  • The IPad supports the new rating system

  • @Creationsifmyown don't warry about it all is cool. Perhaps I phones/iPods need updating lol. I do have a pc but it's just much easier and faster to use my iPod.

  • @MegaBIGBLACKASS

hey asshole, ITS NOT FUCKING STEEL.

he didnt say a thing about any of the shit you are responding to,

just because it is metal doesnt mean it is steal, it even says its tin...

tin is NOT steel, dont be so fucking ignorant you stupid tit.

  • @MegaBIGBLACKASS

"ive seen vids of bullets shot to a katana and it sliced them,"

which has WHAT to do with anything?

"look this movie on youtube: modern samurai skills he cuts threw a steel pipe, "

so according to you, all metal is steel?

the pipe is NOT made of steel... seems you need to get your head right boy... i suggest you read comments more carefully, it will save u looking like an idiot.

  • Sorry forgot to rate lol anyway 5 stars

  • @DarkChaoto

it is impossible for you to rate 5 stars...

youtube implemented a "like/dislike" system months ago.

  • @Creationsofmyown if your using an ipod or iphone you still get the 5 star rating instead of the thumbs up or down.

  • @DarkChaoto EWWWW

my apologies, but for the record, 5* rating system doenst impact vidoes anymore.

  • Does the hamon effect the quality of the blade or is it solely for decerative purpuses?

  • @DarkChaoto The hamon can potentially affect both the quality and the performance of the blade. The reason the hamon is there is to give the blade the hardest possible (within reason) edge while maintaining some flexibility to prevent breakage. If it is done improperly, it can result in a terrible sword. When done properly, it contributes to a very strong cutting edge. Aesthetics are just a nice bonus.

  • @Hyoujinsama Thank you for the reply your the first person to give me a good answer on this subject.

  • is it better to have a sword with a real hamon ive had friends say it dosent make a difference but id like to hear from someone not trying to sell me a sword or from someone that dosent know what their talking about

  • hai kevin, hope u have a great day everyday, i just want to ask u something, well, is there a katana that can cut steel? thanks:)

  • NO. there is not.

    steel doesnt cut steel.

    it just doesnt happen.

i read something that may clue u in to the metallurgy in question.

"a poor quality katana will bend, a masterforged katana shatters."

that said, swords only cut through steel in anime.

  • Nice video Kevin. Which Katana is this on your website?

  • how are the quality of the sword at swordnarmory? I know the one in the video is from there, but how are they?

  • i wish i have that katana(one day):)

its so shiny and bright..i like it.:)

but i like a katana with a bugi, cause it looks perfect..:) goodluck kevin n thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, :)

  • hai kevin, nice vid and knowlegde.;) whats the difference between ,none hamon and a hamon on the blade?. ok, kevin thanks for this vid about hamon..:) have a nice day everyday.:)

  • hai kevin, thanks for the comment:) wish u a happy birthday everyday..:)lol..:) and happy always with your job..

ur a good man n s a good hearted samurai.:))

  • Richard, thanks! I'm glad you like the vids. I really like yours, too. Makes me wish I had stayed in kempo a lot longer than I did.

  • hai kevin, hope ur feel good, i just want to ask u something, if we cut a bottle and the blade gets wet, do we need to clean it up with choji oil?

ok, thanks kevin for your teaching..:) goodluck, hope everything is fine:) -especially UBC-

  • Hey! Doing well. Yourself?

Well, first clean the blade. Drying it off and rubbing it down with 90+% Rubbing Alcohol works better than most of the cheap uchiko powder one finds in the kits.

Then apply a thin coat of fresh oil. It doesn't have to be choji, per say, but something that is intended for metal. Try to get something with no detergents, as that could damage the saya.

  • I was wondering if you could tell me whats the best practical katana to buy and use thats not too pricey? Thankyou!

  • the one your looking at...

less than 200 bucks is about the best you can get for a carbon steel funtional katana.

and t10 to boot so i bet it will take a beating. im getting one of these bad boys myself.

  • and you just got owned... come on tough guy call the cops PLEEEEEEAAASE i really want you too...

  • im so glad you said that... i have evidence that contradicts you and im going to show it... video should be up by tomorrow.

really? name 1 who thinks im dean...

i already dared you to go to your neighbour and any other authority you please...

go for it hot shot. lets see! what you got?

i havent done a thing wrong and you know it...

you still havent countered a thing..

CLAY IS APPLIED TO MUNE, NOT MUD NOT TO THE EDGE. and kevin IS NOT CONFUSED.

STOP THE LIES, GET REAL KID

  • thats what i told you to do.... by all means... i even offered my address so you can send me legal documentation.

ah wait... i dont know if you got that pm... you blocked me as soon as you sent me a pm asking me questions... i simply challenged you to the same thing you challenged dean to, PLEASE show your neighbour! i even have a message from your sockpuppet account... raeghoul and "just call me rae" on ur profile

your lies are still on the table and you havent countered any of them.

  • i never said a thing about race....

i said nationality... learn to read...

if you can show a mistake i would love to see it... but synonyms are SIMILAR not SAME.

  • making this about nationality now? atleast we dont speak the bastardized version you americans speak...

it's called ENGLISH for a reason... we speak the root language same as the ENGLISH.

i haven't made a mistake... and have called you on 3 lies... i also challenged you to provide a video that says mud... and you cant...

your surrender is accepted willingly and without contempt lets play again sometime... and remember if you say something dumb kids I will be there to correct it ;)

  • how astute of you... it is mentioned directly to be used to highlight the hamon... not create it... your lie is still not covered...

and your semantic argument that mud = clay is so tired... you have been corrected your ignorance now is no excuse...

tell you what ... wanna counter my first point there? show us the video that says mud. i sure got you talking now.... so much for "talk to the hand"

    nice fail nooby

  • so? you are ignoring the other errors... your still wrong... no amount of coverup is going to change that.

i like your little strawman argument... thats cute.

you lied 3 times before u even got to my name in your video.

kevin isnt confused about the process, he knows exactly how his hamon was created.

number 2 is that you saw a video saying mud.

number 3 kevin never said his blade was acid etched.

3 lies before you even get to me... PWNAGE u fuckup loser.

  • Nice video, love your stuff! Keep it coming!

  • Thanks!

  • talk to the hand? but then you make a video and ask me questions but still have me blocked?

im glad your tired of me... glad to wear down.

keep up the pity party, but your still wrong, incomplete definitions dont change that.

    1. you said it was mud

    2. you said it was applied to the edge

    3. you quoted a thesaurus. when most dictionaries destroy the very point your trying to make.

do you always ask questions of the people you get pwned by and block?

  • what have you displayed? that you dont know how to spell Gesture? that you think carbon MUD is used in differential hardening?

so you are quoting from poorly made videos like your some sort of source for said knowledge.... a little tip for next time... check your facts FIRST then i wouldnt have to correct you...

your denial of error is hilarious in the utmost... then again i guess that covers your denial of your sock account Raeghoul... with ur name (Rae) on your description... TARD

  • clay and mud are entirely different... you were talking out of ur ass...

shame? why have shame? i have pride in my knowledge...

good that you disowned the faker... pity it took all the real artists leaving his little circle jerk to clue in to what dean was telling you all along...

i think you took your videos down as a Gesture that you admitted defeat on those points... hiding YOUR shame...

i dont think kevin will mind we have been friends for a long time.

  • it shows...

there is no mud involved... differential hardening is done with CLAY... but your too busy sucking ass to ChosonFakester to bother with research now arent you?

still havent taken up my challenge i see... and surprise surprise you took down your video about me :( ashamed of your lack of argument maybe?

    what a joke..

  • Well, the hamon is a result of the selective hardening process. The hardening process does involve clay, but the clay is applied along the spine and body, the edge being uncovered. The blade is heated to past critical, then quenched. The quench itself is what creates the hamon. The carbon in the steel was introduced before the actual forging.

As for the acid, many companies do use acid to enhance the hamon as a cheap and easy imitation hadori polish...but the hamon is still real.

  • nice vid kev. im gonna be in l.a pretty soon. ill give you a call. maybe we can hit up the cutting squad again.

  • Thanks, bro! Deffinately let us know when you come back down!

  • Great explanation. I didn't know that those markings where actual changes in the structure of the steel.

  • Thanks. ^_^

  • Is that something to do with the laminations in the blade of different steels developing a slightly different patina? Kind of like a damascus.

  • Well, patina is a stabilized corrosion. As for the hamon, it's nothing to do with lamination. It comes from the quench. The blade is selectively hardened by applying clay to the spine which acts as insulation for when the heated blade contacts the water. The uninsulated edge cools faster and becomes harder, while the body cools much more slowly. Slow cooling prevents the formation of martensite, which is the steel crystal that makes up the hamon.

  • Thank you so much for posting the video with the explanation!

  • No problem at all.

  • long time no see Kevin :)

  • Lol. Sorry I haven't posted more.

  • Hey Kev great to see you post again.

I was wondering if you had an opinion of either these Hanwei swords the L6 Oni or Tori XL?

  • Thanks. ^_^

Hmm...that's a tough one, really. I haven't owned either, however I have handled the Tori. As far as the Oni, all I know is hearsay. Send me a message with some specifics that you want to know about, and I'll let you know what I can.

  • great explanation as always!

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks, Mark! How's everything going?

  • Thanks Kev for the explanation!

  • No prob, bro! Gonna have another vid up on another blade, tomorrow! ;)

  • Good vid, thanks

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Thank you, Tadashi-sensei!

Out of curiosity, do you use nihonto or otherwise when a shinken is required?

  • sup dood :D, nice vid

  • Thanks!

  • Hi Kevin long time I don't see a vid of yours keep em coming

  • Hey, brother! Coming out of a slump. Hopefully there will be more soon. ^_^

  • man i can't wait until i can afford a sword with a differentially tempered, or even folded blade. i'm digging the musashi kobuse folded san mai series. have you heard any bad news about those or are they worth the $350?

  • For $350, I'd get one...but I'd do some work to it. A $350 Musashi is still a Musashi, and they all have their quirks.

With any Musashi blade, it's a bit of a gamble.

  • yeah, i was going to re-wrap the handle in dark brown to give it a bit of a custom look, or have someone wrap it for me because i suck.

  • I could wrap it for you if you wanted.

  • Nice hamon! Kevin, isn't that crystal structure called nie or nioi?

  • I rarely use the traditional terms when describing modern steel, simply because the traditional structures rarely show in modern steels.

I suppose, though, the wisps could be nioi.

Nioi - Smallest particles. Often cloudy.

    Nie - Medium particles.

Ara-Nie - Large particles. The most hard.

These are the major types of hamon crystals.

  • what model is this ? i cant find it on their website... everything they have in the japan category is sub 100$

  • Don't check there. Look under Handmade Sword. It's one of their T10 blades. HM-233BK, I think.

  • domo kevin

i didnt think you could get a real hamo with t10, how does it cut?

  • Do itashi mashite.

Yeah. Hanwei used to use a lot more T10 than they do now, and they only recenty came out with a series without hamon.

As for cutting, if it's anything like some of their other blades I've cut with...then rather well.
