    Weller is still God.

  • Anyone know the year this was filmed?

  • Steve white looks about 12 !!

  • Spitting image of my ex, including third tit (see original video for this song,,,). Know from a very close source PW a proper twat, especially when it comes to the ladieees, but man, what a talent!

  • @EvaTism lol Paul is a twat? I guess that would not be hard to beleive

  • Does anyone have a cleaner version of this footage? I wanna rip the audio, this bass lick NEEDS to be on my iPod!

  • @BladeV8 The "Clube Mix" that appears on "Introducing The Style Council" contains this bass lick.

  • @VoceTubeia You legend, thank you! :)

  • @BladeV8 I'm glad I could help :). By the way, it's "Club Mix", not "Clube Mix", as I've mistyped. But I'm sure you now that.

  • I love Paul weller music never seems to date and saw him live at v festival 2010 awesome :-)

  • Steve White can´t be more than 18-19 here. Great tune. Thanks for uploading the memories.

  • top tune, man. always loved em. cheers :)

  • Weller is the greatest !

  • GREAT SONG

  • Heard this on one of those"WHAT MTV PLAYED at the time radio stations" and bought the album next day.

  • holy shit Steve White looks so young!!!!

  • @jmatuchi He was a child!

  • THE sound of 1980s Britain

  • fucking Mick Talbot is a damn good musician yh they r idiots, Paul Weller is top God. xx

  • takes me right back to 1983,such great memories of that summer,i was 13 at the time, now i"m feeling old, where have the years gone !

  • Shudy durdy, durdy bop! Shudy durdy, durdy bop!

  • He plays the Bass beautifully!! Thanks for sharing this. Such a great song!!

  • Yo this guy is on his Barry White in this song! lol

  • fucking SOLID.

  • Steve White looks so young......yes I know he is in this video.....what 17 years old?......I am so glad Weller took a chance on such a kid at the time......he such a poweful force on all the Council songs he has played on.....I think he, Clem Burke of Blondie and Stewart Copeland are the best drummers in the world.....yes I know there are many great drummers......this is just my opinion.....

  • weller looks waxen here. a brazen edition of long hot summer though

  • I always loved this version better because of that sick bass!

  • i agree- it must be the bass.

  • Great song!!!

  • Weller so effortlessly great! full of soul, obviously not that many have it like that :)

  • Weller was The Jam's original bass player until he swapped to lead guitar.

  • Yeah... why toss this bassline?

  • First time I heard Long Hot Summer, now one of my desert island discs, I didn't like it cos of the sync drumbeat. But the music and lyrics just draw you in, and then to get this with a proper bass line and drums really highlights the qualities of the tune and just shows what an all round talent the guy is. Wonderful version.

  • I Love The Bass Line!

  • He looks cool, mate. Sublime song.

  • How cmp does wellar look lol haha

  • I must admit their homoerotic aesthetic frightened me off way back when.

    My bad.

  • What a f*cking good bass player !

  • Man I love that bass riff- goes so well.

  • mitico e mitici PIERLUIGI DI COLA

  • love love love this song

  • I've said it before; I will say it again. Paul Weller has more talent in his little finger than other artists have in their entire body. Mick was a critical part of the Style Council success. Don't underestimate his talent. I've had their music since the 80's. Never get tired of it.

  • Right on..great band..anyone who slags off Mick Talbot is an idiot

  • @PhilRebbeck

got to agree...i got into a row with some idiot a couple of months ago....you are right...he is wrong...in fact..im gonna fly to the island and beat his arse...and then stand him a pint....

  • @PhilRebbeck Why because Talbot wasn't even cool no matter how hard he tried? He's a complete wanker.

  • Harsh on Mick Talbot...an important part of the Style Council.

  • Magnetic style beyond love. United States of Erotica.

  • pillock...you wouldn't know mod if you fell over it...so potter off, you silly yankee child.

  • What are you talking about?

  • is that why he is single handedly responsible for the mod revival. said by you beloved mr weller himself.

  • i so love this song

  • So do I! What album is this from?

  • It's not, it was only on an EP. (Introducing the style council)

But you can find it on many a greatest hits

  • Thanks so much, I'll look out for it.

  • ILOVE THIS SONG

  • Weller on bass backed with additional percussion to complement Steve White. Mick's improvs were also pleasant. Thanks you paruomax. Most appreciated.

  • Much better version than the original album cut.

  • Good looking guy/

  • Seen him twice, love him to bits. Style Council, albeit a short-lived project, produced a fantastic, real, socially conscious side of music.

  • I wouldn't call 6 years short lived ;)

  • Those lyrics are the stuff of genius.

  • yes, they're great but not as good as foxton's lyrics in "smithers-jones". both are favourite songs though...

  • paul weller shows us that a true romantic song doesn't need to sound cheesy.

    that's just good pop song.

  • This man is all soul and that soul comes in a nice package. Man that bass is bangin'.

  • Mean Bass Paul!, cool...

  • This is fantastic weller still does this song justice now when he plays it live great bass !

  • How have I lived this long (44) and not seen this fab version?! Damn, I love YouTube. I agree, the bass line here is much more layered than the studio version. Fantastic, thanks for posting!

  • I would follow him to hell.

  • great vibe to this song, one of the better moments of 83.

  • I'm in love.

  • ... of course the recordings I have were recorded with synthesized bass

  • wow this bassline is different than the recordings I own... it's changes the groove a little

  • can somebody whizz me back to the eighties please... thanks

  • Such an excellent version, gosh this takes me to another world, another place and time!

  • Simply Red???

  • I guess your right. this is Mick without RED hair ! LOL

  • i've only a few solo albums...and some jam that i stole off the net...this is fantastic, wow didn't even know he played bass

  • What a bassline! He impressed me a lot, I didn't knew he could play bass like this!

  • great song... cool :)

  • Yes very slick bass playing from Paul! I'm very impressed!

  • I've been a fan of Weller since his JAM days. I knew he played on a track or two on 'Our Favourite Shop' but I had no idea he could play a bass like this.

Bravo! (and thanks for this vid)

  • WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW! This is a "Long Hot Summer" trip unlike I have heard! And I thought Lenny Henry and Weller singing "You're the Best Thing" was rare. Now how do I get my hands on the audio of this? Trade, anyone?

  • i keep coming back to listen to that baseline

  • simply ozzes excellence

  • I LOVE IT...GREAT SONG..

  • nice version of a beautiful song

  • Simply beautiful. Great song and Excellent version. The Jam, Style Council, lead singer...Paul Weller is always great!

    Warm regards from Rome, Italy

  • Visited Rome in 06 mesmorised as I was with this song. Not taking away from history but this will take it's place as a classic. Hale Weller lol.

  • Simply beautiful. Excellent version. Intense song. Paul Weller in all appearances is great!

Warmest regards for all from Rome, Italy

    regards from sardinia, Italy!

    Andrea

  • Pure poetry in motion flowing like river! This song relates to everyone who has been in love at one time or another in there life. Though I still like the original version.

  • Ditto!

  • This brings a tear to my eye !

i pity the youth of today, brtough up on McFly, and other s**t !!!!

At least I lived the best decade eva !!!!!...

  • By far the best viseo I have seen on the internet of TSC.

  • Wow, totally brings me back to high school! Paul Weller was the BEST.....

  • Can ANYONE tell me what kind of bass guitar this is?

  • Pretty sure it's a Vantage. Made in the famous Matsomoku factory in Japan , late '70s to early '80s. EXCELLENT world class quality guitars and basses. I've owned several and currently own one (X-88).

  • I never knew Weller played bass. Great Song.

  • WoW.. I'm in love. This is my first induction watching TSC period. Had no idea he was sooo good on the bass. Can anyone make out what kind of bass he's got here? I w a n t one!

  • WoW.. I'm in love. This is my first induction watching TSC period. Had no idea he was sooo good on the bass. Can anyone make out what kind of bass he's got here? I w a n t one!

  • wicked propper music !!!

  • smazin

  • Looking at that drummer- someone should have pinched Weller for Child Labour Laws.

  • Yeah that was drummer Steve White's first TV appearance with TSC at the tender age of 17

  • Hey, I read those liner notes, too.

  • Would love to hear the Isleys do a cover of this! Or the Delfonics!

  • weller looks like a brylcreemed stick insect.

  • yes...a delicious, sexy one!!

  • yeah, i've read that before. its really interesting to think that bruce foxton was originally the rythm guitarist in the jam because some of his basslines were downright ridiculous on those albums. it seemed like he was born with a 4 string in his hands.

  • he was a bass player before a guitarist

  • i AM SEARCHING FOR THE VIDEo with Paul Wellers parents speaking, the strikes are in it and the concerts he performed for free. do you know the name of this video I was just watching it on you tube and can't find it.

  • not to mention he's chewing gum as well.

although it is too bad Paul who usually has the natural ability to outdress anyone looks like Francis Begbie here.

  • Hehe cracked me up. Nice one...

  • the way he is singing while holding down the rhythm with that awesome bassline is incredible.

  • Flawless.

  • Brilliant

  • Steve joined the band at the tender age of 17. If you listen to his contributions over a generation with Paul, you can't deny his talent.

  • steve white looks 12 years old. Sweet!

  • The Pac-Man noises probably weren't necessary, but hey it was the 80s. Gorgeous, thanks for posting.

  • Godlike

  • beautiful,

  • I love that song thanks !

  • wot a bass line player

  • wicked.

  • without question...the fiercest man in rock! EVER!
