anchored4 2 years ago
race horses mostly only live 3 yrs! thats horrible...did you notice the years?

so sad how young they are. i watch racing but i hate it but i dont. its cos i know it is totally unecessary

I was at a race in Tulsa and witnessed and horse named Mr. Yawlene break down coming around the turn to the home stretch. He had to be put down immediately, I made me very sad and made me re-examine just how I felt about horse racing. Is it really worth it?
jofussdad 3 years ago
I love horse racing!!! but I think the problem is that we are
are breeding and training to much for speed and not
building up strength that is why their bones are so fragile
(more fragile than they normally are) In Japan they build up
a lot more strength and their horses are a lot stronger!! I also think that we race them a little bit too young
