Hello Kyra! Thank you for viewing and for commenting. I am fascinated with Harriet Powers. Have read some things about her. Looking for more in the future. Have a great day.
I really love the Gee's Bend quilts. Those ladies are awesome. Back in 2006 I saw the Gee's Bend Exhibition at The High Museum in Atlanta. Also, I have the DVD that accompanied the show. That was a GREAT DAY. I was COMPLETELY lost in the show...Quilters are WONDERFUL artists. BTW, I am VERY GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU. You're missed whenever you're not around....Don't hide in your cave for too long....:-)
Jennifer, THANK YOU for the comment. Several folks have mentioned that I should paint more sunflowers...just in the past two days....Hmmmmm, perhaps, I SHOULD.....:-)
69 is really a magic number for these reasons: I'm the 69th visitor to this video and a few days ago I celebrated my 69th birthday. I'm sure there must be other reasons as well! LOVE this video. Thanks for opening my eyes to Harriet Powers. Your painting is beautiful and full of wonder. --Val
Valerie, I am SO glad you stopped by and viewed AND COMMENTED AND LIKED the video/painting....THANK YOU!!!! Harriet Powers...VERY INTERESTING LADY in our Nation's history. I am happy I discovered her. HOPE YOUR BIRTHDAY WAS FAB!!!!!!
Yes- I do need to pull out the brushes (Or buy new ones, the others are so OLD) but good news, I sold one of my old paintings YEA - now no excuse not to get some new brushes and pull out the paints. (except- time... late for work already)
THANKS FOR STOPPING BY!!!! The inspiration is BIG TIME!!!...I love the fact that someone who lived long ago...A seemingly ordinary person...can leave a legacy.....:-)
Before writing my actual comment - WOW, that's an Incompetech tune?? Impressive!
I really like the sunbursts!
And what a stretch of time she lived in. From slavery through Reconstruction (such as it was) into the 20th century. Another decade and she would have seen women get the vote.
Curt, I REALLY love the music...I have thought about it all day long. Thanks for the comment on the painting. Ms. Powers must have been a wonderful person. I am looking forward to learning more about her.
Ronnie I really like that one. Quilting is a actually a great place to look for inspiration in your folk art. I love all the geographic patterns found in antique quilts. -Jim
Thank you Jim! I appreciate your comment. I love to study about quilting. IT FASCINATES ME. To think of the hours and materials that have been used...the human energy...just to create the quilts of the past. I have painted different things in the past that were inspired by old quilts. Hope you have a fantastic week.
keep making videos
