The glass of the CRT, along with the conductive surfaces on both sides of the glass (lots of surface area) acts as a large capacitor which holds the charge. Flybacks do not hold a charge, sorry. The CRT glass acting as a capacitor also serves as a filter for the high-voltage.
This man does precise work. Thanks for sharing

Question.... Isn't there going to be a problem with the 2 reflecting surfaces creating a corona effect like in air-couppled projection sets?

nice demo.. btw why didn't you just apply pva and fix the lens?

I have a question why you need to put the lens on CRT instead of just putting on the TV with out the lens.

Cool demonstration. I would not have thought this to be possible.
I would have used foil backed tape around the edges. I think it would deteriorate slower than packaging tape.

Silly question i know...But does a CRT like that, hold a charge once removed from the case? I am just learning about old tv's.
kevykev38 2 years ago
its the flyback that holds the charge. old or new.
hellsmaw84 2 years ago
@hellsmaw84 Not the flyback, the tube itself does.

The CRT holds no charge... The flyback transformer holds the charge.

LOL, I think you need to brush up on your electronics a little bit bud...

Correct.
The flyback transformer is nothing more than a bunch of wire when its got no power on it.

Very impressive!
Do you replace the PVA or install any other bonding agent?
