what gets me is how those wings just don't snap off the thing when it comes in to land? they bend and flex so much it just boggles the mind how they don't.
@link2400 The fact that they DO bend and flex so much is precisely the reason that they DON'T snap off. If they were rigid... that's exactly what they WOULD do.
@lasuvidaboy Not me! I like the 747 - it's the classic heavy. But I think the -8 is one development too far from the basic aircraft. All of a sudden that upper deck (once it's iconic feature) looks awkward.
Proper crosswind technique requires "cross-controlling" to keep the aircraft's trajectory parallel with its axis to avoid excessive side-load on the gear. This technique mandates the lowering of the wing into the direction of the wind. On a low wing aircraft there is a limit before the wing tip strikes the runway. Therefore, the aircraft must be brought to near-touchdown in a "crabbing" attitude as shown here. At the last instant, rudder is applied.
FYI... the computer is there to assist the pilot and co-pilot. In this test, it did not control the airplane as that was the purpose of the test...to see if it could handle the last minute antics involved in crosswind landings.
how do they turn the plane like that the last second before it touches down? I know its the rudder but so they use the pedals to contral the turn or something else?
@topgun8881 The computer controls the rudder, the pilots rarely have to put their feet on the pedals of a plane this size. The computer did most of that landing, the pilot might have nursed it in with the ailerons.

But I'll tell you what - somebody must have let one through it said "Airbus are ***t and if it aint Boeing I'm not going" so I complained about that and they immediately took it off!! But yes I totally agree with your sentiment. Its totally amazing how they get any of these large aircraft to even get off the ground!! look at the Russian Antonov to start
@fdeflam Its not really a big step. The 747 was a big step in 1968. Its just another big airplane that was financed by Euro governments. I work on airliners and frankly A 300 were corroding garbage. But they were older ones maybe they got better? Or maybe the sideways nose gear a320's are the same as a 737? I'm glad you love aviation but I love Boeing and i have to say some of my pals at LH love airbus. I should see my first 787 in a few months.
The 747 wasn't a big step at all in 1968. Not the technology. It was a calculated, but bold risk. Huge airliners had been attempted before, and some thought Boeing were foolish to build such a huge plane in the 1960's. This was at a time when air travel still was for a selected few, and relatively few people ever visited other countries (and if they did not so by plane).

It is a little way into its introduction into the world and already you have electrical system failures and engine cowlings coming off. American's were building big planes like this Almost a half CENTURY ago. The C-5 Galaxy and the Boeing 747 were all built in the 1960's. It has taken almost 50 years for the European's to catch up and do something the American's did, and who did so without the aid of computers.
@eifeldude1 The French built the Breguet Deux-Ponts in the 1940s. It was the world's first double-decker aircraft, it was used in regular service until 1972 and it has a perfect safety record. No computers involved, I swear.
@eifeldude1 Why do people have to make everything a contest?!? Being from Canada, I prefer Boeing as well, but Airbus is and AMAZING manufacturer and is better than Boeing in some ways. Boeing is also better than airbus in some ways. Your comment sounds extremely immature.
The A380 formula is a simple one. Make the wings so large, and the engines so strong, that you can't fail getting that ass off the ground, or handling difficult situations. The wings and vertical stabilizer alone are more than a match for the super structure, which is almost small in comparison.
I'm sorry but.. why are Americans jealous? that we hardly recognize the pretentiousness of other countries always comparing themselves to us? -an American.
@bluecomet666 Americans are so jealous ..why?? this plane is yet another loser for airbus they need to sell 550 to just break even and they have been stuck at 195 for 3 yrs now Aibus says they will lose 5 billion with this plane while Boeing Dreamliner needs to sell 250 to break even and they already sold over 1000 its the biggest selling plane in history..yeah we Americans are so jealous oh by the way the Concorde is to date the biggest loser in history losing 8 billion..have
@jgalvin6567 The 747 is over 40 yrs old, designed on paper and it's still flying today. The A380 was computer aided. The 747 is still in a class of its own.
@jgalvin6567 The A380 interior quality to our time was probably the same as the 747's interior quality for its time. It just keeps getting better and better!
@gtg356y every thing in its time rember the first cell phone it was a box you alked with and now same thing tv was black and white no you have hd and 3 d tv same thing
@jgalvin6567 Thats like saying a 1975 Cadillac isn't in the same class as a 2011 Lexus. When speaking of legacy nothing touched the 747 so far. The 777 is awesome and the 787 will rewrite the book on airliners. But this sure has the size and in the hands of the right carrier it can bring the bling!
Awesome, here in hamburg we have a big Airbus Industrie! Subcribe to my channal, but you should be interested in planes and machines! it's worth to subcribe me and when you want it I subcribe you back ;-)
Americans are so jealous unbelievable. Actually I flew with an A380 and really it's the most comfortable and well equipped plane I ever flew with. Jumbo jet was cool 20 years ago my grand mother flew with a jumbo jet when she was young. Come on don't be silly doesn't matter who made it the most important thing is to be safe :)
Why do you say Americans are so jealous? I'm American, I love planes but I'm not jealous that Europe developed the a 380. I'm happy that it took them over 40 years to finally get a new jumbo jet in the sky :P . No but I'm actually happy for them. The plane is nice.
@Libanass I got news for you...all new Boeing aircraft will have fly-by- wire technology just like Airbus. And although the sticks will still be 'yokes' per say, the way it interacts with the computerized controls of the aircraft is no different than the way joysticks do.
@Libanass...i have good news for you, all systems are doubled or even tripled in fly by wire planes, so if one system fail there are another to replace it
@Libanass ...nothing is safe when it's faced to catastrophic and unlikely sequence of events, even your hidraulic steered plan wouldn't fly through mountain.
LMFAO! "jealous???" Yeah.....WTF EVER! Americans don't/won't/haven't/NEVER WILL be jealous of ANYTHING made by the cowardly fucking french! "france"..... is only on the map because we were kind enough to save their worthless asses! Their "a-380" is NOTHING more than a jet Boeing already made EONS ago with a slightly longer body! End of story!
@konakaine The Americans were jealous of Concorde, an Anglo-FRENCH plane. And you'd better do some research; as a country with a history and culture far richer than the US, France, along with other ancient European cultures and societies, laid the foundations of the modern world that YOU enjoy today. Don't forget, the US is the brash young upstart of the world. You'll be astonished at what the rest of the world invented in order for you and your countrymen to have better lives.
I don't really care about your anti-US sentiments. That's nothing new or exciting on YT.
But I am going to correct you on one mistake. No company here was EVER jealous of Concorde.
Boeing started developing the B-SST long before Concorde and killed the project after they realized that supersonic transport was highly impractical and that no country would allow mach 2 land flyovers.
France and UK were just too fist deep in the anus of foolish pride to let it go. As usual.
@bluecomet666 Americans jealous? haha yea right....We invented powered flight. We made the first jumbo jet ie the 747 in 1969 and still flying, getting better everyday (747-8I) look it up it's sweet. Took the French 35 years to catch up. lol As for safety....the A380 just had an engine blow up on takeoff not too long ago....they can only go to certain airports cuz the are too "BIG" 747 more versatile and widely used cuz it makes more sense. Go drink your wine and eat your cheese and shut up!
@twhittles65 shut up you ^^... ``took the french 35 years to catch up``. 35 years of pure tecnology and boeing is still doing the shit of the 747... the same design of the 69s... american ignorant... boeing is past the future belongs to airbus and that is the true
@Rucra1 Come on man....the 747 was perfect from the start and it has only gotten better....the just rolled out the 747-8I and I bet it out sells the A380....I have to admit it is an impressive aircraft and all..its huge but my criticism is that it is just too big to be practical....uses too much fuel takes too long to take off and land for me to see the use for it.....747 gets the job done.....always has always will and its proved its worth time and time again.
@twhittles65 ok... i agree with u... but actually we have to wait for the orders of the 747 and the a380 during the years...it`s true that the 747 is a great aircraft (not a shit that i said) but i`m an airbus fan and the tecnologies that they use is great since they created airbus
@twhittles65 No, you didn't invent powered-flight; John Stringfellow conducted powered-flights in the UK in 1848. And of course Americans can be - and certainly ARE jealous - of the A380, because, simply, they wish they'd made it. And Americans were jealous of Concorde, hence attempts to stop it flying there due to 'noise concerns'. If Concorde had been American, the Yanks wouldn't have given a shit about the noise. Oh, and jet engine invented = UK, first turboprop = UK, first jet airliner = UK.
Don't generalize us Americans, thank you. Myself and hundreds of thousands of other REAL American airplane fans LOVE the A-380. (Personally the A-340 is my favorite Airbus aircraft)
You need to take the time to investigate the difference between the real fans and novice haters who don't know anything about airplanes. And trust me, it goes both ways with the European Boeing haters. Peace!

@bluecomet666 Very true. The A380 Has prooven itself not so safe. Even during flight testing there were serious problems. They just dont go away. It is just a matter of time before there are major problems with these.......
Get real. If it wasn't for the tens of thousands of Americans that died and drove the Nazis out of France beginning on June 6,1944, you very well could be speaking (or typing in this case) German right now.
But, if it makes you feel better to think that Americans are jealouse of the French, feel free to indulge yourself.
@BigMrGXXX1 If it wasn't for the French, you wouldn't have won your war of independency... so what? we are not bringing this up anymore, stop being jealous!
@alezlesbleus Just ignore them. The ones who hate the french will never make it out of their trailer parks anyway. When push comes to shove we're allies and credit goes where credit is due.
@BigMrGXXX1 "Get real. If it wasn't for the tens of thousands of Americans that died and drove the Nazis out of France..."
If it wasn't for France helping you guys out in the American War of Independence you may well have been paying taxes to King George III for a lot longer. But anyway, none of that has to do with aeroplanes now does it?
@bluecomet666 I m amazed with all the anti-american sentiment, " american are jealous" your assumption is that we actually care? But if you want to be cocky , why don't you look at the airbus that crashed in the pacific "Airbus" due to flawed mechanics, now say your exact comment to the 200 souls buried in the ocean.
@bluecomet666 Big planes is so yesterday's technology. That is why the American's built planes like that in the 60's. Your post would have one to believe that Americans somehow don't know how to build big planes anymore. They built them almost a half a century before the A380 and without the aid of computers. Now why on earth would they be jealous??
@eifeldude1 You obviously have no clue about this subject do you? There were computers already in 60s when Jumbo Jet was made not to mention that even in those years, size was so yesterday. America wasn't able to make plane that can work in more hostile environment, which was made by 3 nations in Europe (Concorde, TU-144) and all that stuff in Concorde couldn't even be replicated by Boeing right away, they started using stuff only recently.
@eifeldude1 Big planes is yesterdays technology? Are you stupid? Airlines nowadays need way more big planes because of increasing passenger numbers, and more oversee flights.
And europeans build the concorde and the first jet enginges(in ww2) so stop being so jealous. And besides americans all come from european ancecstry, without us you wouldnt even have a nation.
@bluecomet666 lol we in america use the A380s as well, just not for continental flights. I got REALLY ANGRY kuz my aunt was headed back to France Via Lufthansa, and she got to ride in an A380. I was all "NOOOOO IM SO JEALOUS!! APLEWTNASPOGDIHDASTPLAEKNPCVLKSANTPOAEIUHGV>"
Just 150 years ago we used horse and cart, or the occasional steam train...now look, amazing.

Snafu246 9 months ago
The A380 formula is a simple one. Make the wings so large, and the engines so strong, that you can't fail getting that ass off the ground, or handling difficult situations. The wings and vertical stabilizer alone are more than a match for the super structure, which is almost small in comparison.

@jgalvin6567 The 747 is over 40 yrs old, designed on paper and it's still flying today. The A380 was computer aided. The 747 is still in a class of its own.

Americans are so jealous unbelievable. Actually I flew with an A380 and really it's the most comfortable and well equipped plane I ever flew with. Jumbo jet was cool 20 years ago my grand mother flew with a jumbo jet when she was young. Come on don't be silly doesn't matter who made it the most important thing is to be safe :)
bluecomet666 11 months ago 52
@bluecomet666
Why do you say Americans are so jealous? I'm American, I love planes but I'm not jealous that Europe developed the a 380. I'm happy that it took them over 40 years to finally get a new jumbo jet in the sky :P . No but I'm actually happy for them. The plane is nice.
jshaw6600 10 months ago
@bluecomet666 I'm not american, but I prefer boeing much more. Joystics and electronics scares the crap out of me
Libanass 10 months ago
@Libanass I got news for you...all new Boeing aircraft will have fly-by- wire technology just like Airbus. And although the sticks will still be 'yokes' per say, the way it interacts with the computerized controls of the aircraft is no different than the way joysticks do.
summersky77 10 months ago
@summersky77 and I got news for you...sometimes (most of the times) ''technology'' sucks.
One electronic problem in an airplane, and you're as good as dead

End of story!
konakaine 10 months ago
@konakaine The Americans were jealous of Concorde, an Anglo-FRENCH plane. And you'd better do some research; as a country with a history and culture far richer than the US, France, along with other ancient European cultures and societies, laid the foundations of the modern world that YOU enjoy today. Don't forget, the US is the brash young upstart of the world. You'll be astonished at what the rest of the world invented in order for you and your countrymen to have better lives.
TheMightyHartley 10 months ago
ROFl!! Yeah, that's what we were!!>>Jealous of the fucking concorde! LOL, niiiiiiice try.
Whatever, dude.......
konakaine 10 months ago
@TheMightyHartley
As usual.
patton303 9 months ago
@bluecomet666 Americans jealous? haha yea right....We invented powered flight. We made the first jumbo jet ie the 747 in 1969 and still flying, getting better everyday (747-8I) look it up it's sweet. Took the French 35 years to catch up. lol As for safety....the A380 just had an engine blow up on takeoff not too long ago....they can only go to certain airports cuz the are too "BIG" 747 more versatile and widely used cuz it makes more sense. Go drink your wine and eat your cheese and shut up!
twhittles65 10 months ago
@twhittles65 shut up you ^^... ``took the french 35 years to catch up``. 35 years of pure tecnology and boeing is still doing the shit of the 747... the same design of the 69s... american ignorant... boeing is past the future belongs to airbus and that is the true
Rucra1 10 months ago
@Rucra1 Come on man....the 747 was perfect from the start and it has only gotten better....the just rolled out the 747-8I and I bet it out sells the A380....I have to admit it is an impressive aircraft and all..its huge but my criticism is that it is just too big to be practical....uses too much fuel takes too long to take off and land for me to see the use for it.....747 gets the job done.....always has always will and its proved its worth time and time again.
twhittles65 10 months ago
@twhittles65 ok... i agree with u... but actually we have to wait for the orders of the 747 and the a380 during the years...it`s true that the 747 is a great aircraft (not a shit that i said) but i`m an airbus fan and the tecnologies that they use is great since they created airbus
Rucra1 10 months ago
@twhittles65 A380 uses less runway than 747s as the wings are far larger and landing speeds are lower.
sthill1993 9 months ago
@twhittles65 No, you didn't invent powered-flight; John Stringfellow conducted powered-flights in the UK in 1848. And of course Americans can be - and certainly ARE jealous - of the A380, because, simply, they wish they'd made it. And Americans were jealous of Concorde, hence attempts to stop it flying there due to 'noise concerns'. If Concorde had been American, the Yanks wouldn't have given a shit about the noise. Oh, and jet engine invented = UK, first turboprop = UK, first jet airliner = UK.
TheMightyHartley 10 months ago
@TheMightyHartley
Stringfellow's contraption had a 3m wingspan, carried no pilot, and flew 10m. What's to be jealous of, wanker? You damn redcoats will never change.

@bluecomet666 Big planes is so yesterday's technology. That is why the American's built planes like that in the 60's. Your post would have one to believe that Americans somehow don't know how to build big planes anymore. They built them almost a half a century before the A380 and without the aid of computers. Now why on earth would they be jealous??
eifeldude1 7 months ago
@eifeldude1 You obviously have no clue about this subject do you? There were computers already in 60s when Jumbo Jet was made not to mention that even in those years, size was so yesterday. America wasn't able to make plane that can work in more hostile environment, which was made by 3 nations in Europe (Concorde, TU-144) and all that stuff in Concorde couldn't even be replicated by Boeing right away, they started using stuff only recently.
Triglavus 7 months ago
@Triglavus where is the concorde NOW? extinct... just like the A380 is going to be .... Nice piece of machinery it is tho...
04ramtuff 7 months ago
@eifeldude1 Big planes is yesterdays technology? Are you stupid? Airlines nowadays need way more big planes because of increasing passenger numbers, and more oversee flights.
And europeans build the concorde and the first jet enginges(in ww2) so stop being so jealous. And besides americans all come from european ancecstry, without us you wouldnt even have a nation.

TheBoeing737Pilot 5 months ago
@TheBoeing737Pilot How can you compare the a320 to the 787?
The a320 is used for short-medium haul flights while the 787 is for long haul flights.
And besides the a320 is a narrow-body jet, a 787 is a wide body jet.
It's like apples and oranges.
