McGinty is so sweet he would never do anything to hurt people , he is a very unbalanced horse and not made for jumping lol i have been riding him all this week in the jumping week and he has been amazing for me his jumping has come on loads some times he does stop the tends to jump its just the way he it she was right to smack him to let him no he was being naughty but she should have been ready for him to react to it she made a tiny mistake and shes learnt from it :)

palominopony is right. She gave a ton of leg coming in, so last resort= crop. Turning him away from the fence would allow him to get away with refusing which could turn into a nasty habbit. Anything below 2'6" (which that looks about 2') can be jumped from a stand still. So she did the right thing, just forgot to be ready for what would come next. And obviously she was in pain so a reward wouldn't exactly be the first thing that would come to mind.

mabye you should read up on horses before attempting to give out your so called knowledge. yh u turn the horse away from the jump to do it again but from all off my experiences youhave to tell the horse off at the point off when he/she does the wrong thing otherwise they will associate the telling off with something else. like i said before the horse was quite hapy to give it a go from where he was horses know there own limits but obviously you wouldnt knw that as you need to read up o horses !
she didnt hit it hard. it was just a small slap on the shoulder. if you knew anything you would know that even top riders hit their horses on the shoulder (probably harder too) to get their horses up and over a fence. a horses skin is so thick that if you dont hit them hard enough they wont learn from anything.
she didnt force it to jump! she corrected it for refusing which wasnt bad because she had used her leg on the approach to the fence and the horse still ignored her aids.
its a school horse, if you havent noticed, it will never associate a jump with being hit!!
she couldnt praise it for jumping because in case you didnt notice, she smacked her nose on his neck and was probably in a lot of pain.
this horse is obviously a sturdy bombproof type that is used in the school to keep riders as safe as possible. if it cared about being hit like some highly strung TB, it wouldnt have been used and im sure she wouldnt have even been carrying the crop.
perhaps you should take some advice rather than being stuck up your own arse, and like i said, you can shut up now.
maybe that worked with your horse, but i'm afraid that this horse (who i ride quite often because i go to the same yard) associates being turned in a circle with getting his own way, so it's tricky to know what to do with him, also, this kid was a beginner, give her a break, it makes me laugh how so many people here preach all this horse knowledge in such a rude tone when at the end of the day it doesn't matter how much you know coz unless you know this horse & his habbits you dont know squat
He is a good horse when he wants to be, it really depends what mood he is in, but frankly I don't blame him, he is ridden all day everyday but beginner riders so i can understand why some of his bad habbits haven't been sorted out, such is the life of a school pony though, most people at an intermediate level either move on to different horses or maybe get their own. That said this is the first time i have seen him refuse a jump, but i don't see him as often as others do.

Next time a horse refuses so that you don't get hurt when it does a cat jump back it up and let it approach the jump a second time if it refuses the second time then get on its case. I'm not trying to be a know it all or mean but I learned the hard way not to punish or spur it on at a jump when it refuses otherwise it'll do a cat jump and it can get you hurt.

1. The horse was backing off within 3 or 4 strides of the jump. She was kicking but at that piont she needed to use the crop.
2.NEVER use the whip on the shoulder
3. Why whip the horse when its standing right in front of the jjump. I dont think its easy to jump from a stand still.

First off, you don't let little kids run around in a riding arena WHEN THERE IS A HORSE IN IT! It's just stupid and dangerous for the horse, rider, and little kids.
Secondly, if a horse refuses, turn him around and approch the jump again. Don't force him to jump it, and if you do, atleast be ready to jump it (like you asked him to) and don't crack your nose on his neck.
The title should be STUPID RIDER+JUMPING+RUNNING GIRLS=DISASTER

First off, I really cannot understand what you wrote. Please try to write so that it makes sense.
Secondly, if she is not an experienced jumper, (which she isn't) she should turn him around. I don't care how small it is. Of course she did not mean to hit her nose, but she asked him to jump, and he did so she should have had the brain to know what was going to happen.

McGinty is so sweet he would never do anything to hurt people , he is a very unbalanced horse and not made for jumping lol i have been riding him all this week in the jumping week and he has been amazing for me his jumping has come on loads some times he does stop the tends to jump its just the way he it she was right to smack him to let him no he was being naughty but she should have been ready for him to react to it she made a tiny mistake and shes learnt from it :)

well one hit was not as bad as wat some do u no she had no spurs on and only gave him one tap not like she was commiting horse abuse or anything and i dont hit my pony only wen she acts naughty coz shes got to no its not excetable bcoz if i let her get away with it she culd do it again and b dangerous like she used to swerve jumps all the time so i had to keep the whip on the shoulder she turned out on and tap her not smack the crap out of and she wuld stay on track

I dont know about other horses but the seven I have (including a Clydesdale) never refuse to jump.
They know that on the other side of the jump or round of jumps theres a treat waiting for them, so no way are they going to refuse.

I never said my horses dont like jumping.
They do, one in particular loves to jump, when I go out on a hack he always wants to take the trail with the jumps.
So mine jump because they enjoy it and because they know they will get a treat.

this isn't someones horse though, this is a rather old yard pony, everyone knows what yard ponies are like, they are not like the horses that people buy, horses refuse to jump for all sorts of reason, in the case of thise one (since i know him myself) he is just lazy and also not the best jumper, he's not really built for it.

palominopony is right. She gave a ton of leg coming in, so last resort= crop. Turning him away from the fence would allow him to get away with refusing which could turn into a nasty habbit. Anything below 2'6" (which that looks about 2') can be jumped from a stand still. So she did the right thing, just forgot to be ready for what would come next. And obviously she was in pain so a reward wouldn't exactly be the first thing that would come to mind.

hitting him like he had no choice but to jump, and technically he had to almost bunny hop to get over it.

mabye you should read up on horses before attempting to give out your so called knowledge. yh u turn the horse away from the jump to do it again but from all off my experiences youhave to tell the horse off at the point off when he/she does the wrong thing otherwise they will associate the telling off with something else. like i said before the horse was quite hapy to give it a go from where he was horses know there own limits but obviously you wouldnt knw that as you need to read up o horses !

she didnt hit it hard. it was just a small slap on the shoulder. if you knew anything you would know that even top riders hit their horses on the shoulder (probably harder too) to get their horses up and over a fence. a horses skin is so thick that if you dont hit them hard enough they wont learn from anything.

this horse is obviously a sturdy bombproof type that is used in the school to keep riders as safe as possible. if it cared about being hit like some highly strung TB, it wouldnt have been used and im sure she wouldnt have even been carrying the crop.

I went to riding schools when I was a kid and I rode plenty of horses like this.
One in paticular was so darn lazy he used to canter up to the jump and stop dead just like this horse.
What did I do?
I turned him around and done it again, every time he jumped it I praised him and gave him a treat.
After a week he never stopped again.
Try it with this horse, I bet you it works.
Plus I have entered 32 jumping competitions and came first 23 times.
I know what Im talking about.

maybe that worked with your horse, but i'm afraid that this horse (who i ride quite often because i go to the same yard) associates being turned in a circle with getting his own way, so it's tricky to know what to do with him, also, this kid was a beginner, give her a break, it makes me laugh how so many people here preach all this horse knowledge in such a rude tone when at the end of the day it doesn't matter how much you know coz unless you know this horse & his habbits you dont know squat

I wish I knew this horse, I bet you $100 I could get him to jump without refusing.
I got a clydesdale a few months ago who wouldnt even do a 90cm jump.
Now he does 1.1m jumps quite happily.
I also trained my friends horse to jump.

He is a good horse when he wants to be, it really depends what mood he is in, but frankly I don't blame him, he is ridden all day everyday but beginner riders so i can understand why some of his bad habbits haven't been sorted out, such is the life of a school pony though, most people at an intermediate level either move on to different horses or maybe get their own. That said this is the first time i have seen him refuse a jump, but i don't see him as often as others do.

I feel sorry for school ponies.
They never get to bond and get used to one person.
They are constantly ridden by inexperienced riders who pull on their mouths, kick them hard and so on.
I used to go on trail rides years ago and you can definatly tell the difference when riding a horse you dont know and one thats yours.
Its like you become part of them and the bond is amazing.

Well my clydesdales top priority is his stomache. When I was training him he new once he had done a jump he'd get a treat.
After a while he started to enjoy it.
He managed to jump a 1.3m jump a few days ago.

for your info two of my 7 horses are stallions and I have had them since they were born Ive broken them in, trained them to jump(without them refusing it or whipping them)

Right ok the girl can obviously ride very well as she would not have sat that jump the way she did and she did the right thing by smacking the pony infront of the jump where it had stoped as this tells the pony off for stopping there and the pont just thought well i will give it a go since u told me of which means a very HONEST pony for doing that and just because she was holding the reins in 1 hand doensnt mean she is in trouble as u see people ridin like that all the time SO SHUT UP U WANNABES

The horse isnt too fat, but the horse stopped before the jump, she should have taken it in a circle and tried again. The horse was at a complete stop, then she kicks it and smacks it to go over quite a high jump from a halt? what is she doing? and wheres the trainer? i think shes doing too high of jumping for her abilities.

Next time a horse refuses so that you don't get hurt when it does a cat jump back it up and let it approach the jump a second time if it refuses the second time then get on its case. I'm not trying to be a know it all or mean but I learned the hard way not to punish or spur it on at a jump when it refuses otherwise it'll do a cat jump and it can get you hurt.
