I find if you pick them up every chance you get and put them on your lap or next to you after they fall asleep they start to cuddle up next to you to sleep out of habit. One of my four climbs up into my bed by himself and curls up on the pillow next to me and he's barely 2. I think it also depends on their personality

I thought he was dying and rushed to take him to the doctor but by the time we were heading out the door he started waking. So I read up on it and it turns out that it's normal. The fact his body was so limp scared me so much. I was crying thinking my baby was dying.

Yes, Ferrets can be smelly, personally I'd rather smell a ferret than an old lady with way too much perfume on

so It's safe to say that everyone is sensitive to different smells. But if you do not like the smell of musky animals such as the ferret than you can get their glands removed which is one of the contributing factors.

Of course maintaining their habitat clean that can also make a huge difference.

ArmusMcCluskey says the right thing.they 'spray' when they're very scared. the smell doesn't stay in the air for too long anyway. and yeah cleaning and changing their bedding is important.also let a ferret out of the cage a lot.it does help to reduce the smell and a ferret will be happier

you can buy this stuff that u squirt in their water and it REALLY works. If u have just one it wont be a problem but 2 of them WILL stink up a storm unless u clean the cage every 2-3 days. they do poop a lot.

@coletraindudeguy I know this is an old comment, but they really don't smell that much at all. My ferrets FOOD smells more than he does!

Bathing them too much and neglecting to clean their bedding and littler box are the main things that make them smelly.

Over bathing removes the needed oils in their fur and skin, stinky litter is obvious, and ferrets only smell as clean as their bedding... which is obvious though, since stinky bed makes for a stinky ferret!

@coletraindudeguy they only smell if you don't bathe them somewhat regularly (bathing too frequently can reactivate the stink glands) and clean their litter box on a regular basis. My aren't stinky, they just smell like ferret! All animals have a scent, just like cats, dogs, etc.

@coletraindudeguy Most places in North America have the ferrets stink gland removed. But you still have to bathe it otherwise it will still stink. So if you remove the gland and bathe it regularly, it wont stink as much as any other animal would.

Hey do petshops usually sell males or females? Do these guys smell really that bad ( I owned two mice don't mind it too much )? Do they really go in the corner and will they go into a litterbox if it's in their chosen corner? And how do you go about washing these guys? With my mice I would just either fill up the sink scruff them and support their belly and dip them neck level or put them in my hand and just wash over their body.

@coletraindudeguy thats the same thing my parents said. but all you have to do to keep the smell down is bathe them a couple times a week, spray them with a special formula (you can find it at any walmart) and keep the food and water fresh. then no smell! trust me my parents were very surprised when he didn't smell like a skunk as they predicted haha ^^

yeahi used to have three ferretts but snowy dide last summer ill nevr forget her! i still have two ferretts named peppy and vicsone i love them both dearly! i have lost both of them at least 1s out side! peppy was able to survive the hole night in -30 wether! vicson was able to find a new family for 3 days till someone called tell us that they had her! i love ferrets they are such darlings lol!
