  • Well it is nice to see New Order finally have some sort of direction to their career going.

  • wow ..so geil .............i love New Order

  • With such tasty bass licks I'd be humping my bass guitar aswell.

  • Less then Zero

  • I'm going to reiterate what I said in my last comment. This video is, by definition, SATIRE. New Order is poking fun at the glam rock horseshit that was coming out at the time. They weren't trying a new look. They weren't changing the style of their music to get more fans. They were having fun at the expense of the popular music of the mid to late 80's. Anyone who can't see that may need some remedial schooling in life, culture, music and most things that people understand before the age of 6.

  • @lesheifner You tell em haha... If anyone takes this seriously they're definitely a little slow

  • ...just perfect

  • he seems to want her back pretty bad. damn.

  • I meant to write something along the lines of how ugly they look in this video. But then I noticed that somehow Gillian managed to be as gorgeous as always.

  • tren al sur

  • Sorry Gillian,I didn't know.

  • hooky is awesome. listen to this song closely on your mp3 player or ipod - youtube does not do justice to the beauty of the bass lines in this song.

  • Good job directing a funny video for a great song, Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow.

  • You never looked at me in a sexual way in your life before?Even if you did,I would have never ever minded it at all.(lol)I just love this song eversince I could remember.I wish I could go back to the 80's.Long live the 80's!!!!

  • @MsAsianfusion he points to gillian when he says that

  • @vaadaenmacchi Oh crap!(LOL)

  • 16 demons wasnt touched by the hand of god.

  • Thats Roob Gretton taking a bow at the end

  • bill paxton looks so young in this video...:D

  • this is like the best music video ever

  • eddi van hooky

  • TOO GOOD a music, 80s , speechless.........!!!!

  • 80s.. surely the best and most positive music...

  • @sepptonia thats the spirit

  • @sepptonia

Well yeah, that's the bottomline of it although he didn't especially have to die. Just buggering off was sufficient.

  • @sepptonia what a prick you are

  • i think its a hipster thing really to trash new order for forming after the death of ian curtis, there is not a single hipster idiot who doesnt wanna look like the biggest curtis/jd fan, but since they know absolutley nothing about their music, apart from the fact that they heard ''shes lost control'' and ''love will tear us apart'' and that they own an unknown pleasures tshirt, they need to make statements like those to look hip, all jd/new order fans, ignore those idiots, cheers

  • Can't there be a single NO vid without any boring JD / NO discussion? Please, people stop this nonsense, thanks!

  • This song was also used for a Sunkist commercial!!

  • Hilarious xD

  • This is the song that was playing over the theater's sound system just before I walked down the aisle at my wedding - completely by accident.

"I was touched by the hand of God ... I never knew it, but of course I was."

It still gives me the same chills it did then - 23 years ago.

When I'm really angry or frustrated being married, I play this song, and remember why I made the choice. It helps put all the daily shit into perspective.

  • @lithead thats class mate well done

  • just watch and listen

  • Great song, fun video, but judging from the comments on here, I guess there's no room for both metal and "talented and spiritual" New Order music? There's only so much space in the world of rock n roll that Hair Metal took up New Order's space? lol ridiculous.

  • @MCas1970 I was just thinking that, I mean how many Def Leppard fans would have liked New Order if leppard hadn't shown up? it's ridiculous now I think about it.

  • ha ha ha now i know what they really mean. YOUR PARENTS ARE THE GOD FIGURE IN YOUR LIFE! let go of the GOD concept.

  • I am horny for that girl with the keyboard. Always was when it was realeased back in the 80's.

  • @Muazin1000 ive never looked at her in a sexual way

  • epic lirics . . .

  • Some of the greatest 80s bands I have always liked to lIsten to their music !!

  • 14 bon jovi fans cant find their hairspray :/

  • Well could that be RED?

  • great song - great pharody of Heavy metal dinosaors.

  • This video was just a dig back at metal bands that took the piss out of bands like New Order.More or less it was make fun of us,right back at ya.

  • soo, I have tried to figure out what is the meaning of the lyrics, whats the point? I love this song and I like when I cant figure out a meaning for lyrics

  • hair bands bunch of posers and their music sucked.

  • @chacho6011 man, are you stupid! YOUR LACK OF INTELLECT SUCKS!

  • Hilarious! Great B Side, and they make fun of hair bands.....can't stop laughing.

  • this shit is hard

  • 14 IDIOTS

  • @philokiko probably they were touched by the hand of devil !

  • @84heroes1 well said!

  • There's a big difference between studying music history and learning about music history. Next time you study something try and learn about it, that way you may not feel compelled to write nonsense on here.

  • @SkankExpose The costumes they were wearing and an image are also similar to these used by people of Glam's wave

  • @yosarian466

Ignore 84heroes. I thought the same thing you did when seeing this video. It harkens back to glam rock as well, like The Sweet.

  • The Virgin Mary was "touched by the hand of God".

  • "TALENTED, SPIRITUAL bands like New Order"? Talented, perhaps, but spiritual? Joy Division is still a million times better.

  • @puzleboy Joy Division isn't spiritual either.

  • @canuck21 "Atmosphere" is spiritual to me, as well as several other of JD's tunes. I find them a good deal more moving than New Order. Then again, it's all opinion anyway. Musical appreciation isn't like math. There are no absolutes.

  • @puzleboy I agree, this is not math and to each his own. "Atmosphere" is a real special song that evokes deep emotions in me, but it's still not spiritual. I guess it's because spiritual means something else to me. JD songs are somber and NO are more upbeat, but NO songs move me as much but in a different way. "True Faith" means a lot to me, but in my own interpretation (I never tried drugs); it brings out as much feeling as "Atmosphere". "Your Silent Face" is very soothing which no JD songs do.

  • @puzleboy Basically, JD's tunes are more romantic in general and NO's are more down to earth. I relate more to NO's lyrics (when I know what they mean LOL) than to JD's. My state of mind is simply far from Ian Curtis'; I'm for of a "Regret" type of person.

  • Shake your groove thang, Bernard! New Order is awesome!

  • so wonderful, New Order rules!!

  • I had heard Blue Monday, but this was the first time I've seen the band, when this video played out TOTP. Very strange experience...that New Order band, in my head was now synonymous with metalic over-cacks. The Baywatch themed Regret appearance is a goodun as well

  • \m/ DEATH TO FALSE METAL \m/

  • @NoblyRotten , show me the real metal.

  • @sumyoungguy101

I feel you missed my humor ;o)

Check out Monochrome on my channel if you think I'd 'diss' New Order :o)

  • This parody is so good some stupid people thought this was real *lol*

  • Metal!!!

  • the world need more order.. wait, NEW order :)

  • The video was directed by Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) and featured a young Bill Paxton.

    Sub my channel

  • TRINITY / OFFLINE / BASE 80s Funk Zeiten in HAMBURG

und Lights ELMSHORN (Mi Fr Sa + So:-)

  • @SkankExpose I've never studied music history...and I love this video too.

  • barney looks like, rod stewart here

  • The first time I saw this music video back more than 20 years ago,I thought,"this is a new wave-synth pop-post punk era band, dressed in hard rockin' heavy metalers!"

  • that was the music is good

  • is it me or does Peter Hook look quite comfortable with a cod piece :)

  • @Airwaves1914

The rest of the band wore costumes,

Hooky just came as he was.

  • @Airwaves1914 Lets face it , he would look comfortable with ANY cod piece, maybe a glowing red one???!! Truly great track though.

  • late 80s uk traffic u can't beat that shit.

  • Wow, I don't know who those guys are in the video but looks like they'd be a whole lot more fun than this band who recorded this dirge.... I particularly like it when they explode. Maybe new Order should try that, this sounds like Teletubbies on lemonade!

  • @consternation6 huh? the gys in the vid are new order. And sonny jim, if you knew muscal history you'd know how they influenced it. Saying that..this was their most pop-worst tune. Love you.

  • @Airwaves1914 What's New Order's worst pop tune? If you ask me, it's "Jetstream"; I can't stand that awful song. I cringe every time I hear it and it's even worse when I see the video.

  • @consternation6 Come on, it's a good pop song. Nothing ground-braking or deep, but it's a fun tune. It has a good catchy melody and that is my main requirement for a good song.

You really don't know New Order? Believe it or not, they're a pretty influential band, at times even innovative when they want to. They're also very interesting; you rarely find a band with more history than New Order.

  • you too can have hair like this! All is not lost. First wet your hair and towel dry it to where it is just damp. take one full can of mousse and use it liberally. For harder to control hair use two cans. This is the tricky part. Prop up a hair dryer somehow and turn it on full blast toward your head. This is the painful part. Stick your toe in the closest electrical socket and hold til hair is completely dry! When done cover yourself in some body spray to get rid of the burned smell!!!

  • ha ha jon bon eat yer heart oot

  • okay cool

  • one thing i like about this band is they rarely put the title of their songs in the lyrics. this is just one of those rare occations.

  • this is the funny side of NO. Watching this video who have thought that they came from the gloomy band Joy Division, Ian Curtis is a very troubled guy and a genious at the same time. The rest of the guys tried to change the image when Ian committed suicide but you can still feel his anger & frustration in their songs.

  • @nordg1 new order could never escape the tragedy, only accept it...it's what makes their music kinda edgy and touch lots of people (no pun intended).

  • looks like 13 hair metal fans are not pleased.

  • lol this is a satire to Bon Jovi :P

  • One of my favourite tunes of NO. Awesome! And the video is funny.

  • They don't make them like this anymore..

  • @ukbiggz666 uh YES THEY DO!!!!!

  • dont take the piss out of da metal sonny!!!

  • I'm amazed that the director had Gillian Gilbert in that outfit, but spent most of the time pointing the camera at Peter Hook's codpiece. A missed opportunity there.

  • @AshleyMarkPomeroy lmao i like the way you think.

  • are they making fun of kiss in this video? back of Bernie's vest "Ace"?

  • Mr. Sumner, you WERE touched by the hand of God indeed. Of course you were. And God definitely blessed New Order with a pure pop genius.

  • Is the same sample used in Afrika Bambata & UB40 song "Reckless"?

  • Cannot unsee Peter's pelvic thrust

  • @SkankExpose Nice comment but I don't think that NO 'dominated' the mid 80's. PWL dominated the 80's, Duran Duran a bit of it..NO has always been sort of an underground and cool pop band. The problem was that some rockers of the 80's felt that THEY were on the right side..and the rest was shit..

  • another 1

  • Stephen Morris could pass as Tommy Lee Jones in that getup.

  • Kudos for gettin tha vid for this..respectus..woz a fave ov mine gettin thru skool in tha 80's..;-))

  • Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Poison, it's a satire of all the late seventies / eighties groups like that

  • They are taking the piss out of Poison surely ?

  • The dumb Americans thought this was for real!!! Any idiot could see they were taking the piss.

  • touched by the hand of cicciolina ;-)

  • A song that belongs in my every day thoughts.

  • love the video, I think Barney looked so cute with the wig and rock gear the song is brilliant

  • WTF with their hair/wig?!?! haha i think ian would love this

  • Love this song, but good Lord I hope that keytair is part of the irony thing!

  • Gillian's wig is the best.

  • One of the greatest bands ever. Great use of technical resources, and i dig the wigs.

  • oh, the irony :)

  • joyritr@aol.com; mousiemom2003@yahoo.com; luv2bowl68@comcast.net

  • One of the best fucking songs ever. You rock New Order. Michigan State University Graduate here. God bless you Anne, Stacie, Joy and Stewart. Love you. Eric Stiven -The Pizza Evader.

  • Hookys balls are touched by bass

  • Classic!!!!!

  • What is Hooky doing? Playing bass or making love to it?

  • @fassaalbrecht With the tunes Hooky can make, no wonder he wants to hump his bass!

  • many bands have followed this satirical style of video clip.. these guys are to cool

  • Bernie looks HOT in the Bon Jovi wig ! It's so funny watching his wild side, even though I prefer the shy, quiet, standing still, closed eyed, Bernard ! :)

  • uh???

  • great song, funny video. get over it.

  • Funny Video. Good song too.

  • If anything this is a parody of bands like Hanoi Rocks with a little bit of Van Halen thrown in for good measure.

  • worst song by new order.

  • I like this song but not the other versions... the production of the newer versions really ruins it. And the video kicks major ass.

  • I too like this song! Forgot about it until I heard it on 1stwave - xm.

  • I am a New Order fan, and I can say without a doubt....this song sucks

  • @Nocturne2 Its not a New Order song. Yet I dont think it sucks because its a non New Order song by New Order.

This song was a joke and a reaction to the strange "big hair" thing hardrock and metal music was going through back then.

  • @Nocturne2

WHy does this song "suck"? I think it is a great tune with great lyrics (love, lust and football) and its played well. The video is a joke...Get over it. You are a troll.

  • video, or song? the song is in a typical new order song. i wouldnt see why you hate it. @Nocturne2

  • @Nocturne2 right.

  • Why isn't Hooky wearing a silly costume?

  • @ady10001 He's doing pelvic thrusts instead.

  • Such a hilarious video. I almost turned it off thinking there was some mistake. Then I recognized the boys under all that lame glam. This song has power that makes it a sleeper song. It never did get the respect it merited.

  • Peter looks hilarious with that wig!

    Awesome song.

  • Touched by the hand of Maradona?

  • Love the song! And the video is hilarious!

  • hello again...i do get it...i think you should relax a bit. This type of music i just too synthetic to enjoy....it no Planet P Project

  • @itsallgoodtoo To synthetic......That is the point with synthesizers but, synthetic sounds are just as badass and bands like this proved it so. If its not your taste they used to be called joy division and they had a less synthetic sound.

  • @itsallgoodtoo Not it isn't Planet P Project, thank goodness. Planet P Project sounds so awfully dated. Some New Order songs are heavy in synths but even then they sound more contemporary than Planet P Project. Listen to songs like Everything's Gone Green. That's electronic that still sounds new and unique until today.

  • @canuck21 thanks for the new song i never heard...just to let you know this is not my style of music but i am open to it all. More of a metal head but i respect good music and there is something to this music.

  • @itsallgoodtoo How much do you know of New Order? I'm not much of an electronic music fan anymore but I do love New Order. They're just a different kind of electronic band, they're more organic than the others. The reason probably because of their roots. These guys (minus the female) used to be a punk band. Have a listen to Interzone - Warsaw (Joy Division). Their singer was the late Ian Curtis, a true poet.

  • my favourite song of all time.

    #1 - no questions asked.

  • Oh..Bernie in a wig and tight pants..thank you God.

  • N.O.rules

  • Fantastic!

  • yes, K Bigelow did direct this satirical debuncle, and the young runner is reported to be young Bill Paxton

  • stoniq you gotta understand that my comment was written with love and care about music...think about this...does the director make the vid good or does the band need said talent to make something that it isnt...at least it is not lady gaga... thats a whole other story

  • Anyone who doesn't realize that this is satire is seriously educationally subnormal.

  • @lesheifner - my 10-year old daughter wouldn't realize that this is satire... does that make her 'seriously educationally subnormal'? you're ignorant.

  • @nootron9 Admittedly, I messed up with that comment. I forgot to mention that I'm educationally subnormal as well.

  • @nootron9 No. Your 10-year-old daughter is ten years old. (Perhaps 11 now.) If she gets a good upbringing, she'll understand what satire is, or at least what it seems to be.

  • @lesheifner The irony is by 1989 New Order had themselves become a stale copy of other music. Talk about throwing stones from a glass house!

  • @ajdicks Yeah but at least they didn't look like they are in this video. Their music may have regressed but they never looked like clowns.

  • @lesheifner You mean people take this at a literal value?

  • Comment removed

  • @lesheifner NOT a satire moron. You're a pseudo intellectual bullshitter.

  • @SuperSweaterVest The definition of satire: "The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices." If you can't see that in this video, I wouldn't recommend reading The Onion.

  • @SuperSweaterVest Hmmmmm. Satire: "The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices" Hopefully you're being satirical.

  • @lesheifner Not really. The norm nowadays is to be a fucking moron anyway.

  • @lesheifner Lol i 'm agree.Good times..

  • @lesheifner educationally subnormal? what a 'educationally subnormal' choice of vocabulary

  • @14istheluckynumber I actually borrowed that phrase from Ricky Gervais. Perhaps you should tell him what you think.

  • @lesheifner that explains it then.

  • Their video for Perfect Kiss was directed by Oscar winning director Jonathan Demme. So two oscar winning directors behind their vids. There's one to impress yer mates this Friday over a few pints and a bag o dry roasted!
