This video was not removed once the auction ended. You SIR, are a lying sack of shit. Take this video down immediately. Do it NOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had one for years, rock solid reliable, but it was in perfect shape. Any old gear may suffer from poor maintenance. Sun Ra used to play one onstage!
I have a DS-2 that's been running like a champ for years.....but....there's a strange thing with the potentiometers where the entire range of the knob is compressed to about 2/10ths of what it should be! So for instance on my LFO's the rate doesn't change from 1 to 7, and then suddenly dramatically speeds up between 8 and ten. I really like doing live modulation, so this drives me crazy! I've talked to some other users who have this same issue. Has anybody figured this out?
I had a DS-2 in the mid 80's and I must honestly say, it had a feature I've never seen in any other synth and that was the complex LFO mixer section. I had a blast in working with that to create some very unique sounds. However, I bought it used and shortly after I purchased it, the polyphonic section failed. It would cut in and out and also, the oscillator drift was very annoying. I tried to get it fixed, but no one could fix it without the schematics. I sold it to a friend for parts.
The chassis was built like a tank but I think the quality of the electronic components and soldering were suspect. The main issues with this particular synth were tiny solder bridges that caused components to fail and cold solder joints.
My best discovery was running the poly output into a phaser and patching it back into the synth filter. nice...
i had this model., in 84. and it was the worst machine i had in my life. I was well built, and with a lot of opportunities in creating sounds and bass tracks but it suffered a lot of pitch loosing.. it was well known to go out of key.. poor crumar,,
"Reliability" ... just look out for a good technician who knows those things from the 70ies and 80ies - people who are able to repair old elka, farfisa or yamaha organs are FIRST CHOICE for that
FYI: This is possibly one of the most unreliable synths when found on the used market! Models almost always have failed components in either the monosynth or polysynth stages. Most frequently encountered are failures of one or both DCOs, or the entire polysynth stage in of itself. Purchase of a DS-2 can be a VERY risky proposition!
What's good about it then? Well it has two nice LFOs, one with S&H and staircase waveforms. You can use either or both LFOs for modulation of Osc 1, Osc 2, VCF and the VCA. Pulse-width can be set manually or modulated by either LFO. The VCF is killer, it has a nice Moog sound in it that fattens up the sound. The two ADSRs are very fast so there's no problem making bass and drum sounds with it.
The DCO's on this one seem fine to me so I'd say tough luck snapdust :P
Thank you for letting this video after auction (contrary to what is written at the begining)! You posted the only two video on all google video (which means on youtube and many more).
NOOOOOOOOO don't take it down, i'm kidding.
Hey, who cares if omeone leaves a video up or not? It can be beneficial in a search for such an instrument to those looking, not necessarily to buy.
