Fantastic song. Always wanted to hear from some expert. Between Madhuvanthi and Revathi there seems to be no agreement. I have heard that this is ragam Kalyana Vasantham. I dont want to add to confusion. Can some expert say what this raga is.

to all of u who wanna abt this song..once when purandara dasa went for bhiksha to a poor house, the ppl there were hesitating to offer ragi as bhiksha to a such a great man...as they could not afford any better. So Purandara dasa sang this song highlighting the importance of ragi and his readiness to accept ragi as an offering.

No. It is Madhuvanthi. One of my favorite ragas. It is a derivative raga of Dharmavathi.

meaning of the phrases GURUTHIGE BAHORANTHAVARU+AAGI AND KHARI KHARE SANSARAVA NEETHAVARU+AAGI respectively is one who has recognised himself and one who has lived a befitting life. It is an address to people though capable are stingy in their offerings to needy. The pun is on the word RAAGI WHICH is considered as poor man's staple food cereal.
