the jet stream is upper level winds that are part of the natural weather patterns of n.america

the jet blast is the exhaust gasses from the ass end of a turbofan/turbojet engine. at this particular airport the aircraft starts at the open-end of the runway, facing the mountains, with the beach behind them. i dont know why...id think itd be better to take off where you dont have mountains to catch you in the event your engines give out. water is softer than rock

... And... HOW, exactly, is this "crazy"? The only two things that make this different than a standard VFR flightplan is the mountain at the far end (hence why they cannot land from that side), and the fact the Princess Juliana Int'l has no VFR frequency - it is strictly IFR.
