I just don't get the difference between a) checking and letting him bet $10K and calling it and b) raising small and letting him reraise and calling it. He says "I was hoping he'd bluff at the pot and I'd call him." How do you know there it's a bluff vs. he had AK all along?
@Graphaks the 2.5k bet howard did allowed him to know for sure if he was bluffing. KK is no re-raise hand on the river, too many hands can beat it and from the information Howard had gatheres he was confident that his opponent did not have 2 pair or a set (a hand good enough to re-raise). the only hand he was scared of was KK. so because he re-raised it meant he did not have KK, and form the info we a sure he doesnt have 2 pair or a set. therefor you call. Very complicated, but good poker.
@mellettolag what is also important to add is that KK is not a re-raise hand, because worse hand simply fold while better hands will either call or put him all in, so a raise will bring no benifit with KK, it only risks money. (Of course, in this particular example, Howard Lederer called with something worse than KK, but his opponent couldn't know that)
