  • This is a good movie. Its a weird blend of patriotism of our soldiers and criticism of the iraq war. The whole thing pretty much comes down to the veterans trying figure "why are we in iraq?"

  • Welcome Home

  • I was planning on joining the marines, but after seeing this I was like, "Fuck that shit." I'm someone that doesn't fear death or injury, but there's nothing I hate more than false promises.

  • So your saying a video about the truth of war shouldnt be shown to people thinking about joining as it might make them not wanting to join? People have a right to know what there getting into before the sign the peice of paper. How many civilians do you think realise just what is going on over there? People dont understand why soliders are coming how with mental issuses and just how many are coming home with out feet or legs. ITS TO CREATE AWEARNESS END OF STORY STFU. If you cantseethatyourdumb

  • @sirstick23 You are an ignorant troll. I asked a few simple, yet legitimate questions because I was curious about the video, and you couldn't answer them (probably because you honestly have no idea what you are talking about), so instead of admitting that you are ignorant and shutting the fuck up, you decided to turn my questions into something they are not. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

  • @sirstick23 Oh, and just for your information, I'm an Active Duty military member, so I know a thing or two about this subject. If you can't answer my questions, shut your stupid fucking face and let someone who can answer them chime in.

  • @aftamath86 Rage much? Your not the only one in the machine. I answered your question about 5 times. If you're to dumb to work out the point of a documentary and then still be to dumb to read it once some one as told you then it goes with out saying your pretty freaking dumb. If this doc isnt to create awearness what is it for???????????????????????????????????????????? exactly STFU go back to your hole and keep saying yes sir, yes sir, yes sir I am an idiot.

  • @sirstick23 Lol! Still a troll. You rage at me simply for expecting you to back up your statements with an intelligent thought, then accuse ME of being the one who is raging. Your idiocy is amusing to say the least. Then, to put the icing on the cake, you display your ignorance of the military by making the "yes sir, I am an idiot" remark, which totally illustrates the fact that you know absolutely zilch about the military, or what any of these vets have been through. You sir, are pathetic.

  • @sirstick23 And just to be clear, you have answered no questions whatsoever. It should be very clear that when one takes the oath of enlistment, they must be prepared to take a life, or even lose their own life in the line of duty. If they didn't realize that coming into the service, they are even more ignorant than you are. My question is, what is the point of this documentary? Promoting awareness of something people should already be aware of? Its absurdity at its finest.

  • I'm just curious here, and not trying to spark any kind of debate, but what exactly is the point of this documentary? What message are the producers trying to convey? Is it an attempt to turn people away from the military? Do they not want our country to posses a means of defending itself? Just for clarification, I'm not referring to any specific war, but I'm asking this more as a general question. What is the goal in creating a film like this? I'm just curious.

  • @aftamath86 People dont realise what is going on over there, and what It does to troops (of any country) and how crap militarys are with PTSD and helping wounded soliders. Its mainly to create awearness and open the eyes of people thinking about joining.

  • @sirstick23 To open the eyes of people who are thinking about joining? Fair enough.... but with what intention? To dissuade them from going through with it? I sincerely hope not.

  • @aftamath86 Its mainly for the public. If you showed this video to 19 year olds thinking about joing, it would not make them walk away and not join. The people that made this video are supporting your troops by making this video.

  • @sirstick23 Ok, but how so? I'm still unclear as to the purpose of this film.

  • @aftamath86 The point of the video is not that hard wrap your mind around.

  • @QBisbest Well if that's the case then why don't you explain it to me, smart guy? All I see when I watch this video is a bunch of people whining about stuff that they should have already expected when they took the oath of enlistment/office.

  • @aftamath86 Yes, and asking me that would spark a debate wouldn't it? I'll just leave you to figure that out for yourself. I wouldn't call it whinning when you come back from war with PTSD and the military refuses to give you treatment because they consider it a, "Personal disorder" that had nothing to do with the war. I don't know, I think I would be a tad bit pissed in their situation.

  • @QBisbest Spark a debate? Not at all. I am a grown man and am fully capable of admitting when someone makes a valid point, which you have done. PTSD IS indeed a problem, but I can also vouch for the fact that the military does not just dismiss it as portrayed in this video. Most bases have a variety of services available for members who are having stress related issues, not to mention base and unit chaplains who are pretty much required by law to keep counseling sessions totally confidential.

  • @aftamath86 Dude shut the fuck up. If you don't know the purpose for making this movie you are too young to even think about watching it. They didn't make this movie in attempts to weaken the US army. They made it to show us a 1st person perspective view of what you would go through if you were in Iraq. And all the hardships that follow. It's that fucking simple. Get that through your thick head.

  • @MrKhanYay Shut the fuck up? Why should I? Because some moron who apparently can't read and thinks they are an internet bad ass told me to? How about this, YOU shut the fuck up and read all comments before posting and making yourself look like a moron. By the way, I can assure you that I'm not too young to watch anything. Based on your lack of writing ability, however, I daresay you are probably too stupid to try and hold an educated conversation, so I'll leave it at that.

  • @aftamath86 Yeah, they're doing such a great job helping the soldiers that there were more suicides than combat fatalities last year.

  • When the rich wage war it's the poor who die.

  • God bless all people.

  • God bless our troops

  • we have been at war for years and our people are dieing everyday can someone not wake up open there eyes and see we have changed nothing we have just lost men and woman to a pointless currupt war what have we accomplished being in iraq afghan nothing i respect a soldier just war 9/11 3000 people died then we follwed a war across countries where another 100,000 died if you try to fix violance with violance you do nothing but create violance

  • america sucks

  • Heart felt gratitude and thanks to our dedicated men and women in uniform, and to those who have the courage to speak out about the realities of this war for oil and corporate profits (for that's really what it's about). The late Russian general Lebed: "Lions (soldiers) leading jackasses (politicians) will always win over jackasses leading lions." Too many bought-off corporate shill politicians leading America's brave lions. Keep speaking the truth! No retreat!

  • the war is when a bunch of old coward men send young and innocent boys to die to resolve their own troubles

  • @kjsh987 this war is a power play.

its about control of the middle east, and weakening america's position in the world

by draining its economy and dispersing their military so far and wide as to make it completely incapable of responding to any real threat.

where do you think these wars will leave you?

all the money for the war comes from taxes, all the profits made from it go to

    corporations.

    that, and ofcourse massive depopulation...

  • concerning war, yes it sucks. having to take someone's life is not a good thing. seeing your friend get killed in combat is horrible and death is tragical. However, it is unavoidable. As long as there are men there will be wars. Some things are necessary to be done. Part of the heroism of being a soldier is sacrificing your innocence for your country.

  • @BDNt12 no dude its EASILY avoided by simply not trying to be rambo and joining the fucking army in a time when your country is represented by corporate lobbies instead of a government for and by the people.

and if they didn't know, they bloodywell should have.

cuz most of these hired killers don't even care enuff to find out who and what

is giving these orders to kill people and why.

all they care about is having some1 say its ok to kill people, and they go kill people.

  • @Whisper6911 I'm not talking about being in a war I'm talking about war itself. It is unavoidable. If we do not neutralize the threat over seas they will annihilate us. Do you honestly think that if we just chilled here and minded our own business and did nothing about global affairs that we'd be safe? And if you're one of those morons who wants to completely get rid of any U.S. military force whatsoever, I hope you wouldn't think we're safe.

  • @BDNt12 Australia doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

but then their intelligence agancies don't constantly violate the sovereignty

of foreign nations for over 50 years.

and america has never been attacked without provocation.

    not once.

pearl harbor was provoked and so was 911.

this entire war is complete bullshit .

  • @Whisper6911 Tell me what provoked Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

  • @BDNt12 Watch Zeitgeist.

  • is this documentary actually asking me to care about the feelings of hired killers?

fuck em, they wanted to be rambo, let em be rambo.

stfu and get in that foxhole!

well let u know when we want somebody murdered.

  • Wow you are a pretty ignorant fuck. Were they hired killers when they stopped Hitler ? and the Nazi party. No they were men who put their lives on the line against a murderous ideology responsible for millions of deaths. You should be blaming the men who sent the people there Bush and the republican party. Don't blame the people just trying to get the job done. The sooner they fix up Iraq (if that ever happens) the sooner they can get out of a sensless war.

  • @KingoftheGods123 are you kidding me?

    or just stupid?

the govermnent pays them a salary, tells them to kill people, and they kill people.

    thats a hired killer.

you can bullshit yourself all you want about morals and such, but dead is dead, and a killer is a killer.

and im not blaiming anyone for anything.

im just wondering why i should give a fuck about them.

  • Whisper6911 u can act as if u don't care about any of it bud, in the long run that isnt going to get us out of any mess. We forget that its not only the select men and women in the military that make humanity destructive, Its people as a whole who refuse to pay attention to what is really going on in the world. Instead we agree to turn on the brainwashing TV and listen to what the media and simple minded dumbed down shows say we let the big boys take care of everything, and then complain aboutit

  • Read Smedley Butler. War is a Racket.

  • Why were you sent there (war) without proof anyway? Wake up World

  • I like Gunner Palace a hella lot more

  • we could power the entire world on fucking renewable enegry for a fucking long ass time and none of u cock suckers on here probly do anything to conserve energy i fucking ride a god damn bicycle everywhere and the electric companies pay me because i use solar panels u dumb mother fuckers. sry GO GREEN ;-) i probably ranted a lil bit lol

  • You are an inspiration As soon as i make good money im gonna go super green Im gonna go Booger Green lol

  • the old war vets formed or joined "rebel" biker gangs like the Hells Angels or The Outlawz... these guys are a bunch of whiny bitches. You know how many ppl are murdered everyday for no reason at all?

Saddam mass murdered ppl so no matter what reason we went over there he is gone the world is better a better place. And if we just went over there for oil then who cares are economy would die without it and we are all to blame for that. so suck a dick. u drive a car and u know it. ur to blame.

  • Ace, you're a world class dumb ass.

  • You still don't get it you make an oath what the hek did you expect to happen go into a war zone and see flowers every where and people hugging passing out money. It's the military that's the idea period end of the conversation there is going to be messed up stuff you could accentally kill a child you could save a child. It's that plain and simple.

  • Yes, you make an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have not been declared (unconstitutional). Unconstitutional wars merely expand the powers of the executive branch (step closer to fascism). Since Eisenhowers warning in 1961 war has never been declared and the defense industries profits and campaign contributions have surpassed the powers of the Constitution.

  • you are their slave..their distant brutal arm..if you think you're man enough to be a marine then you are man enough to take after your own..

  • let's let all the fear mongering hate filled men and women out there that think they are too 'TUFF' for their own good join the military. they will see first hand what the military is and what it isn't .. if they are indeed 'strong' enough to go about the orderly-strict / treated like a mule lifestyle then let them find out for themselves this isn't for them. the saddest realization will be the military is not there for you..it's there for the lovely fat cats not fighting there own war.

  • ok, so let's say that ALL men turned pussies over night. No one would have "the guts" to pick up a weapon & defend his country, but that again there would be no "brave men" to attack it in the first place.

Let's say ALL men turned hard core: we've got nukes don't we?

No other specie on earth has furthered consciousness as much as we have [or maybe the wales are keeping it to themselves:) ] Is this what our concepts of "my god, my country, justice & freedom"are good for? killing one another?

  • What did any one of those troops think the rifle, bullets and bayonets were for? A giant small pest removal removal system. As long as recorded history militaries have had to kill to protect the city states. Who paid for the stupidity of this film? Who is so uneducated and ignorant that no read history? I practice health care but, if you are a soldier then you are a soldier. See part about the job description and Socratic reasoning. I guess the answers did not fit the truth so you made this film!

  • Did you remove that gigantic H.I.V. infested penis from your mouth before or after you made this comment heatsketch?

  • there is no draft, faggot. if you can't take the military, don't sign up. anyone who signed up for the army after 9/11 and didn't think they were going to war is a moron who has no right to complain

  • No man is supposed to come back from an experience like that and be completely fine! If you were over there and saw tiny child corpses strewn accross the streats because of bombs you fired, can you honestly say that you could come back to the US and function like any other person in the society? The fact is that the experience changes you. Do you think they care a fuck about which colour to paint their house or where they go on the annual family vacation?

  • How can you expect something like that from someone? They have seen the suffering, been a part of it, caused it. I don't blame people for not coming back from that (it separates the humans from the monsters). Why should you?!

  • LOL

a doc by the bitches who rang the bell and went home crying

"they systematically break you down boo hoo hoo"

yeah, dumbass, it's the fucking military, they can't expect you to go kill people if you are still in the soft suburban mindset.

WHAT THE FUCK DID THEY EXPECT WHEN THEY SIGNED UP, A FUCKING TEA PARTY?

fucking pussies, if they don't like it they should stay home

  • True, I am currently in the military and respect HeatSketch's comment. Hes right, what the fuck did these faggots expect when they signed up?

  • who cares that? this boys are tortured phisical and psychological way after enter in combat. then when they come back, they get more violent or more sad of what they have feel during the brutal training.the 11/9 is reason for passing trough this? no, i dont think so

  • cardlizard - you are apparently clueless, ill-informed, and unteachable. And I am quite sure you never served. As a veteran, I appreciate this film - it tells our story. Not all vets will agree with the message, but it is undeniable that many of us do. Conservatives have nearly destroyed this country over the last 30 years - not sure if the liberals have the guts - or ideas - to save it, but we'll see.

  • It's strange, back during the election the military was polled and something like 80% of soldiers in the military identified as conservative.

and yet 80-90% of the people who claim to be vets on youtube blame everything on conservatives

  • i believe those 80% conservative might of changed their views a bit once they saw first hand what their 'duty' really is. these are young impressionable minds..i think a similar poll would tell you the same percent follow what ever politics their parents were/are..people change especially when they are shown the truth about something they thought differently about. get with the program mr. heatsketch.

  • wow how patriotic is this ..video ..idiot liberals you think so irrationally (andi don't care about my spelling or grammer ) you are constantly attacking the military ,the police ,the church ,you are incecently trying to pc the fuck outta the world ..it is sickening who cares about fucking migratory patererns of rieghndeer if we need to build ap ipe line that crosses there migration pattern who cares , if where they gotta go is soo important ..they'll get there don't worry . Thank you

  • You weenys would never have made it in WWII or Viet Nam. Of cource the military breaks you down and then rebuilds you. They have to get the "Momma's Boy" out of you and make you into a person who can defend America. Well it sounds like the Military did not break you down enough. Rather than joining the Man's Military, you should have stayed home with your momma. I served from 1965 - 1969 and I am proud of my service to America!

  • Does it make you proud to be one of the ones to fight other countries over oil? WWII and Viet Nam were over oil. Just think we can be using hydrogen(you know, water) and not fighting or polluting. Let me guess............ your a brain washed republican!!(rob every person until blood lies in countries and nations)

  • Why America Entered World War II

Most importantly, Japan attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, without a declaration of war or any warning that hostlities were being commenced, sinking most of the battle fleet.

President Roosevelt never asked for war with Italy or Germany before the Congress. Instead, three days after December 7th, Italy and Germany declared war on the United States. So much for your Oil theory huh?

  • WORLD WAR II WAS FOR OIL!

hahaha congrats, thats the stupidest thing ive heard all month. holy shit your brain is fried hahaha

  • just researched on world war II oil war, hate to say it but it is true. This shit has got to stop. I guess our government is being ran by oil lords. I think it sucks!!

  • Just out of curiosity, who was responsible for 9/11?

  • Osama Ben Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda . And the Question should be why is he not DEAD? The United States of Americas political and military leadership has, on at least three separate occasions, chosen not capture or kill bin Laden. CIA agents tracked Osama bin Laden to the Hindu Kush Mountains. One actually had him in his gun-sights but was told to abort his mission and stand-down until further advised. Research Please!

  • @thetruthnomorelies Oil men and Bankers. Poor die for the rich, same as it always has been throughout history. Nothing has changed about humanity.

  • So what exactly are you doing to save energy? Do you own a car, computer, drink your water from any kinda bottle? We import 70% of our oil because people won't wake up and realize we have those resources right here. Oh, we might disturb some wildlife! Are you kidding me? The Greeny Weenies have pushed these issues so we can't drill, but change is a comin!!! And her name is Sarah.

  • oh... just missed it! Sorry buddy... no redneck hick from some ass backwoods background with her white trash husband and her teenage pregnant daughter are going to run this country, not as long as there are some people with a dash of common sense left in it.

  • Perhaps then it was a service to America but right now it's a service to oil companies and greedy assholes with more money than they need.

  • Our country is slowly imploding.

History tells us great ancient civilazations, Greek, Roman, Persian Empires, all fall just when a government or dictator acts as it or they have become the biggest superpower and ignore logic, reason and justice for the sake of Pride, power and wealth they all fall hard.

I sure hope America wakes up from this funk, stops being just consumers and "fat cats" or else we will all pay sooner rather than later

  • Sad fact is that joining the army is the only choice many people have. Even if you are a middle-class American, you are hardly pay to put one kid in college.

  • yes that's very true, and isn't that a happy coincidence for these war lords? they manufacture the biggest economic meltdown, they steal the money everyone pays with their taxes and give it to the rich, and now the only way out of poverty for many poor and middle class people is the military.

  • i saw this and i consider myself to love most people i celebrate diversity, so when i hear that they have to run over kids it breaks my heart. A man who has a kid is tormented bc he has to remember or think of the kids he had to run over, and how it could of been his child.

Many aren't for peace, but what if we were in the position of innocent Iraqis who are being killed by soldiers of either side....

    ...It's heart breaking...

  • I'm so very glad you made this...this documentary is great....there is so much more i could say...i'm proud of the film makers

  • Sad thing is our leaders don't give a shit about the rabble...now that would be all of us poor smucks who weren't born with a silver spoon in our mouths or is not part of the 1% enjoying the REAL loot generated by the empire's endless wars... "Military men are just dumb stupid animals to be used as pawns in foreign policy."- Henry Kissinger

  • Yo! Dennis Kucinich For President 2008. ONLY Dem Presidential Candidate who will bring troops home NOW! And his 12 point Iraq plan will bring sovereignty and reparations to the Iraqi people, bring in a non-U.S. peacekeeping force, and get multinational corporations & U.S. military bases out of Iraq. dennis4president dot com

  • America please, vote for change!

    YouTube: Ron Paul!

  • Ron Paul is now the ONLY presidential candidate who says, "Just bring them home". Clinton and the other Dems say - by 2013. Wake up America. Google Ron Paul.

  • If you this video Check out my video bring the soldiers home

  • He's not the ONLY one. Kucinich agrees, but goes even further, not willing to wait until he's president. Kucinich is calling for the impeachment of both Bush and Cheney. Honestly I would be very proud if either Paul or Kucinich lead this country but it's difficult to get voters to sway away from the popular candidates, funded by the same investors as those in office.

  • gravel too

  • yeah i agree with the 20 out of 100,00+ military members isnt even close to the "Soldiers opinion" get it in the 100's and ill start believing it wasn't a politically motivated film. Just another move on dot org funded ad is all

  • Nothing new but hopefully this generation will be smarter and demand if our children than every, (politian, business man, ect.), child will have to go!!!!!!

  • Is to be a mindless drone and I know soldiers aren't that and I know they question orders if not out loud then in their mind. You are counting on a citizen population that is too busy living their own lives then to march on Washington and demand their government back. Of course if we did that there would be Marshall law and would you fire on a fellow American because Bush gave the order to?

  • I've heard that said by soldiers on tape. That they would do just that. I don't know how many would, but America's civilian population is the 3rd largest military in the world.

  • Bush is counting on your morals being weak so he can impose his upon you. He calls himself christian but there is nothing christian about that man. He proves his hypocroisy by his words and actions, and gets video taped going to church so the christians will follow him. They elected him twice, that is how fooled they are.

  • I was busted more than three times for failure to follow orders, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. I wasn't firing upon anyone who didn't hold a weapon. I don't care what they did to me. It is your own moral standpoint that you need to worry about not the militarys.

  • Nice flip flopping. Are you whining now?!?

  • Urnofun, you hit the nail on the head, these guys are just whining.

  • It's time to get them out. Tell Bush and his buddies to get their own oil. God Protect and Bless the soldiers, and enlighten the simple people who can't think past their own petty lives.

  • This war is going to last a long time. Just look at how long those people have hated Israel, and you think they won't come after us with the same vigor? You think this is over oil, it is to some degree, for the rich in this nation. To me this war is about the 3,000 Americans they killed in cold blood, time to return the favor and then some. Kill them all, Kill them all.

  • Oh please little girl. Talking while hiding behind your computer? A pussy like you wouldnt last 3 seconds in Iraq. Then again they dont allow women like you in combat

  • You well muslimghost I guess we will just lump you in there with the nut job of a government we have. Oh and some of your muslim spokesmen you have you need to replace for lack of good judgement. Ours is not the only government who is crazy I do believe you have a few in your part of the world. Minus the one's WE HAVE KILLED.

  • wow you're fucking retarted urnofun if you think iraq has anything to do with 9/11.

  • i don't understand you. i agree completely that we are controlled by our government. we should take back the military state that our country has become. and i applaud you for not firing on unarmed civilians. but why do you say kill them all? kill the fundamentalists, yes, maybe, but the innocent civilians? no. they have nothing to do with this war that we have imposed on them.

  • Iraqis are already a fast growing refugee population. Not that easy to run with your kids, no money and no where to go. So yes, some run for their life when there can and some others try to live a normal life, going to school ..taking the daily risk of never coming back home alive

  • That said, this one story is different there is one in that story who has a right to complain. They made their choice and now they have to live with it. One of the hardest things grown-ups have to do. We live and die by the choices WE make. If you don't want this war then move to a different country that is what some have done. This nation is at war and will be at war with the terrorists of this world

  • Your a bonified piece of shit. I could give two shits who you are or what you've been through. Any of it I'm sure is a lie anyway. What the fuck would you know about them and their "whine?" are you in their shoes? Have you had yourface blown off? No you havn't. Now you can go whine to whom ever, or what ever blows your 3" cock and tell 'em/it that sombody picked on you.

    -Corpsman Second Class

  • A 2006 National Intelligence Estimate, a report of the consensus views of all intelligence agencies, said flatly that the Iraq War undermines the war on terror. It warned that the worst threat we now face is from "dispersed, self radicalizing" terror cells that are almost impossible to engage, let alone defeat, in pitched battles.

  • War on terror scifiwriter98? There was never even an organization called Al-Qaeda. It's a "pink elephant".

    18:50 Obliterate posse comitatus

    19:40 outsourcing the US Military.

  • Propaganda Bullshit! Cowards!

  • Those wimps that are now whining about their service to our nation, you should be shot for treason. I served in the first Iraq war, ran over Iraqi's with a track vehicle. War changes you but it does not controll you unless you let it. I was sent there to do a job and I did my job, our job was not finished the first time so we return to complete the mission.

  • If you think the Iraq war is about protecting America... then YOU aren't american... or a free thinker... or a patriot. This war is about money and oil. Pure and simple. You should be shot for treason for patronizing people who you claim are protecting our country.

  • Life isn't fair. Deal with it.

  • Killing of survival, train you how to hatred, welcome to all trigger happy. In return, enemies return fire with NO MERCY. What the Hell is American invented those Killing Machine and Hatred Army spread all over the world being a National Police. What is the real meaning of the War!

  • the real meaning of this war is kill them before they kill us. Muslims who are terrorists claim that we must convert to Islam or die. Now that they have threated me and my nation I say kill 'em all let God sort them out. Keep listening to all the prop that all the people pour out don't follow your own instincts just keep doing what these dumb a-holes tell you to do.

  • Ever made a mistake? Well, those troops who want to come home now realize the big mistake they made... only to have a Desert Storm Vet make light of the terror and helplessness they feel. But, you ran over Iraqi's with a track vehicle... So when it comes to murder you are obviously enlightened. The sad fact is you believe all this... that's probably the reason you were in Desert Storm in the first place... You're not too bright.

  • You're the idiot, you have no idea what you are talking about. I can respect those that were there serving and may have experianced pain, and/or hardship but you, you sit behind your little laptop complaining, villifying all who do serve. You can call me all the names you want too, but anytime you want to really settle this we can meet!

  • Yea we have all made mistakes just like the one you are making now by buying into all the crap the media and extremists are feeding you. You grow fat on lies and misleadings, you can call me all the names you want to but it will not change the fact that you know not what you type about. Sad but true.

  • a crazy american called dumbya and hi buddies caused the entire mess

  • I'm sorry but maybe the recruits should've thought more about what being a soldier means instead of just listening to the cash benefits up front. You mean in war you see dead people?? NO WAY! I totally respect people who CHOOSE this line of work, but it's on them to make their own decisions. Why is the blame always on someone else?

I imagine this movie ends with some of the recruits suing the military for stupid things like having to wear camouflage.

  • One can make a strong case that the initial decisions to go to war were seriously flawed, but I don't understand the long term plan if you favor immediately withdrawl from Iraq. Where is the *positive and effective course of action*?

  • Great stuff! Americans will never get balanced information from "Mainstream Media" - and until more people DO have a better understanding ("The other side of the story"), we will be victimized and abused by our government. PLEASE tell everyone you can, to watch the BBC documentary "The Power of Nightmares." It's on Google video and YouTube. Education (understanding DIS-information) is the only way out this trap... Take care!

  • so disturbed by this documentary..I wish people wouldnt place such ill judgement on Iraqi people..we are so ill-informed, we never get to hear their side of the story. What reason do american soldiers have to kill those who are innocent? We can't judge until we see the injustice with our own eyes...

  • It's ridiculous to think that America is doing any good for Iraq. Would you like Pakistan to invade America and change our government because democracy is failing us?

  • good point

  • It seems our chance to rebuild Iraq through military means has passed... as long as our troops are there it is going to attract insurgents from outside. The best we could do is to pull out the majority of troops and try to heal Iraq through humanitarian organizations. I was over there when things weren't as bad as they are now, but it was so sad to see the people suffering after their infrastructure had been crushed through the sanctions from years past and from our bombing.

  • Humanitarian? It's going to take a lot more than that when those troops leave. As much as I hate to say it, those troops there are the only thing holding that country together. If we leave, the question is how long will the civil war last and how bloody will it be until another regime takes over and installs power.

  • How do you know that those troops are holding together Iraq. Have you been there or do you believe what you hear in the media? If all US troops pull out nothing will happen. Troops over there have no result on my security as a US citizen. I have never seen a crazy Iraqi try and bomb me in my home.

  • American troops are the only things keeping Iraqis from killing each other. If Iraqi history is true.

Troops over there DO have an effect on your security. If there were no troops, Iraq would be a haven for terrorists. Which some, are already on their way.

If it's only your home, threated by an Iraqi, you're worried about, then you're clueless. I'm in Chicago. Does that make the attacks in New York on 9/11 none of my concern?

  • how do u know they aren't holding together iraq?

  • A crazy Iraqi named Abdul Rahman Yasin built the bombs that exploded in the WTC in 1993, 8 years later - 9/11.

I wonder what could happen 2 years from now??

  • Iraq has no interest in humanitarian efforts. They want their Kurd, Sunni, Shiite wars. They don't care about civil peace.

I think we should actually leave. If they kill or destroy themselves, oh well. They can't live together because of some 2 thousand year old dispute. And somehow we've automatically become the enemy.

  • WOW who is the guy at 1:44?

  • TheIraq war is an important issue, but the Democrats are not any help they are more interest in gaining political power by undermined the operation in Iraq, they show not real concern for outcome of the war or the consequences if we pull out now.

  • Your ignorance shines brighter than neon. The simple fact is... we should not be there. Plain and simple. Trying to save American lives that are being wasted is the MOST honorable thing we can do as civilians. Whatever consequences from pulling out of Iraq is solely on our Commander in Chief's head. And that idiot deserves all the blame.

  • Not all the blame, I don't think, though he is a large part of it, we all could do our part in getting this stupid painful war to end. I just wish people had more motivation.

  • We elected that Commander in Chief so that makes all Americans responsible wether you voted or not. If you are not responsible then YOU are not AMERICAN.

  • You...sir... are an imbocile. Volunteering for the armed services is about the most idiotic thing you can do. Of course, poverty has alot to do with the enlistment numbers, as well as scared, confused kids who are promised they're getting funding for college... only to die before taking a class.

  • If you think that when we pull the troops out of Iraq that the terrorist are coming back here you sir are the imbocile. Time will show who is right too bad you get to run your mouth in the mean time. Put a toliet roller on the side of your head so you can wipe your mouth after all that S**t comes out, Timotheous.

  • Truly classic. Sounds like your jealosy of not being able to publicly sell your sob story has made you bitter and cynical. The sad fact is this... we are at war and you are not there. Your tour is over. Let the soldiers that are still active be able to voice thier opinion, under the freedom given to them by The Bill of Rights, without labeling them weak. I suggest you sign back up and hit the road, because it's obvious this war to you is about REVENGE.

  • If the soldiers were so smart they would realize that the oath they took was to defend the country and the constitution from enemies forgien and domestic. Not to defend a nut job of a government who can not and has proven will not make a sound judgement call.

  • urnofun: Part of that oath is to take orders, and when you're IN the military, that's exactly what you do. It's not the job of the military to get us out of an immoral war; that's the job of the citizenry back home, and we have to do it by holding our elected officials accountable for their actions.

  • No where in the oath you swore upon entry into the armed services do you say to take orders. I took that oath and I know. When you are IN the military you have a chose whether to follow those orders and if your moral backbone is so weak that you kill innocents then you deserve the fall out for such a killing.

  • Funny, I attended two reenlistments this morning. Part of the swearing in; which is the same as initial entry is to obey the orders of those appointed over me. I'm willing to bet that you're one of those phony pricks that never served or enlisted but was kicked out and now purport yourself to be a war hero with photos plastered all over with you in a uniform with bogus medals, like 6 purple hearts, 14 bronze stars and an Army, Navy, Air force Cross which ever branch you claim to have been in.

  • So don't tell me it is in the oath, for it is not. Bush claims to be christian but he is not, his words and action prove his hypocrisy. It is your choice to follow orders, and yes I know the heat you take I took it. To just follow orders from a commander in chief who is working his own agenda and not what the People want.

  • The video one-sided? Possibly. But no more one-sided than our current administration is. Americans were presented with only one side when we went into Iraq. I don't recall us getting much say in the matter. Bush presents one side, the film presents another.

  • But now we have to ask ourselves a simple question: Yes, we caused this huge mess, but do we want to stick around and try to stop something that's unstoppable, or do we want to call it quits? To that question, I really don't know the answer.

  • As for politics, in Iraq, politics and religion have merged as one. Now, thanks to a little help from a US invasion, there is basically no stopping a Sunni, Shiite and Kurd civil war. It will be bloody. It will be catastrophic. And Iraq will not stabilize for a long time.

  • The lands of the Middle East have had civilizations since the dawn of time, with traditions that have been established over millenia. Does anyone really expect them to drop all that so that the US can bombard them with blockbuster movies, huge corporations, and economies that only the superpowers really control. Of course not.

  • Finally, tjw12. You are absolutely right. On the surface, religion is the main factor that is tearing this world apart (not like that's a new thing). But right below that instigator is politics and culture. Differing culture is what is causing the chaos between the West+Israel and the Middle East.

  • FreedomFighter XL, I believe you are a bit naive about our country's lower class. The military provides its people with free education, trips to unique locales, and (most importantly)an escape from the gangs and high-crime rates in their own neighborhoods. For many its either die in their neighborhood or be a hero. Some people really do have "no place else to go".

  • Moving on, rafink702, you said "tell that to the Jihadists" in a response to someone saying we can't draw lines. I'd like to agree with you, those fools blow up innocent people and try to scare and pressure us into fighting at their level (where we would ultimately lose). But we must rise above them if we want any hope of peace in this destructive environment.

  • This post is in response to a few comments on this forum. At the start, however, I would like to say that I'm really not sure what I think about this film. Like many of you, I really appreciate being given two sides of an issue. While it is perfectly acceptable for Op-Ed pieces to be one-sided, I feel documentaries owe viewers the respect of letting them choose their own beliefs.

  • 2) I have not seen ONE show that lets me believe things are better over there. FOX news is good at talking about it. I'd like to see it. Point me towards a show that i can watch regular Iraqi's playing in parks with their kids. Eating and drinking water that isn't polluted or living a better life post Saddam. I WANT TO SEE THAT!

  • Most shows on the Military Channel about Iraq may show that...i've seen it on there

  • Thanks, I'll be looking. Most of the shows I've seen are on Discovery Times.

  • 1) I can understand people being mad about this film being one sided. I agree the media focuses on the bad lots more than the good, but every single person I've talked to who knows people there say there is more good going on than bad. I don't buy it. When I watch this and other documentaries about the War being Hell on Earth I want the troops home.

  • here is my sweeping generalization! anyone who sees another angle is a poopyhead!

  • I'll be honest towards this film. I'm sure they don't want people to experience whatever harshness in the military they're referring too, but perhaps they should make this less of a Michael Moore style film. I would find it twice as credible if it let the pro-Iraq vets have their say. 'Till then, forget this crap.

  • I have seen this great video.

  • Does anyone else feel like they're being taken on a political ride? This video feels like an empty response from the left with no substance other than THEY DID BAD. The media is bursting with this generic message as if the text book reads that everyone votes Democratic in the next election. As long as we continue to react to their message we continue to be guided by the same forces which led us into war in the first place.

  • Shame on everyone who says they have no other future! THESE PEOPLE ARE NOBLE AND WANT TO SERVE THEIR COUNTRY. My fiancee and his whole family are in the Navy and they serve because they feel a calling, not because they are DUPED. You people make me sick.

  • people who think they help people by going to war make me sick

  • I'm fine with that:)

  • blackfootnawaho, oh nevermind you aren't worth wasting my fingers over.

  • War is such a dirty word... Natural selection! Now that has a nice ring to it!

I agree, war really sucks but it is as old as prostitution so I prefer to think of it as something linked to nature in some way. Makes it easier to grasp.
