Another hilarious cartoon clip from the early days - it seems like it's in the same 'mold' as the one with the boy erasing things, the boy counting to 20 with a paddleball, and the botched rocket countdowns.
Did you hear about the guy who fell down a 10-story elevator shaft and lived to tell everybody about it? He told everyone on the 10th floor, the 9th floor, the 8th floor...
While even today there maybe some elevator operators in some older buildings in 1969 and since the post WW II era buildings have been built with automatic elevators.
I saw this maybe twice as a kid. Very odd. I was disturbed by some Sesame Street stuff, but I think this one was perhaps more strange than scary to me.
I've noticed a lot of this old school Sesame Street animation is kinda like watching the animation from the movie "Yellow Submarine".......is there a connection?
When "Yellow Submarine" premiered in 1968, it was considered a paradigm shift for the animation industry, much the way the 1977 "Star Wars" was for feature special effects, model/miniatures, matte paintings and storytelling. Animators everywhere were excited by the Halas/Batchelor team's groundbreaking work in YS and strove to imitate it. To see how deeply CTW was influenced by "Yellow Submarine", watch the "When I'm 64" sequence in the latter and examine the animation of the numbers.
You're right. I found it kind of scary too. I always wondered where everyone went to when the elevator exploded and the operator was left alone to fall?
I too FONDLY recall this being sort of frightening to me as a child. Both the sound of the ghoul (or whatever) on the 4th floor and the scream at the end were spooky. But I loved whenever this one aired.
That is so cool to see that Sprout shows older shows. I wished i had that channel. But i don't have that other saulight. (can't spell why could Sesame Street talk about those things) I have Dish Network. But cool to see this skit. Don't remember it but cool to see something old.

Well, today's elevators usually sound an alarm if there are too many people in the elevator car.

It's the classic "Who Sank the Boat" scenario relocated to the elevator.

I love that boxing kangaroo - but then I guess I'm not the only one. This is why we have weight limits on elevators nowadays.

Next to the "Umbrella Lady", this scared the hail out of me. Sometimes Sesame Street was too frightening to watch!

This used to end with the "bahm-BAHM" that's on a lot of the animated clips, i.e. "Goat Begins With the Letter G."
DiAnno13 4 years ago
There are other animated clips that end with the "bahm-BAHM" (Sesame Street Old School Music):
B for Boxer
B for Boxeador (Spanish for Boxer)
Goat Begins With the Letter G (The letter G)
Joe and the Junebug (the Letter J)
J for Jam (Limerick J)
O for Open (Limerick O)
V for Violin (Limerick V)

So this is from Sprout? Wow, I had no idea they played older shows.

No, most of the episodes lately have been from around 2000-2001. They incorporate clips from the older episodes every now and then.
