What do you mean by "walk on" performance?

"Walk on," is a theatrical term loosely meaning a very good short role. I don't know the idiomatic origins of it. In television sitcoms it generally refers a role that uses a character not featured in the show's regular cast.

Usage examples:

"Are you auditioning for that show."

"No, it's a terrible play, but there's this great walk-on for a older man."

Or,

"Did you see Wilfred Brimley in that film? That walk-on practically stole the film."
