@007malikai if you watch the film this clip is from you will see Jet Li is doing kung fu and the other guy is a Karate master. And strictly speaking WuShu is not a "type" of kung fu it is the generic term for Martial arts in China, although is commonly used these days in reference to the highly stylised demonstrative aspects of "kung Fu"
@flashlight67 the Karate Master is intended to portray Funikochi Sensei, A master of Shotokan karate, the other is Chen sen of jing wu mon. Sorry for my bad spelling.
what i dont get is ppl watchin a bruce lee movie they finish it and then they want to be just like him so the go and learn karate thumbs up if u see wats wrong with that.
@KatsumotoYamada Bushido? You even know what Bushido is? Karate is a Budo art, but Bushido isnt a specific martial art, everyone can follow the bushido. Saying "This is not karate, this is bushido" just proves how dumb you are in your comment.
I'd say he means the "karate" master is using Koryu. as in the Koryu arts of Ju jitsu and okinawa te. which was Karate as it was trained and used pre 1920.
people are dumb these days you cant say an art wins because of a movie you saw or a oppinion on youtube! You have to try them out yourselves its not the martial art which makes it effective it only who your teacher is and how effective YOU are at practicing and applying the art. You cant say jeet kun do is the best art because bruce lee was the best martial artist! thats like saying its the art which makes you, and not the person anyone can practice it just noone is as good as the other person.
This movie is based on a bruce lee remake . To me its to similar to yip man who coincidently Bruce lee learned from.
Ive seen plenty of tiger kung fu and crane kung fu etc get wiped by most martial arts including karate . If you search hard enough there is a video of yip mans kung fu vs karate and its a draw. I have respect for all martial arts even if I don't always agree with there moves.

chinese people make so many kung fu vs karate movies for the reason that they hate japs. I know this is scripted but in reality, the end result of the match would probably be the same thing
@thegamerman7 to be honest bruce lee was probably the best actor aswell i mean im a huge jackie chan fan but he plays the same character in almost all of his movies
@thegamerman7 they are all actors, please be wise enough to differenciate between fact and fiction. even Bruce Lee's movie fight scenes were Choreographed. Or did you think they were real
@Dobbersky I know, but Bruce Lee used very little special effects. The only thing he used (not counting fake blood and props) was slow motion (to see his moves better) and whatever he used to make it look like he did a really high kick in that one movie.
As I've mentioned in the other video from this movie, this is not JKD. It is a form of free-boxing of that time period. A mixture of Mi Zong Quan (Mix of Hong Quan and Yong Chun) and free style fighting. At the time of this story, Bruce Lee was not even born yet, and proper Bruce Lee influenced JDK (A derivative of his master Ip Man's Yong Chun) has practically no blocking; hence "Way of the Intercepting Fist".
@DragonAge2k It was a draw, actually. The point wasn't to win, but to help prepare Chen Zen for the kind of fight he'd be facing against the japanese general.
I never was much for karate, but I've always admired this fight scene. The japanese guy really portrays what karate (or any martial art) is supposed to be. fast and agile. I would say karate in this case is pretty comparable to chinese wing chun gong fu! Which I am partial to.
@fishertg Funny you say that, because karate has its roots in Southern kung fu. But to clarify, speed and agility are really aspects of Japanese style of karate. @deek77 i do agree karate has its roots in chinese martial arts but not kung fu. because kung fu is just what america and most of the world calls chinese martial arts in china martial arts isnt called kung fu. kung fu are words that describe anything that requires skil thats gained from effort so a painter can have good kung fu. karate's roots are Naha-te, Shuri-te, Tomari-te and various chinese arts such as chinese kenpo which is what japanese call chinese martial arts
Taekwondo goes along the lines of defending yourself without killing someone because if you kill someone, you will go to jail. So the only lethal attack they've tought me is kneeing someone in the forehead.
i hate those titles like "Kung fu vs. Karate". In this case it should be "Two good fighters testing their abilities" instead. As any good master says, everything depends on the fighter, not on the art. Some people seriously should learn that.
i'm tired of seeing kungfu always winning, at least here you can see a draw, if people think kungfu is better, then watch mas oyama, he was a very good fighter, and the creator of kyokushin karate
