  • I like what you do. Thanks for being here for us

  • how could someone possibly dislike his attempt to teach others an instrument?

and he does it pretty well, my harp is ordered and i'm looking forward using what he's tying to teach us

good job, keep going man! =)

  • Your tutorials definately got me on my way!.. and been having alot of fun since.

You seem like a top bloke and always a pleasure to watch your vids.

    Namaste brother!!!

  • Gosh - you guys talk funny - especially when you're together.

Anyway - this Yank (the noun, not the verb) really appreciates your humor and showing how you get the sounds and tonguing you do for individual notes. No-one showed me that before.

Again, thanks from Anza, California, USA.

  • Hello, When playing the harmonica, could I invent a song as I play it or would sound strange? Thanks for the excellent tutorials. I found them very helpful.

  • @Jer942

    Yes absolutely

  • @Jer942 Keep at it and after 40 years you wont believe how good you are..but you must love the sound, JC

  • Hi, I have a 24 holes harmonica and a 16 holes harmonica, are they good for playing music on them? Thaks for the excellent video.

  • @Jer942

    Yes but not for blues

  • @OZHARP Hey, it appears I inherited a Höhner Rheingold from great-gramps, and would love to learn to play. However it's an antique (still sounds perfect) 24-hole large harmonica. Is it not fit for these tutorials / blues play in general? What kind of practice should I get into?

Thanks in advance, tutorials looking very good.

  • @FUBARbyBOOZE actually, I just found out how to count the holes. There's a whacking 48.

  • I knew this bloke when he was riding a Kawasaki 900 with an outlaw bikie group in Adelaide, South Australia, in the 1970s..

    Gooday Cowboy!!!

    Litte Pete

  • hey uhm you said to avoid practicing too long or you'll get pissed and stop right, well I practice anytime I have spare time and I dont usually get too mad, but should I avoid doing that or what?

  • No.. Only if you become to frustrated to achieve anything.

  • @OZHARP

    Yes but not blues.

  • Thanks for this mate. Finally some decent tips, you Diggers don't f*ck around.

Got a harp for Christmas, hope I can stick with it, already play guitar so this should work well with it.

Like the bit about him putting his foot down with the Missus with the amp, funny.

    Thanks again.

  • nice tutorial :)

    greetings from america

  • Fell the hole locations with your tongue then take your tongue away still holding your lips around the holes.

  • How do you blow or suck in 3 holes at the same time? Can anyone help me on this? Thanks!

  • Excellent again Brian...

Your student is very good also...

    5*s....

  • very inspirering

started a week ago and finaly got a single fresh note.

its the first instrument wich is the whole thing for me.

After i watched your vid i wouldn´t every be able to stop ^^ guess my flat share mates will hate me soon :)

    thanks

  • Great teacher and player as well. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks for being so positive. There is not enough of this in our world today. Great lesson, in more than just with the harmonica.

  • From one blues player to anouther you are a honer and credit to the genre part of you to me is what the blues in a modern world is about!

  • brilliant help my friend i bought my harp 3 days ago and i already play guitar drums and sing as it is but im a playing away with thanks to you

    thanks again

    tom ellerman

  • This guy is like the Morpheous of the blues harp

  • LOL

  • Very Good! I'm going to dig out the Hohner G harp from the bottom of my draw that I bought 15 years ago and get to it.

  • it must be rusty by now... eew...

  • please dont stop the video's you are the best teacher i have come across thank you so much!!!

  • Great explanation.

    Started this weekend.

I'll post a video in one year.

    Greatings from overseas... (Belgium/Europe

  • Your first volume and this have been of great use to myself thankyou very much, despite being maybe a little advanced for a beginner I've found myself progressing rather quickly thanks to the tips you've incorporated in the two videos, I look forward to viewing the rest, thanks :D

  • you guys r cool. thanks. =D

  • Currently, i'm pretty plastered, but your videos are the first tutorials i've seen that really prep you to commit a part of yourself to this instrument. again, im pretty drunk, but i feel like after watching these, you've just stopped me from wasting years of practice like i did with guitar. thanks.

  • when i was younger, i got inspired by one great song or another, and i went out and bought a guitar. it sat in my room for about 3 or 4 years until i got in the habit of playing it regularly and learning anything. now i'm rather proficient at the guitar, and recently, i saw a couple good harp players and got really into it. imediately i went out a got a set of hohners.

  • yo dude!! took your advice and got me self a blues key of D 10 holed harp..

The only thing it came with c chords instructions not D ones, and can't seem to find them any where??

    could u please help!!

  • Chord shapes are the same for every harp. Though the chord names (and pitch) will be different, you can use the exact same chord shapes for 10-hole diatonics of any key. The 1 chord on a C harp is the chord of "G". The 1 chord on a D harp is the chord of "A". Use the same chord shape, it goes up in key when you use a higher key harp. Hope this helps.

  • friend, u r really doin' a great thing here. i'm a beginner and i've quite had enough with just 'beginning'... i really want to learn more, to hear myself playing, but it seems i can't get past pure notes (even 2nd draw) and move on to a riff or even an idiotic childish song... i'll keep on watching and trying to learn... patience and breath is all i need i guess...

anyway, respect big time from Romania, mate!

  • Good on ya.

    cheers from Phoenix

  • I'm learning to and I just figured out the technique behind getting pure single notes, Basically stick your lips out in an exaggerated kiss and put the harmonica on your bottom lip, the little U your lip makes should cover the holes on either side of the one your trying to hit while you blow through the space in between. Also a really easy tune you can practice with is 3 blow 3 suck 4 blow 4 suck Then do it backwards 4 suck 4 blow 3 suck 3 blow
  • Cheers for that man, thats working for me quite well at the moment

  • That is the problem with most people, they want to play like others, but the most important thing is that you play out of the inner soul..That makes you a good musician..The technique will you have to learn from others but when you got the technique play out of the soul!!

This video is very motivating..! Thank you very much!!

  • Thanks Phoenix, you do really help in giving us beginners a bit of hope. Can't seem to progress and become very inpatient

  • To OZHarp, greetings from the UK! thanks for the great videos and harp tips... i have dug up my old hohner blues harp in C. I am looking forward to watching volume 3 in a moment!

  • Hi

Awesome lessons from a fellow ausse rr u r lessons are really helpin me get better at harp its such a kool instrument to hav around thanks heaps keep up with the lessons...

    Alek

  • Hiya

I'm loving these tutorials! I'm going to buy me a 10tone D harp soon, currently I'm practicing on a Chinese one that has 24 holes which are all double so it's a 48 hole harp! I haven't a clue what model that should be, it's a "Tower" Harp made in Shanghai in China, looks decent but it's probably not what I should be practicing with, we just had this harp so I figured I'd start practice with this one, I can manage single tones like the police car effect you were talking about

  • Great lessons. From a fellow aussie, its good to see some Aussies getting amongst it. I am looking forward to some more of your lessons. Keep up the good work. Its inspired me to pick up the harp again. I am setting myself a goal of getting a bit better and playing with a band this year.
