Mistakes will be made. After negotiating for days to make them release the hostage didn't work, deadly force was needed to end that situation. Military isn't always the right answer, but that day they were.

When I stand Officer of the Deck on my ship, I'll issue a radio warning at 1 mile if the vessel in question has constant bearing/decreasing range and shows no sign of deviating course. At 0.5 miles I'll issue a final warning with an ultimatum for deadly force. If the vessel doesn't deviate from its present course, I'll ask the captain to authorize batteries release at 500yds.
