  • What is the point of this?

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • 1:01 cold steel knife???

  • I freaked out when I read about this in Popular Science. They just said its purpose was "to cut humans" with various objects. Sounds like a murder-bot.

  • I dont get it

  • Collision detection is easy. I have programmed computer-wafer handling robots to do it. (I did however nix a project to use our robot for implanting hair plugs. :-)) I have seen gigantic robots that detect objects with tiny wire whiskers, through torque monitoring on the huge arm's motor.

The trick will be making a robot that will slice a ham, but will not slice a human arm. That would impress me.

  • Yes , That good .

  • Jig Saw will use it

  • Hooray for all the heroes of Science! I bet there are lots of failed human trials that were not shown in this video... Hahaha...

  • Haven't any of you seen the SawStop table saw? This technology is already in commercial production.

  • how about stab the person in the eyes!!!!

  • "Oh damn, we forgot to turn collision detection on, sorry pal!"

  • @moijk xD hahaha

  • guy has massive balls. kudos.

    who'd volunteer for that??

  • Bacon prepared by robots is the most precisely delicious bacon.

  • the ultimate way to test device is to put you sack of balzz on a plate and then lets see if that knife stops !

  • now paint it black and play rap music.

  • definitely thought this was something else... weird... just gonna say...

  • Falta la prueba con humano si colision detecction

  • This is more important than it looks. Robotic actuators are pretty powerful and future robots that interact with soft-bodied humans are going to need this kind of programming to prevent harm that's unintended.

Imagine robots in some futuristic nursery. They will need to be able interact directly with children without hurting them.

  • Wow, brave guy in the end. I'd have shat my pants.

  • an IR sensor to differentiate between living and nonliving might make more sense

  • im guessing that there proving robots will over-power us and destroy the world :O

  • If the collision detector dont work......you're die!!! Fucking robots

  • like

  • man, that guy's really laying it on the line

  • lol omg that sucks if it was real life wat a stab

  • Okay, but if you would only have a knife attached to a robot arm if you wanted it to cut something, right? How would you get the robot to tell the difference between a human limb and, for example, a slab of pork?

  • @authordragonbreath well that's obvious. A human will shout out swearings and a slab of pork will lie there silently.

  • i guess this makes automated assembly robots safer to work around humans.

It'd still bonk you on the head pretty hard though.

  • @roidroid oh nevermind, the very next video deals with head bonking

    watch?v=R5Gx8jpwyQ0

  • scary, but awesome at the same time

  • why would you let it stab you dude wtf

  • @class503 maybe he's brave??

  • damn :D
