Love Siberia ! was near Ekaterinbourge this year, and love plimeni, spasiba for sharing plimeni recipe i'm making them for New Year day ! greedings from Greece
@ThomasJKH I made them once before using Morningstar Farms Meal Starters crumbles instead of the meat and it turned out well - not sure if you can get that where you live, though. Of course you could always experiment with different ingredients :)
I just add a touch of garlic to the meat. I would put 1 clove of garlic to the amount that she is making, also you can replace salt with garlic salt if you don't want to use garlic
P.S. If I ever hear someone say lets make a sauce for pelmeni or cover them with cheese of bacon I will COME THROUGH YOUR COMPUTER AND EAT YOUR BRAIN. DON'T FUCK with traditions. In Russian there are only one flavour for Pelmeni, "Pelmeni". And it has been like this for 100s of years, what that does that tell you?
@theking12372 it originated with the Komi people of the Ural mountains in Russia and has been cooked throughout Siberia and western Russia for many hundreds of years. The Komi are some of the original ethnically Russian people and the name of the food is derived from the word "пельнянь" which is a Komi word meaning "ear-bread". That's about as Russian as it can get.
@TonicMike yes your right about that pelmeni is from the komi people and the komi peaople arent ethnic russians the komi is actually from finland but pelmeni is from the komi people not russian its like saying galnish the traditional food of chechens is russian
@theking12372 oh I see. Well they lived in the Ural mountains and many Komi people still live in the area. They share the same ancestors as a lot of Russian citizens. Thanks for telling me about where they came from though, that was apparently left out when I learned about this in school.
Russian people do not make pelmeni at home. They are sold in the shops for $ 5 per kilogram.
PS fuc*ing stereotypes. We do not drink vodka all the time, do not play the balalaika with bears on the Red Square and our girls do not wear kakoshniki.
I never use eggs when making dough for pelmeni. Just flour, milk and salt. then squeeze it in your hands until it stops to stick to your fingers and you will get very manageable and elastic dough to make thin and tender "envelops" for pelmeni.
The first time i eat Pelmeni was when my boyfriend maked for me, and is so tasty and easy, now is my turn to make it i hope is the same delicious like he have make =)
I too love pelmeni but I don't add eggs in the dough but in the meat. One other thing, putting milk in the dough instead of water changes the original taste of pelmenis (I'm Russian) but then again the recipe changes depending on the region you live at. Anyway, it really is suuuuuuper delicious and unique (nothing like chinese bun). So everybody try it someday!! ^_^
I don't believe in marriage... and just because somebody drinks doesn't mean they are going to be an alcoholic ... and you spelled alcoholic wrong... its called spell check. Or a brain.
The pelmeni mold saves so much time and is well worth the purchase if you like to make pelmeni in large quantities. I used one and it's so much more convenient and quicker than to do it all by hand!
Russians have pierogi 2 which is baked as u pointed out. Pelemeni is like perogi but boiled and usually smaller, its an entirely different dish. But yeah, Russians and Poles share a lot of dishes in common :]
Very good video - but I think it is easier to buy them frozen rather than make them myself.

I'm from Russia and eat pelmeni

Yeah, that mold is wonderful invention!
But their site is down :(
BTW,
on eBay it’s possible to buy this mold,
here I found really cheap one:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170608215538
Looks like it takes about 10 days to ship to US.
I have already ordered it!
I will need this video soon - it's excellent "How-To" manual :)
