This song totally takes me back 25 years ago when my family first got cable and we were able to watch Nickelodeon, the First Kid's Channel! Good times, thanks for posting this song. Just love that guitar break at the end!
Now this is the opening song that I remembered from when I was in grade school (some 25 years ago.) One of my favorite things to watch on Saturday night.
I've had this song in my mind since grade school (Over 20 years ago)! The big issue is that I only caught this show once, so the only thing I remembered was this song. So awesome to run into this (and the show).
This was the shit when i was younger. I know times are changing but I'm tired of trash bubble gum shows. Popularity =/= Quality Hear that JAPAN STOP MAKING F**KING POKEMON!!!!! 151 end of story.
@GoGojiraGo You know, you're so right? My girls love the Avatar series which really reminds me of those two shows. Too bad Nick stopped making new episodes of Avatar. it's like they don't know a good thing when they've got it. Now, my girls like MCOG (i think I found them on HULU) and want to see Spartakus too.
This got me to thinking. I don't remember this, but were the images the same from the Menudo version or did they show different stuff?
I'm guessing different because of the picture in this video. Geesh, the logo here looks SO FAMILIAR to me and I can't come up with ever having seen it (keep in mind I was only about four or five when it was on Nick, and I've only saw like two or three eps back then).
I just remembered something about this version of the theme. Back in the day (I think 1987), my sister and I were in our parents' room watching Spartakus and the ending credits came on. I don't know what the heck happened, but I remember the credits being "stills" from the show, and instead of going to the second still, the first still (and the music) started over. This happened about five times. To this day, I don't know what happened, and it's like the only memory I have of the show!
Man this show just did not HAVE any bad openings did it? Original French music was awesome, 1st english version was awesome, Menudo version was awesome. Dear God this show needs a movie adaptation. So bad.
@EmperorofCartoons a live action adaptation would be interesting to pull off but you gotta be careful some studio doesnt some annoying child actress du jour to play Rebecca
Nothing wrong with either version...Original helped tell the story better, newer one was more upbeat, more kid-friendly...
One must remember, in the U.S., Menudo were starting to become popular among English-speaking Americans. So Nickelodeon, who owned the rights to broadcast Spartakus (Les Mondes Engloutis) in USA thought that that using Menudo for the theme would help with ratings.
I just want to thank you for posting this. This was the best theme. Ironically a French cartoon. And I am French and this theme is not and I lovvvvvvvve it - you are awesome!!!!
Now, THIS is the version of the intro to this show that I BEST remember, even though I only remembered bits of it; I didn't even recall the first intro at all!

I gotta find out if Ricky Martin was in the group when they recorded this song. If I was a talk show host and he was on, I'd force to sing this.

This and Mysterious Cities of Gold were my absolute favorite shows back in the late 80's. I'd turn on Nick and watch them religiously every day.
God I miss those days. Cartoons were actually fun and entertaining then.

THIS was the theme I remember growing up! No one seems to acknowledge it though....
I remember the 2nd opening had the sun plunging down under the water as a visual cue.
If anything it reminds me of She-Ra's ending theme. (No clue at the time this was Menudo though!!)

Yay, this is the theme I remember. This is the later theme, IIRC. As much as I dislike Menudo, I love hearing this song. I miss Spartacus :(

I heard Menudo also recorded the theme in Spanish for the Spanish speaking viewers.
Personally, I like both themes, but I think Menudo's would be better as a promotional thing for the show, and not the actual theme.
