@biggrych166 Dude! It's the crap actors that make cheesy sci-fi shows awesome. Well, that and the really BAD special effects. I mean, I doubt Babylon 5, Seaquest DSV, or their contemporaries would have been nearly as much fun with super-high production values. If a show gets too much of a budget, they start having to take themselves seriously.
I knew that if Battletech was ever made into a live-action production it would look absolutely pathetic. The Mechs were ok, the rest simply made me cringe.
they should do a pilot and make this into a series like in battlestar galatica, they cant do an amazing story plot like it? that would be so fuckin amazing if this went to a series!
By the by, am I the only one who thinks a Mechwarrior or Battletech movie would be a HORRIBLE idea? With the depth and scope of the fictional niverse, I think a HBO series is much more warranted.... like ROME with 'Mechs!!! :)
personally, i LOVE it! I remember watching this cheesy-ass cartoon every Saturday morning back in the day. Great use of current videos to make an old soundtrack not seem quite like the bundle of crap that it once was. :) And by the way, I'm a classic Battletech fan, have been since I was twelve which was back in '92. Very amusing!
couldve thrown in a few choice clips from Dune. wouldve worked ^^ altogether a pretty neatly made little fun vid. Heres hoping hollywood ever makes a mechwarrior movie with some good effecst and a decent plot.
I've decided that once I get out of the military and into college, hopefully with a degree in film arts or studies, I am going to make a BT movie, if nobody else has by that time. Trilogy based off the Blood of Kerensky series sound good?
I find myself not attracted to BattleTech. The whole concept is very, very good and the people behind it knew what they were doing. However, the universe is too complicated and the story is so much of a pure war epic that it just leaves out certain "grabbers" you see in a lot of animes. In any case, it still beats SEED for more reasons than I can describe.
The "complicated" you speak of is called politics, which basically mirrors exactly what the world is like today, only set in the future. The fact it is based a lot on war is because is called BATTLEtech, but there are quite a few instances where stories didn't even include very many battles or wars - a lot of it was done covertly, through spies, even stories of ordinary citizens on certain planets and how the constant wars affected their lives.
Actually, Fasa, the creators of Battletech were supposed to make a Robotech game, but lost the license to Paladium. So they decided to make Battletech using the origional Mech designs, changing the names. But after the owners of Robotech pitched a fit they changed the designs.. I stil miss the old ShadowCat it looked cool
Battletech actually licensed the mecha designs for most of its "original 16" from the anime houses whose work was eventually edited and exported to the US as "Robotech". The problem was that the makers of Robotech had already licensed the US rights for the designs in question.
Battletech owed a lot of its early popularity to Robotech's popularity, marketing such images as Roy Fokker's Veritech on the game's cover box art. Ultimately the game stood on its own, but it owes a debt to Macross.
Yep, Battletech is where I got my main interest in them. Apologies, I didn't know the ancient steam-punk walkers and others were also Mecha, though I suppose thats the proper term for them. In any case, if its fun its fun, if not move on :) And no, I was not saying this was briliant, the cartoon the quote came from was, from my point of view, sad. I would probably have loved it as a 5 year old though :)
Actually Mechwarrior games are based off Battletech, and if they ripped off anyone it was Robotech (silly of them, since their original designs show they had the artists even then to avoid that). In any case, Mecha are definately an anime-inspired thing, but I will always prefer the Battletech universe (at least the 3025 version... yeah, I'm ancient! :). Main thing though? If you enjoy it, its done its job. My .02 C-bills :)
"Mecha are definately an anime-inspired thing" You might want to change that around, as mecha has been around in scifi long before anime came about. Unless you ment the Battletech stuff then yes, you are right.
Actually there were several different "Mecha" animie's in Japan at the time and many used simular designs. The game was originally called Battledroids (directly translated from Japanese) but didnt take under that name so they changed it to Battletech. The initial mechs were all licensed from the same design house that made Macross, Harmony Gold later bought the rights to produce a more kid friendly version, hence Robotech. Battletech was out under its new name for two years BEFORE Robotech.
@WolfJenn it was obviously meant to be a fan trailer, it's not "fake" if it's meant to be a fan project. It'd be "fake" if it was a friggin Rick Roll.
its a combination of the audio fromt he old 80s cartoons and several mech vidoes. most of the live action was from the Dave School video made a couple years back and some cut scenes from teh games.
I watched this when I was A kid, loved the show so much. This is like going back in time. This was the reason I bought Battle Field 2142, just so i could play as the Mech warrior. Great stuff !
Anyone who sees this comment, understand something about the title/video.
He took the BattleTech cartoon opening and created a video for it using MechWarrior footage and parts from the College made movie.
Its a spoof, a recreation, an upgrade, whatever you want to call it.
And yes, MA1 and 2 were not true BattleTech games. MechWarrior isn't either, but its decently close and focuses on the mech warriors, exactly as its called.
The clip from 0:43-0:44 is from a mid-90s TV show called "Seaquest DSV". It is from the episode, "Play Time" in the second season, in which they get pulled 200-ish years in the future and find humanity pretty much wiped out by a game in which people pilot mechs remotely and fight them to the death - the pilot dies if their mech is destroyed, despite the remote control. There are only two teenage kids left when they find them, and they are battling to the death.
yeah, this isnt the series. there was an actual tv series (an anime) set during the clan invasion, but they had to cut it short cause of copyright issues with macross/robotech since some of the designs are similar or were taken directly, ie marauder, rifleman, and most of the light mechs.
Hey I like Gundam and Mechwarrior. If it weren't for Gundam there would be no Mechwarrior. But considering the emo, bishonen, yaoi-fangirl bait of the current generation of Gundam pilots, and the fact that Gundam 00 mechs use some kind of solar powered pixie dust, I think I'll take to the upcoming Mechwarrior game while I satisfying myself with Mechcommander.
It wasn't anime, it was more tradional/CGI saturday morning cartoon. Also battletech had ther right to use them from one company but another had the right to use them as toys. They argued that battletech was toy.
Mechwarrior tv series? lol no this is footage from various mw games and the 5 minute video made by an independent college instead of the mw movie. The sound is from the intro of a nineties mw cartoon series.
Mech assault is lame... its so un-canonized those who play that first think the CBT is a spin off of it. Please understand where your precious mechassault came from maybe you'll understand why some look down on it.
no, The Mad Cat is what the Inner Sphere named the clan Timber Wolf, they are the exact same thing, no difference at all, the Mad cat is what the inner sphere calls it, the timber wolf is the original clan name.
This is epic! However, you could have used some of the mechcommander intro. Or even placed the entire mechcommander intro after this opening, as an episode!!
After two and a half years, this video STILL fires up my old Battletech mentalities. It remains easily one of the top ten BT-related videos on YouTube IMNSHO.
If anyone wants the original battletech series from back in the day PM me and I'll seed a torrent and send you a link as soon as I get my broadband back up (about a week)
excelente video, con la intro original de battletech mas escenas de mechwarrior 4 y la pelicula de mechwarrior...a todo esto...alquien sabe como va el desarrollo del filme???...saludos
This isn't BattleTech. It uses a few images from the MechWarrior games and has the opening audio from the CBT cartoon, but most of the CGI images in there are a fan-made project that has no bearing on CBT at all.
Ah yes, the intro speech from the short lived Animated Series with clips from the Mechwarriors games- this would make such a kick ass movie. Why oh why Hollywood is nobody trying to make this into a blockbuster film?
Anyone know what that silver mech that gets blown up is? I looks vaguely like a Crab or King Crab but the pods on top are giving my recogniztion system fits.
4/5 I really liked the idea and kinda did something like this but not as complex. The only thing that bothered me was the lack of syncing to the action towards the last 1/2 of the clip otherwise great job. Very creative to combine all the footage together from different sources into one theme.
Imagine what they could do now with a decent budget, good actors, good script and a director who knew a PPC from his elbow could do for a movie. It'd be a huge hit for Mecha fans and old school Battletech lovers everywhere.
Why not an Ultra AC 20? Seems more destructive to hit something with those shells rather than watch it get vaporized by molecule sized particles.... Hmmm, I can here the earth shattering boom already...
I don't see anything in the centre(must be related to Centrifugal why else is the R before the E changing not only the enunciation but also the meaning of the word) of the ship, however the symbol has nothing to do with the republic of the sphere which BTW never existed in the original Fasa universe, unless Wizkids put it into their crappy version after they bought and then raped it, It looks more like Ghost bear to me, only other one that uses those colors and a circle is Com Star.
As much as I dislike what WizKids did to the FASA Battletech universe they are right. That's a Republic of the Sphere insignia on what I `think` is an Overlord class dropship.
Look at the centre of the dropship. See that circle, below the turret; there's a small blue circle there, with a while line going down from the centre.
0:45 - If I remember my science fiction correctly, that Mecha was originally part of a SeaQuest episode, when they were flung into the future of a humanless Earth.
In one way, you're right. This is just a live action version by the poster or whomever, of the original BattleTech cartoon that was released in the early 90s.
I believe what I was replyign to was about a pilot for the BattleTech 'television' series, not the game. If I'm mistaken, then I apologise. If I'm right, then let's forget and move on.
Katrina Steiner was assasinated by her daughter, then her daughter was deposed. BTW: Smith and Tinker bought the rights to mechwarrior/Battletech(ALong with the old FASA games CrimsonSkies and Shadowrun). Smith&Tinker is owned by the creators of Battletech..>So it may work out decent and tehre is "Moderate" hope there WILL be a new Mechwarrior.
ya the battle tech name is fading because it keeps getting sold to bad companies who don't realize its potential and just end up making it look worse. The last good thing to come out of it was MechWarrior 2.
Stackpole actually did a good job with the novels he wrote. He helped fabric the continuity of the old BT universe. This current shit by Wizkids really sucks. It's not Battletech anymore but some other queer ass shit trying to capitalise on the click figurine crap.
You are way off. The audio is not from the 80's. This is actually from the cartoon television series that aired in '99 and the early 2000s. This is the character of "Adam Steiner" speaking during every episodes intro. He piloted an Axeman and was the leader of the 1st Somerset Strikers. This unit was made up for the show.
Yeah, And as of 3070 (20 Years after the series) he is the leader of the Lyran Alliance (In effect anyway) what with being General of the Armies (Top Dog in the Military) and since the Archon is gone he is in charge.
No, She wasnt assasinated. Katrina Steiner died peacefuly and Katherine Steiner-Davion (Who went by her Grandmother's name quite often) was deposed by her Brother Victor Steiner-Davion and was exiled into the Clans (Clan Wolf). Later she became a Clan Warrior.
little error, the "heroes" of Battletech Series are from the Inner Sphere no clans, and the Mad Cats and Vulture appears in the start scenes.

You can find it here but if you want the high quality version, just google it.
Bapman2099 3 years ago
The mech is a Dark Ages Atlas.
Firekisser 3 years ago
Gotta love the opening but too bad it won't be on tv.
GameXQZ 3 years ago 3
a mechwarrior movie would be to awesome. but it would like have to be a trilogy. because they cant possible cram a good plot into a mere 120 minutes
Aprion 3 years ago
It could be like the new age Star Wars.
DAMN... that would sooo rock!
Bapman2099 3 years ago
Awesome. Epic. Words can't describe this enough.
freakystyleyfunker 3 years ago
Ah yes, the intro speech from the short lived Animated Series with clips from the Mechwarriors games- this would make such a kick ass movie. Why oh why Hollywood is nobody trying to make this into a blockbuster film?
SlimTwisted 3 years ago
Actually Dean Davlin [Independence Day, Stargate, Flyboys] is trying to turn this into a movie.
The student film 'Mechwarrior: Age of Destruction' was made for him to show investors.
Bapman2099 3 years ago
You are correct about Dean working on doing something with MechWarrior, but very much not about Age of Destruction being used for investors :-)

Anyone know what that silver mech that gets blown up is? I looks vaguely like a Crab or King Crab but the pods on top are giving my recogniztion system fits.
Firekisser 3 years ago
or Age of Destruction...

Not a fan of the darkage stuff..
flemw1234 3 years ago 4
4/5 I really liked the idea and kinda did something like this but not as complex. The only thing that bothered me was the lack of syncing to the action towards the last 1/2 of the clip otherwise great job. Very creative to combine all the footage together from different sources into one theme.
ecpeter 3 years ago 3
Babylon 5 level budget meets Battletech universe.
Discuss.
wonderboy2402 3 years ago 2
Epic, godly TV show meets incredible, detailed sci-fi universe.
I came.

DUDE AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need a Mechwarrior motion picture NOW!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best videos I have seen on YouTube
vunak2000 3 years ago
Imagine what they could do now with a decent budget, good actors, good script and a director who knew a PPC from his elbow could do for a movie. It'd be a huge hit for Mecha fans and old school Battletech lovers everywhere.
Firekisser 3 years ago 3
Hell, screw a movie.... make it a Live Action TV show!
Firekisser 3 years ago
I agree i think they should make a series. The books are really good

I want to blow up the local DMV with a PPC

Why not an Ultra AC 20? Seems more destructive to hit something with those shells rather than watch it get vaporized by molecule sized particles.... Hmmm, I can here the earth shattering boom already...

Exalent job 10/10 I think I might play MW4M sometime infact I think il play for a bit after i get a snack lol

I think they had a movie called battle tech. Big mechwarriors would fight and it was for controleing pieces of earth
Wanzerman123 3 years ago
I don't see anything in the centre(must be related to Centrifugal why else is the R before the E changing not only the enunciation but also the meaning of the word) of the ship, however the symbol has nothing to do with the republic of the sphere which BTW never existed in the original Fasa universe, unless Wizkids put it into their crappy version after they bought and then raped it, It looks more like Ghost bear to me, only other one that uses those colors and a circle is Com Star.
sypoth 3 years ago
As much as I dislike what WizKids did to the FASA Battletech universe they are right. That's a Republic of the Sphere insignia on what I `think` is an Overlord class dropship.
Firekisser 3 years ago
many of these clips are from the opening to mech4 vengeance. Personally, that was my favorite mech-related video.
Rynx214 3 years ago
Those dropships at 0:14 were from the Republic of the Sphere.
RedFenril 3 years ago
How can you tell? They have no markings or insignia of any kind to indicate who they belong to.
gribae 3 years ago
Look at the centre of the dropship. See that circle, below the turret; there's a small blue circle there, with a while line going down from the centre.
That's the Republic of the Sphere's insignia.
RedFenril 3 years ago
Perhaps it is because of the poor video quality, that it looked more like just apart of the Dropship to me.
gribae 3 years ago
0:45 - If I remember my science fiction correctly, that Mecha was originally part of a SeaQuest episode, when they were flung into the future of a humanless Earth.
gribae 3 years ago
man... just one more reason why the 90's was the coolest decade ever...
bark00000 3 years ago
this was actually a pilot for a series in the 90's if i remember right
malachoi 3 years ago
In one way, you're right. This is just a live action version by the poster or whomever, of the original BattleTech cartoon that was released in the early 90s.
gribae 3 years ago
Actually the original Battletech game was released in 1985.
Perykvaal 3 years ago
I believe what I was replyign to was about a pilot for the BattleTech 'television' series, not the game. If I'm mistaken, then I apologise. If I'm right, then let's forget and move on.
gribae 3 years ago
I wonder, what clip you 'borrowed' to portray some yobbo kid in the shoes of Adam Steiner?
gribae 3 years ago
Katrina Steiner was assasinated by her daughter, then her daughter was deposed. BTW: Smith and Tinker bought the rights to mechwarrior/Battletech(ALong with the old FASA games CrimsonSkies and Shadowrun). Smith&Tinker is owned by the creators of Battletech..>So it may work out decent and tehre is "Moderate" hope there WILL be a new Mechwarrior.
MosinM38 3 years ago
Nice editing, you took the crappy cartoon intro and made into something much better!!
ecpeter 3 years ago
what i hered is that mechwarrior5 was cancelled and what they made so far was built into mechassault
mechmaster001 3 years ago
ya the battle tech name is fading because it keeps getting sold to bad companies who don't realize its potential and just end up making it look worse. The last good thing to come out of it was MechWarrior 2.
splatwacker 3 years ago
I agree 110%
MetaVita 3 years ago
MechWarrior 3 and MW4: Mercenaries were good, just not as good as MW2.
FMAfan241 3 years ago 2
Stackpole actually did a good job with the novels he wrote. He helped fabric the continuity of the old BT universe. This current shit by Wizkids really sucks. It's not Battletech anymore but some other queer ass shit trying to capitalise on the click figurine crap.
flashlantern 3 years ago 2
You are way off. The audio is not from the 80's. This is actually from the cartoon television series that aired in '99 and the early 2000s. This is the character of "Adam Steiner" speaking during every episodes intro. He piloted an Axeman and was the leader of the 1st Somerset Strikers. This unit was made up for the show.
flashlantern 3 years ago
Yeah, And as of 3070 (20 Years after the series) he is the leader of the Lyran Alliance (In effect anyway) what with being General of the Armies (Top Dog in the Military) and since the Archon is gone he is in charge.
Go Adam Steiner!
VhenRaTheRaptor 3 years ago
Yeah, didn't someone assassinate Archon Katrina Steiner? (I think, actually, by irony, one of her relatives did.)
jregley 3 years ago
No, She wasnt assasinated. Katrina Steiner died peacefuly and Katherine Steiner-Davion (Who went by her Grandmother's name quite often) was deposed by her Brother Victor Steiner-Davion and was exiled into the Clans (Clan Wolf). Later she became a Clan Warrior.
VhenRaTheRaptor 3 years ago
Hehe the clip at 0:44 was from seaquest dsv. Kids in an vr-chair controlled them.
*Sigh* still waiting for Mechwarrior 5!!!!!!

I'm still waiting too. we can only hope
brutalsun 3 years ago
For those of us who know. The audio is from the old 80's (yes 80's) series but the vids are from diff clips found online :p
but still. awesome vid. Gives us all hope that it will come back some day.

I got the 3rd edition of the Compendium... I think it was published around 1993..
MasterEiji 3 years ago
This is great.
I would love if they brought back the series, heck it is what got me into Mechwarrior in the first place.
Of course they would have to update and correct it.
