The Beatles are so over rated as a band and as a talent as well, unfortunately Led Zeppelin will never receive the recognition they deserve as a band and as for the Beatles they were just a Bubble Gum Band including everything from fad songs to the Yellow Submarine wow Led Zeppelin is by far the greatest band in the history of Rock N Roll so who cares about the Beatles
@free2bekirk You're obviously a Led Zeppelin extremist. To say that The Beatles never did anything is just wrong. I would say that in overall music, The Beatles were more influential, however without Led Zeppelin we wouldn't have a lot of modern rock.
@free2bekirk thanks for sharing YOUR opinion. Both bands you talk about have been revered in Rock-n-Roll for both of their influences on music. The Beatles were/are great; as were Led Zeppelin. Both bands had members in them influenced by other musicians (early RnR and Blues guitarists especially) and they in turn have been influential to many musicians today. Led Zeppelin is/was a great band and I'm thankful they created. But the Beatles are not over-rated.
when i listen to this song, and i hear the crap we go to listen to now a days i wonder, bands like this are never gonna hapen again????? it doesnt get any better than this.
I LOVE THIS SONG.......want to know some juicy gossip about led zeppelin that they dare not print in the magazines......go to "eleanor rigby nzoz1971" and read my 3 comments. regards.
Is it strange for a gay man to dedicate this song to a straight woman? Such a beautiful ballad. Someone said that George Harrison told Robert Plant the only problem with Zep's music was that they didn't have any ballads, so Zep did Thank You. Can anyone confirm that story? Not sure if I believe it or not. Don't think Robert cared one way or the other of what George thought of Zep's music.
@62jape ......Thanks for clearing that up for me. I didn't think Thank You was written because of a conversation, don't know why I had that doubt, just did. Thanks again.
@cleverlouanne Yes, I know the story as well - it's what prompted The Rain Song, with Page paying tribute to Harrison's Bealtes classic Something with the half-step drop in the opening guitar part. What struck me was that Harrison was wrong; Zep had indeed written a ballad, this masterful classic we have here.
@seejay1001 ......Thanks for letting me know that..started to think I was going nuts. I hate it when people tell you things w/o making sure they have the facts right. Of course, that conversation was way back in high school, and ole boy probably thought he was stating a fact. I'd forgotten about it until I was in here listening to it, and the story told to me just didn't seem logical to me.
@seejay1001 I don't know where you are getting your facts but the Beatles were never inspiration to any of Zep's songs. As a matter of fact Page says it on the How the West Was Won video. This song was written for Maureen Plant, Roberts wife. These Lyrics were penned by Plant alone, it took alot of ribbing to get Plant to pen a love ballad. He said he would like to write this for his wife. Zep was never inspired by the Beatles, they were Delta Blues boys. Look at the interview on HTWWW video.
@pagefan1 Actually, the guitarist of The Beatles, George Harrison, was a main inspiration for "The Rain Song" after making a comment to John Bonham that the group hadn't written any ballads. So, you sir, are wrong.
@JimmyPageMarley1 Ya maybe the Rain Song, but I was commenting on the song presented here which I believe is "Thank You" NOT the "Rain Song Different song different topic!!!!!!!! And you can call me Miss....
@pagefan1 I apoligize ma'am. But saying that The Beatles were not any inspiration to Led Zeppelin is wrong, because they are. So, you ma'am, or wrong.
@JimmyPageMarley1 The beetles were an inspiration to everyone but zeppelin got their inspiration from so many other places too. Blues, funk, reggae, folk, country, pop, you name it.
@97EJM No this song is not homosexual, music does not have sexual orientation. Please do not post things this ignorant, being, your comment implied this was a bad song which is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, and I am now dumber for having read it. Not to mention your implications that homosexuality is bad, as gay people are usually cooler than us straight people. You sir are a space wasting sack of ignorance. I have guns, and I will find you. Now you better get back to sucking that dick.

The lines : "If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you.
When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me"
sound very close to Hendrix's - 'If 6 was 9' where he says :
" If the sun refuse to shine,
I don't mind, I don't mind,
If the mountains fell in the sea,
let it be, it ain't me."
