We have only used this type of foundation temporarily, which was great. I would not use this as a permanent solution. Those that do might have a better reason.
@AusJackal We cut first. Then we make sure the platform is sufficient enough to get the two boxes as close as possible. Then we weld the corner posts. Then we lay down a strip of metal across the open seam on top and weld this together. A continues welder is best for an even long weld strip. Then from the inside we squeeze in a sealant then we squeeze in "backer rod", Then some expansive foam. Then we install the finishing trim work. This is all explained in our book. Good luck.
Recycling contains is a good idea, especially if that container was just going to be abandoned and left to decay. But contains use an awful lot of heavy gauge metal. Honestly I think a traditional stick-built home would use a lot less material, and more renewable resources.
Question. How strong is the roof after the holes for windows are cut? I am thinking deck on the roof featuring patio furniture like you have but also a hot tub. That is quite a bit of weight with the water in it. Overall it would weigh about 5000 lbs with water and a few occupants.
@ryanvms Not sure if you got an answer on this but I believe the frame of the container is the main support structure. You may have too brace the roof in the center to prevent sagging, but the overall rigidity of the frame should remain the same.
Please could u explain why the containers are on stilts? I've seen quite a few with this layout now but I can't think of a good reason for it?

can you tell me how you seal the gap between the containers before you cut away the internal adjourning walls?
