Is there another place to buy the baskets besides Macy's? I want to support these beautiful & talented ladies, but I'm ashamed of Macy's and will never again shop there ... not for the baskets or anything else. Slave labor is right! Where ekse can we buy these?
Macy's = slave labor selling the baskets for $100 and the women get $1-5 ok so they learn a skill but they should not use charity to promote low wage labor
I just checked the Macy's site and they're selling the baskets for 46 dollars to 75 dollars and up. If the cost of the raw materials (according to Joy's testimony) is 2 dollars, the women should be getting 14 to 24 dollars per basket. This doesn't take into account tax duties, which are fairly low for such items.
The stores do a 3x markup. So if these women are getting just five dollars per basket, this is truly an outrage & exploitation. Pay people what their products are worth!!
@MeAndHubbyToo I have been on the receiving end of Charitable causes in the past during hard times and it alwyas upset me so much to see how myself and other women were exploited for donations and recieved very little assistance to justify the donations taken in. I have also paid it forward and as a volunteer seen even more abuse of funds. .
