  • can someone please tell me the chord progression?

  • boy that looked like fun!

  • Dangerous Dan is the man! Great video!!

  • killer shit luv wHen the ABB hits nyc ... makes me miss dickey MORE,,,BXNYC...

  • Dan is playing a Martin D-35, and playing it righteously.

  • Dickie is such an amazing guitar player. He is way better than the bums today.

  • I'm really digging this.

You do not fuck with Dickey Betts, he can get downright nasty, such a damn good guitar player.

  • I always thought Dan Toler was a GREAT guitarist, really under rated and not talked about much in the history of the Allman Brothers.

Of course Dickey Betts is an unbelievable talent.

  • anyone know what sort of guitar dickey is playing? I can see it has two cutouts but I cant make out the brandname

  • @Heatherbird3 WOW!! Dickey is playing an IBANEZ Artist!!Thats RARE, still Mahogany equals tone, and with Dickey at the Helm, you will never suffer from tone deprivation, and good ole SOUTHERN FLAIR!! Be proud your a Rebel cause the SOUTHS Gonna do it again...

  • Dickey Betts blows my fucking mind every time he even looks at a guitar

  • watched with my mouth open....play myself for 40 years...I bow for Dickey and Dan...

  • Jazzadlimitum - The Preacher

  • Dickie is the most under-rated guitarist in the world. He is as good as anyone. He can play any style at a mastery level. People would often ask: "Who is better; Duane Allman or Derek Trucks"? I think Dickie was better than both of them.

  • @tothatextent I agree with you about the Derek Trucks thing. Personally, i hate Derek's playing. He plays the same fricken licks for every song. On the other hand, I wouldn't go saying Dickey is better than Duane. I mean he's definitely close but Duane was just a little better in my opinion. But Duane and Dickey are by far my 2 favorite guitarists of all time and yes, Dickey is way too underrated.

  • @austinabernethy456

Your crazy , Derek is amazing, ask his peers Clapton etc

  • @holmeed yeah that comment was from a while ago before i found out how fricken amazing he is. I used to cut up his style all the time and i take it all back. Im really into his band now.

  • @tothatextent Okay, so you actually believe that Dickie Betts can play Allan Holdsworth at the same level? Really??? you actually BELIEVE that??? Really? or Bireli Lagrene? John Scofield? or Scott Henderson? Really?

  • @Chromatype I don't know if he can play like all those people you mention as of today, as he is getting up there in age. But, in his prime he was good, really good. He has amazing timing and great dexterity. Allan Holdsworth, in my opinion, has no sense of melody. I don't think that guy has ever written a song in his life, it is just improv bullshit. Now, I'm sure I couldn't play like Holdsworth, but I seriously wouldn't want to. I like songs, which Dickie was good at making.

  • smokin'

  • dickey betts is the fuckin man

  • i ment sun burst not gold top

  • 58 gold top

  • someone has any tabs for this song?

  • great stuff! anyone know what guitar betts is using? is it his gold top 57?

  • That is an Ibanez Artist series. It is a double cutaway. It is not a Les Paul.

  • Wow! Just wow!

  • just about to say the same thing. all i could think of was, WOW

  • @landflatjeff16

I've got a country music (I love country, I just don't limit my listening to it) friend who always badmouths me for liking jazz and jazz music.

Well, this video proves him wrong, way wrong.

  • I couldn't agree more, I love seeing late night jam sessions, especially with Dickey Betts. I've watched the other one, "Danny Blue", a million times. Does anyone know if Dickey or The Allman's recorded that song?

  • its not even fair how amazing this is lol I love seeing stuff like this. Musicians just having good times jammin' together

  • Haha cool! The way they played it sounds similar to Django Reinhardt' s style.

  • Dickie is one of the best. It ooks like he is playing an Ibanez Artist series.

  • Chords please ! :D

  • can anyone please tell me what guitar scale and key they are playing especially for dangerous dans solo

  • By checking an online guitar tuner they are playing in the key of E. To play along use the

E7 A7 B7, there's some more used to but you can figure them out.

  • oops, make that the key of A

  • Dickey is simply one of the all**time great players. I don't listen to a lot of AB, but when I do hear one of their songs on the radio it always reminds me how great they were as a band and as individual players. Thanks for posting this--amazing to see Betts in this kind of uc&p setting!

  • Whats up Alex, thanks for introducing me to these guys!! Gotta get one of those shirts!

  • Dan and dickey had a falling out over a drunken cross bow incident I am told...

  • Dan toler was and is a great guitarist.Played on the brothers of the Road era Allmans which I think was like, 1978 to 1982..... Nice clean country chicken pickin from Betts huh?

  • Anyone know who the first soloist is? How about the second one?

    Thanks

  • The first guy is "Dangerous" Dan Toler and the second guy is Dickey Betts.

  • Ilove it! I'm 41yrs old, and my grandad ( god rest his soul), used to play this on his '61 stratotone thru his '58 fender tweed amp. Nice jazz w/good flatpickin. Duane was a good jazz guitarist, too. He used to pay the bills by being a session player- but you probably know that, huh? He's wasn't given credits on some albums, he said that didn't bother him at all. Ain't that somethin'... GREAT VIDEO audioglass. And thanks for the reply!

  • To be honest I never knew that! I only really know the songs jessica and come and go blues. bad eh! Oh yes and this one.

    Glad you liked it!

  • this songs remind me of a old song from 1932 called "stage fright"

  • Who is that playing with Dickey?

  • James Hetfield.

  • Ummmm....probably not even out of diapers yet! But thanks for the try!

  • "dangerous" dan toler playing with betts. he still plays guitar in dickies band.

  • no, he did for awhile, but quit in 2004 I think.

  • i saw dickey betts and great southern recently and he was no where as good as he was back in the day

  • for some reason dickey bet seams like an ass. but he has writen some good music.. wouldnt be no good without the abb

  • i have met him several times, very nice guy.

  • Are you kiddin'? I saw Betts about three years ago and everything I would have have wanted to hear ABB do - he wrote it. He defined ABB sound as much as Duane- probably one of the most underated guitarists of our time.

  • You hit the nail on the head brother.........Dickey was the heart & soul of that band after Duane passed........How soon they forgot he carried them for over 30 years with his songwriting and tone......I MISS DICKEY in the ABB but, he i still out touring doing what he does best

  • Comment removed

  • great comment.

  • still is and always will be one of my favorite guitarist of all time...

  • amazing. i'm trying to learn it, having some trouble! done some of it must have watched it 65 times already! absolutely fantastic!

  • can you please pass me the tabs

  • if you have the tab or even part of the tab, i would gladly take a look

  • bob wills would be proud of this western swing.

  • These old guys can shred lol

  • Is that Dangerous Dan with him?

  • YES!! They ROCKED!!! I love em...Dickey, and Dangerous Dan Toler

  • Oh yeah.

  • These guys are groovin. In reality .01% of guitar players can really get down like this -blazing over complex jazz chord changes. I like how the cat smokin a cig behind Dickey point at Dickey around 1:40, as if to say "Damn, this guy is fire!"

  • he always will be one of my favorite guitarist..

  • 1:23 to 1:33... simply orgasmic.

  • WOW!!

  • looks like a paul reed smith to me

  • nvm it is an ibanez

  • No Sir, The PRS Dickey played/plays has no Neck binding. Although some PRS Private Stocks do have neck binding, back when this was filmed PRS only had his regular Custom 24Guitars.That is if this was filmed after 85?It is an Ibanez Artist. G'Day.

  • good one - thanks

  • i've seen those curtains before...

  • that does look like a shit ton of fun

  • Very beautiful and nice this video!

    Greetings Giuliano

  • Man, that must be fun!! Your damn right, long live Dickey!!! The Allman Bros. just aint the same without Dickey.

  • long live dickey betts.... oh my... oh my!

  • that was the coolest jam ive ever seen, for sure.;

  • this reminds me of a cocaine party.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean, even though I had to give that stuff up, but damn, it was good.

  • tabs?!

  • sorry dude. I dont have tabs on this beast. I dont even know the name of this obviously well known (to them) classic.

  • audioglass, Thanks for posting!! The song is "The Preacher" by Horace Silver. Popular jam number in some circles. Search YouTube for "Jazzadlimitum - The Preacher" is a good example

  • Thanks man! I have update the title and description now. Thanks.

  • um... sick...

  • DICKEY RULES!!!

  • My lord dickie i do declare.

  • pure joy.

  • man dickey knows how to get down and boogie hard

  • we lost brother duane on october 29, 1971, bout a month shy of his 25th birthday

  • what year did we lose duane the king?

  • thanks tram84mvp

  • what is the name of the guitarist playing the acoustic guitar??

  • He is "Dangerous" Dan Toler, he was an ABB guitarist from 79-81 and has played with Dickey's Great Southern band.

  • and the greg allman band in the 80's . their fave song of mine was im no angel.

  • I believe this is "The Preacher", an old standard by Horace Silver. YOu can find it in many jazz fakebooks.

  • I looked up Highway Call and it only had like six songs on it -none "The Preacher". Maybe I'm missing something. Is this song on the Highway Call album? swaters please respond, I would like to find it somewhere.

  • GOD I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! I wore out my vhs of this!!!

"The Preacher" is one of my ALLTIME favorites!!!!

  • Thats why he is Dicky Betts! Listen to his chord changes, his comping, and his solo lines in between. You have to have a great memory to execute that in time, and in KEY . He does it perfectly. just think ,...he was there next to Duane all that time keeping it. Bless you Dickey.

  • I once had this concert on VHS. I think this song is called "The Preacher". I have tried to find the song on tab but so far no luck.

  • WOW!!!! Dickey's playin an Ibanez artist there!! What a tone monster...Way superior guitar in my opinion. Ibanez collectors know just how awesome these are theyre sometimes called "les paul killers". Rock on Dickey!!!

  • Your Right. I was looking at the headstock, but was distracted by their unbelievable playing. It is an Ibanez Artist DC. Good eye!!

  • That's called Western Swing boys. Ask Bob Wills. He's knows a thing or two about it. Yeeehaw.

  • If you like this you'll love Dickie's first solo album titled 'Highway Song'- similar sound, country oriented, very authentic.

  • I have the cassette, it's awesome:-)

  • I have it on laserdisk.

  • Oh, I meant I have the cassette of "Highway Song", but I woulw love to get this movie if anyone knows where I can get my hands on it

  • The album is actually named "Highway Call" and is one of the best sounding recordings I've ever heard. Listen to it on a great sound system and you will be moved. I wish Dickie was still doing that old country stuff.

  • man that was to amazing haha jokes..

  • Allman Brothers was a great blues rock band! Dicky Betts lives in Nashville now.

  • sweet. good vid, thanks

  • Very nice Bene very nice indeed.

  • These Guys are having way to much fun. It reminds me of sitting around with my grandparents as one played the piano and the other the fiddle. I love it when people play together in an setting like this!
