After you kicked in the right rudder (just before touchdown) I think a bit more left aileron would have kept the airplane from turning its nose back into the wind.. Other than that good landing. My personal xwind top was 26 kt cross with a 33 kt wind in a C-150.. Mountain area..
*Ladies and gentlemen we shall soon be landing at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, if you had looked to your left you wouldve been able to see the Grand Canyon. However it is 10.25pm at night and dark, please enjoy your future journey safely and thank you for flying Delta*
Lmao!! Have always remembered that!! So made me laugh and still does!!!
@fabriciorechy You are absolutely correct. I have been waiting for someone to comment on that bit of poor editing on my part. You win the prize! We are indeed turning final - not base. Admittedly, I realize now that the video would be more enjoyable to watch without the silly banners all together.
@twodragoons Ya, a couple at the start would be fine; a video with no information is sometimes just as irritating. The quality and perception angle of the video is truly outstanding though.
For a moment there, I was about to call it out as say that is was not McCarren International, but Henderson Executive. However at the last few seconds of the video, some of the surroundings gave it away. I walk the recreational trails next to Henderson Executive all the time.
Well done. I, as a private pilot and glider pilot, hate crosswind landings, doubly hate gusty crosswinds, and despite being certified really need to spend some serious time with an instructor on them.
@joepatroni77 You are probably right. "Extreme" certainly is a relative word when considering the broad range of experience out there. My hat is off to those of you who operate routinely in poor conditions. One with relatively few hours in the seat (which is the case here) can only aspire to that level of seasoned experience. Until then - this feels somewhat "extreme" to those with less exposure. I cannot help but wonder what conditions my rig could handle in more experienced hands.
Oddly, I don't think this operating handbook has a published maximum demonstrated crosswind (at least that I can find). We have never tested the control authority to thier "limits" in this rig. That is the stuff of test pilots. Our ability as pilots is one thing. What these old birds can handle from an engineering standpoint is another. In the hands of a more experienced and skilled pilot, I assume this old bird could handle much more than what we experienced here.
Very Nice Job..those crosswinds there and in New Mexico are really bad at times..was a passenger flying into New Mexico as part of a news team during the Los Alamos Fire and
despite the pilots best efforts we ended up being blown off the runway and into the brush, no one hurt, no damage..but they closed the airport for the day after that ( was a small aircraft, single runway muni airport )
Looks fun.Good aileron correction into the wind after touchdown. One time I accidentally removed my aileron correction after a crosswind touchdown. The plane started to bounce toward the right.I decided to do an immediate go-around.Taught me the importance of aileron correction after a crosswind landing.
Just a tip, if you lose the centre line in the flare keep the plane moving straight down the runway at the touch down point until taxi speed. Especially in a wind like this.
Wind speed was 20 gusting to 31 nearly direct crosswind. You can see the sock at about 2:30 standing straight out. I am pleased with how much rudder athority the twin cessna's have. It comes in handy as you can see with the kick just before t-down. Strong for a light twin.
hi nice video greetings friends
