"dfry01" - as them being Jewish, its something we dont really bother about over here. i'v never asked them, most left for ecomonic reasons and fact they didn't like Putin. i may not be impressed by Bush, certianly not with Brown, but Putin is something else, i just do not trust him. it would seem although Russia has a new president, putin still calls all the shots, but behind the scenes.

"dfry01" - as to going to Georgia, now no-way, but in the future, possibly especially if she becomes part of the EU, then there are no borders, same currency, but unique culture. i know a few russian's in london, most fiercely proud of being Russian, but do not thing much of Putin. one said he's giving away the family silver to his friends.
i always have respect to those who can speak other languages, we are alittle poor at that in the UK at speaking others.

"dfry01" - true, when ever i thought of chess, russia came to mind. me, i am as about english as you can get, born and breed. i dont know about you, but i am of the age to remember the cold war, doing what we must. links between Russian the UK were once strong, but they have drived to new lows now. lets hope they can get better. i am glad communism is dead, it never did them proud, though i do think the russian people may have something to say about who's getting all there old state industries.

"dfry01" - if your telling me, Russia has a problem with S200's, i am absolutely stunned. the s200 did not pose much of a problem to NATO during the bosnian war, if that 1960's tech is problem for Russia, again i am stunned. there are many ways to take them out of the equation.

"dfry01" - i am not saying Georgia has not got to answer for what it has done, and it will, but Russia will have to answer for its massive over-kill and its continuing engagement in Georgia. you and i post here, but why do you think the world'd leader are meeting at this moment over this issue, in a unified voice condeming Russian over-kill. russia may lose its G8 seat, and will not be allowed to join the WTO. those in the know, know what is and has happened, hence these meetings.

"dfry01" - the BBC had reporters in Gori and showed russian tanks moving around and APVs dropping troops off. another film crew aaproached the russia border from the Georgia side and found Georgia villages totally flattened, well outside the conflict region. the only reason they did not go into the conflict region, was due to snipers, the fact a BBC film crew had been already been attacked by a Russia combat jet and their safety was at question.

"dfry01" - i hear what you say, but both logic and evidence do not support that. the Georgia are totalled defeated, Russia has air-superority and can pick and choose targets at will, as it is. any Georgia unit firing on Russia positions would be taken immediately by a CAP. they have lost, its just a question of how bad. it would suicide to engage russian forces having totally lost air-superority. the Russia's have far, far more toys in all domains to that of the Georgia's.

"dfry01" - you and i both know thats never going to happen. i may not trust much of the press, even western press, but the BBC tend to give a fare report and most qualify their reports with evidence, less state they can not substaniate a story. they have been very critical of teh Georgia President, very harsh, but its the over-kill from Russia and it going back on its word to stop events, when quite clearly fighting is still going on in Gori, well outside the conflict zone.

"dfry01" - it seems hard to believe as Gori is has been taken over by Russian force as we post, 24 hours after the cease-fire stated by the Russian President. it would seem Putin has other plans. who actually controls the Russian forces. i dont think any-one believes the Russian's any-more, as the Russians have now entered the other region in dispute, fighting in Gori and tanks reported moving toward Tbilisi. it does not give much confidence.

"dfry01" - from reports being shown by the BBC now, show russia tanks destroying buildings in Gori right now. who actually controlls the Russian forces, as the Russian president had said they had stopped. but almost 24 hours later the Russians are still at it, also allowing the South Ossetia's to come in and loot Gori. so much for Russian PeaceKeepers controlling the situation. the EU has convended an emergency meeting to discuss what is to be done.

"dfry01" - some way of commuicating needs to be found before its gets much worse and we start another cold war. it will need comprimsing on both sides on certain issues. the EU is a usefull buffer between the US and Russia. remember the EU is bigger than both the US and Russia put together, but not as formed, it will take some time to jell together before its true potential and power comes out, if ever.

"dfry01" - my hope is Russia decided to engage more without its bullying tactics. ignoring Russia seems to be the current fav in the EU, she's won no friends by flying nuclear bombers up to a number of EU country borders and cutting off the gas and pissing off major international corporations, BP as an example, does not help. i am not saying russia should roll over and beg, thats never going to happen.

"dfry01" - at another issue already going through the EU parliment at the moment. after turning of the gas to the Ukraine and effecting the EU, especially in Germany. Germany, france, poland and the Uk have tabled a motion to use alternate gas source, as russia currently only supplies 35% of the EU needs, so this can never have the same effect again.

"dfry01" - if this was all a setup, then russia fell striaght into it. i can not believe georgia was willing to go the wire over this, not being part of NATO, NATO was never going to step into help Georgia. its a bit like the Iran issue, Russia would note step into help them for the same reason. as you know, it would have gone to the UN, as it is, for them to discuss forever. its suggested UN peacekeepers, non russian, go into Georgia next.

"dfry01" - there is more talk now of punishing Russia over its over-kill in Georgia. the G8, which may become the G7, is talking about throwing Russia out and refused entry into the WTO. it would seem Georgia which was blocking Russia's entry, is now backed by the US and the EU. it would seem the US has the final say in this matter.

"dfry01" - though it was on the BBC, it was in front of the French President when the Russian President made these statements. it confused the reporters at the time. i know you you dont trust the BBC, but actually is very critical of both sides, not just the Russians. it gave the Georgia spokesman a good grilling the other night.

"dfry01" - well a BBC film crew caught 2 russian helicopter flying towards Tbilisi firing out fares over fields, which set them on fire. on approaching villages close to Tbilisi, they had been bombed, with Georgia tanks / APV burnt out. then the Russian President says there is a cease fire, only minutes later to say its carrying on a bit longer. who actually commands russian forces, the President or the Prime ministry, or it is a free for all out there.

"dfry01" - i hear now Russia has been bombing Gori and the Georgia captial, amongst many other places. thats a bit outside the war zone, is russia trying to extend the conflict region. it's got turkey nervous, which has complained to NATO and the UN about Russia.
