nathanforst1: I'm 22, and have been a victim of what you described as "childhood indoctrination." (hope i'm spelling that right ) Honors go to my Father for that. To make this as short as possible, I want to say thank you for this video, and for what you said. You are a very powerful speaker, sir, and it moved me on several different levels. I am still trying to deal with my fear of rejection, but your words have given me new-found courage. I thank Crosisborg for his recommendation of you.
man i just found and subscribed to you, you awesome! I'm pagan, my wife and i had a handfasting last october and i know first hand these christians/muslims/catholics etc....are negitive, hypocrites and self rightous who use their man wrtiien book as an exucse for their actions. Good for you to stand up to these nutjobs.
Blessed be sir )0( i hope to see more vid from you :)
i agree with 99% of this, except the part about her father throwing her to the wolves. i thought about it from my perspective, let's say i came on youtube and started expressing my atheistic views, and a number of people started calling me names or attacking me, so i took them down and left youtube, but then i tell my mum about it and she explains to me that we have something called freedom of speech, and that i shouldn't let the bigots silence my opinion, that i have every right to speak
I find it silly how he uses the same method of arguing over and over again to everyone he dislikes - the one where he tries to turn it on people... before he eats them :(
I've noticed something about all the hillbilly christian folk, they strive to make you SO cross that you'll make a mistake! Like i was arguing against a muslim last month and some self-righteous dude started defending him saying the most insulting things about my intelligence, I realised he was trying to make me angry
Be careful with that representingtruth guy.. If you saw my comments on his video (the one where he actually shows his face) i told him that he reminds me of hannibal lecter :(
The guy really is a wackjob. The funny thing is that he still trolls my channel. He is an attention whore and just wants me to make another video to him. I was about to a couple of days ago and then changed my mind. He's a fucking dick and doesn't deserve the attention.
I'm a parent, and I would beat my daughter's ass if she made ANY youtube videos, especially one on such a controversial topic. No matter how hateful and bigoted her family's opinions are, they should know that those videos could follow her around for the rest of her life and affect her future career and relationships. Her father is extremely irresponsible.
You might enjoy the videos of Apologetics' dad and Apologetics on my page. When you get a chance, please check them out and let me know what you think.
i understand that you are angry, or maybe furious, towards this person and possibly to people who are like this, but i find it that people like this, along with religous people, racist/sexist people, and other types of rednecks, won't listen to this and will keep doing what he is doing
despite the fact that your target is most likely an ignorant fool, you present a great point that i am proud to say that i agree with, keep up the great work
This is one of the best slams of childhood indoctrination I've ever seen. You friggin "owned" representingtruth. Awesome!! More people need to sub to you right now.
I grew up in the Jehovah's Witnesses cult. Talk about indoctrination! I've got horror stories that will curl any rational thinker's hair.
I haven't even attempted to make a video about this. I don't think I could remain calm during it.
I agree that Apologetics must take responsibility for her attitudes and beliefs, but like you Nathan, I believe that she is a victim of indoctrination which most definitely is a form of abuse.
Good on you for targeting the abuser, not the victim.
I will make a video if time permits... in the meantime enjoy your day... and I'll just post my last thoughts...
Family relationships can often become strained around certain beliefs that members have and they are not limited to religion. My father is a strong believer in the work ethic and in being economically productive. I am not and do as little as possible to get by.
We have learned to disagree over this and although I can see it is there and he disapproves quite strongly about the way I live my life I choose to spend time with him and we enjoy our relationship which is strong in other areas and we have common ground where we can love each other. I have also had to learn to unthink some of the shoulds and musts that I have been indoctrinated with from a young age about how life should be lived.
At times that is difficult and has resulted in periods of depression and lack of self-belief and has made my enjoyment of my life less than it could have been. Strangely enough I feel no compulsion to challenge his beliefs and let him have them or blame him. We all will transmit this stuff to our children and we all will as Philip Larkin said fuck them up to a certain extent. How they and we unpick this and become ourselves is part of the joy of life.
As always, if you have something to say, say it! Tell me when you think I'm wrong. I respect people that speak their minds. You are one of the first people I "met" here on YouTube. I don't want to lose you.
And finally... your arguments are better when they are not punctuated by abusive comments.
Tell me why these are qualitatively different from and do not encourage this kind of statement left on the guy's channel?
"Your daughter makes my dick howl at the moon. that is, when she isn't talking. I hope she gets gang banged by a group of angry lesbians, you bigotted fuck bait."
I refer mostly to the video where you have disabled comments.
I think this is probably the most interesting of Dick Dawkins' arguments and also the most problematic. Is there an agreed 'standard' of what it is acceptable to teach your children? Is there a ministry of misinformation that pronounces as unacceptable certain beliefs? In terms of religion is there an Atheistic Big Brother out there demanding that people will be held accountable for not toeing the party line?
I find this more disturbing than families bringing their children up to be like them. That seems a natural process to me. The rabid army that delights in abusing people for their beliefs in the name of reason does not reflect the spirit of Enlightenment but the spirit of Inquisition. A new breed of closed minded folk has been bred and 'indoctrinated.'
Maybe this is the way of man as very few seem to be able to not become so attached to what they believe that they abstain from directing anger at dissenters to their opinion or way of thinking.
I sense that this is very personal to you... and maybe autobiographical? Did your parents abandon and reject you? Maybe if this is true you could direct your bile towards them and not towards a guy trying to bring his daughter up the best way he can. She will have her opportunities to test her beliefs against the world and see whether they work for her as you have.
You raise some good points, Colston. However, I do not think people have the right to teach their children whatever they want. Especially when what they preach is bigoted and directs hate towards another group of people. Legislating indoctrination laws is most likely not possible. I do not think I would agree with it even if they could. However, to be a responsible parent, I think an individual has to teach their child about the world and numerous belief systems. If the child chooses to be
different from the parent, then that is the child's choice. I have seen this time and time again, Colston. I have seen people come out to their parents, telling them of their differing opinions only to get the boot. And yes, this is personal to me. And yes, it is autobiographical. My parents eventually learned to put up with me... but not without strain. I cannot talk with my father without him bringing up my atheism.
Who makes the choice about what is reasonable though and what in the long term is harmful to a child? Is there any evidence that the pursuit of the objective truth in all things makes for a contented life?
What is harmful to a child is having a completely scewed perspective of reality. That is what religious indoctrination is. It does not give the child a clear and apparent view of the world. It does not prepare them for what is out there. There are many viewpoints, many cultures. To assume that one has all the answers just because your parents have told you so is foolish. The job of the parent is to prepare their child for the world and to present facts, letting the child decide for itself.
We'll continue this later. If you want, make a video response to me and I'll answer some of your questions. I have to get back to work or else I am going to get canned.
Now Ap will have, as you say, to overcome her indoctrination. The good news is that she is still young, so she still has the potential to break free and find her own path. Look at how many people on YouTube were raised fundamentalist Christian and eventually moved onto other better beliefs.
Nice job, Nathan. I hate seeing people being humiliated if it can be avoided. I hate indoctrination. It leads innocent people to believe every lie and every bigotry then spread hatre that comes from bad education. I hope she will learn to think by herself, open her mind to the world, cause humans come in different colors and shapes with different views and tastes, and that viewing the differences in life as an enrichment of our cultural baggage is way better than living cloistered in ignorance.
Apparently. This guy is a douchebag anyway. There is no hope for an actual intellectual debate here...because there is nothing to debate!
I like it how at the end of his video he got his daughter to jump out and start yelling at me, saying "POWNED!" I love it because... erm... how was I powned? LoL! ;P
just woundering when you are going to do that video answering questions that we your humble subs have asked, because i would love to have you answer my question thanks and keep doing your great vids
I am doing another Q&A video when I get the chance. I have been really sick recently. I don't know if you could see it in my video that I did today, but I am still sick. I had to reshoot the same scenes over and over again because I kept coughing. I didn't want to annoy you guys with it, so I kept reshooting and reshooting. It took a bloody long time.
