wow yeah that was back in my days i remember my first cabbage patch doll wow! i got it in 1982 all the little girls would carry them all over the stores and in public.
We had several Zayre's stores in MA. I remember them fondly. Then they became Ames and Ames didn't change the signs for a while. I still remember where most of the departments were located!
I was born in Chicago in 72...I remember going to Zayres with my mom and she bought me a Merlin by Parker Brothers. I am now 36 and I still have it to this day. The only thing wrong with it...I misplaced the battery cover. Do you guys remember the other store Chicago had back in the day...VENTURE??

I worked at a Zayre store in Illinois in the '70's, and I WAS NOT the person tearing the heads off the Barbie dolls!

@dominothug
ventures,zayres, woolsworth, and service merchandise
Kmart is the only one still around.

@taledarkside Service Merchandise isn't completely gone. The last of the stores closed down in 2002 but
the name and logo were bought at an auction by Raymond Zimmerman who re launched the company
as an On-line Only Web Store in 2004.
