or what range of reed strengths and brands do you use? Although I cannot fault you on whatever you are using it would be nice to hear one or two strenghts harder in a Vandoren Rue Lepic.
Sam have you ever thought of seriously playing the tenor saxophone, you would not have a lot of competition out there and I mean playing the same music on the tenor sax that you play on the clarinet.People may notice your technical ability and even your exceptional clearness but it is really your resonance and super efficient tone production which I consider the most important area in which you excel. the clarinet needs a good kick up the backside and you are the one to do it. What strength reed
I have to say, you're technical ability is pretty up there. Try something lyrical, with a metronome maybe? I'm not trying to bash, just saying... it's all really flashy and without feeling or substance. But seriously KUDOS on technicality - you have an incredibly fast tongue and very accurate fingers. Not a bad sound either. :)
what was the variation of the Carnival of Venice song you were playing. My dad used to play it all the time in the morning. That's what we woke up to. They just recently donated all their books an music to charity so I can't get the music. I really want my daughter to learn how to play it. Although, you play it even better than my dad...
...Great tone and technice...These clarinet sings.....What mouthpiece does he use?...Clarinet is obvioously Buffet Crampon, Festival or RC.....Excellent!!
While this is semi-interesting and technically impressive (to an extent), the clarinet has so much more to offer than just notes and technique, I don't think he quite understands that yet.
u r really good i hav been playing for almost 4 years and i luv it im in advanced band and how long hav u been playing i mean amazing i would luv 2 know comment back please :)
this is very inspiring for me to just get better on my clarinet and i hope that one day i will be able to play proffesionally and thank you for posting this video it was Excellent
i agree with Whoitisnot... great show of dexterity, however be careful not to play certain excerpts too fast.. speed is not everything. Also, careful when playing pieces from memory if you have not solidly learned it. for instance, your Mozart clarinet concerto Op. 622... you started on the 2nd phrase in the recapitulation and then went back to the opening statement. these types of errors will only make it harder when practicing the piece if you internalize the errata.
Very fluid, but unfortunately much of it is sloppy and rushed to the point of being rhythmically inaccurate and dropping notes. What's the point of this video? Why turn some nice music into a bunch of stunts? Lot's of potential, but right now it's all sizzle and very little steak. Listen more, feel more, show off less. Just one guy's opinion.
@progbrad . In response to the comment you made earlier: 25 people gave what I said a thumbs up. I imagine most of them are musicians, as am I. You might deduce that from the terminology I used. Since you have inferred otherwise I'll share with you that I have been playing and teaching clarinet professionally for over 20 years. I've taught all levels of student from beginners to college music majors. I've had many students playing 1st part in state honor groups, etc. Thanks though.
@whoitisnot He's practicing. When I practice guitar I do a lot of sweep picking, to the point that you would prob say the same thing to me...yet it's rarely in my actual music. I guess you shouldn't practice things that'll make you better though, it just doesn't make sense.
And again, "what's the point of this video?"...he's practicing, someone taped it...look at the title.

I love the Carnival of Venice! I'm learning to play it now. On flute. But I can only play it in 6 at 112-120. It depends on the day.
You rule. I wish I played flute as well as you play clarinet.
