Have you been showing recently? I think the judge was making an excuse for a lower score. Your dog doesn't look chubby. He doesn't necessarily appear to be cow hocked either. The main problem is that he was being unruly and timid, which through off his lines and posture. No posture, no real way to judge conformation. Timidness and poor obedience also scores down.
If you're dog is doing better I would show him more. Once he stacks himself well he would score better.
This is why the ADBA is a joke among most serious dog owners. The fact that he said that your dog was perfectly structured, but basically too fat shows that the judge dosen't know what the hell he's doing and or looking for.
@82carly I don't understand where you are coming from with the ADBA President comment in response to what I had written. If it's about them being skinny, I clearly stated that that was my personal opinion. I don't like a skinny dog, nor do I like a fat dog. When I run my hand over a dog's side, I should be able to feel ribs. I should not see the ribs while standing still, but should see them while in movement. I should never see a pronounced spine or hip bones. Just my personal opinion.
@cptrbrown1 Also, there is a HUGE difference between a skinny dog and a athletic dog. A lot of people seem to think that skinny means athletic. The musculature is what defines athletic.
Sorry, but I have to agree with AmberFaithChloe. This show was not conducted well. The APBT should be a lively dog but also obedient. The third dog was barely managable and was consistantly being held up off it's front end by it's owner. Not one single owner properly stacked their dog. I've never seen a dog's bite being shown while the dog was held between the owner's legs. The dog's movement should be shown at the trot, not the walk. The whole purpose of a show is to display your dog to
it's greatest potential. Not one handler in this ring did that. The dogs were all over the place and handlers had no clue what they were doing. That is one of the reasons that I haven't dual registered my APBT bitch with ADBA. I find that the dogs are often too tall and too scrawny (the thrid dog was downright emanciated as the backbone was visable the entire length of the back while performing the down and back) for my looks. My APBT is by no means "fat" though I feel the AKC allows for
Oh, and how can a judge look at a dog's movement if the entire front end is lifted off the ground and half drug across the ring during the "out and back" like the first dog was?
@cptrbrown1 I agree and disagree with a few of your points. My dog is the first dog.... he's just a good looking family dog, not trained for shows, and I think he may have had to go #2 lol, but anyways, the dogs arent judged on how pretty they can walk, or how the owner stacks/leads the dogs, but on the dogs structure itself. All owner did show the dogs bite. AND like the video states, I personally felt the judges were not looking for the right things.... they were choosing the skinnier dogs
@82carly But again, it comes down to displaying your dog to his/her utmost potential. That is what the stacking it for. It shows your dogs physique. There is no "serious" training involved. It really comes down to good manners and basic obedience that all dogs should have. The dog should walk nicely on the leash and stand still with an alert expression. The way the dog moves also displays his structure. Faults can be hidden in a stack and then be seen in the action the dog has.
they look at everything really, mostly structure, standad APBT is aprox 50 lbs or smaller, chest size, legs, head, hips topline, teeth, tail, eyes, toes AND an APBT personality. which is not a prim stuck up dog =]
@BullyBreedsAddict No, you are a complete idiot. You have no idea what you're talking about you 20 year old baby. Not really surprising though that you don't know what a good topline looks like, since you don't know what an apbt looks like. You choose the AKC and UKC to be the prime apbt clubs whilst they don't have apbt shows. AKC = Amstaffs only, they proclaim the apbt = amstaff, which means they fail. UKC = bullys, whopper/bighead weightpulling dogs mixed with apbt= fail. Stick to labradors.
Seriously, if it's not AKC or UKC...it is not a real show. What are they judging??? With the dogs pulling and sniffing the ground, you cannot even tell their movement. Not to mention, none can stack worth a shit. Even if they did, their 'conformation' is nothing to be impressed with. I've seen pound dogs with more potential. This is as bad as a bully show.
LOL.... you never heard of the ADBA??? if you know anything about a true APBT you would know what the ADBA was... YES there are some dogs in hear that were a little "off" from standard, but this judge was a little picky with conditioning rather than structure... as you can see...
@BullyBreedsAddict You're just new and ignorant, everyone can tell. Hope you gained alot of new info since this reply, cause if it's AKC or UKC it's terrible. The only noteworthy shows are the ADBA and AADR. The AKC is so stuck up they don't even recognize the breed, and don't recognize a seperation of amstaff and apbt. These dogs were bred to be working dogs, having them move around shows their character and structure, whilst the overweight dogs at AKC and UKC stand around being fat thus ugly.
Calling people names, getting all so worked up & getting spittle all over your computer screen is not going to hide the fact that your dog does NOT follow the breed standard. It has a roached back like a GSD = bad & is timid = bad! No timid dogs should ever be shown. If you KNOW that your dog is shy, why show it then? And how do you know I have not done my research on APBTs? You watching me through a telescope? Take a chill pill & take constructive criticism. You don't like it, then that's sad.
And showing your dog in conformation shows, you WILL always get criticism from other exhibitors & judges. Get used to it even if you can't handle the truth & don't HIDE that fact that your dog is not exactly following the breed standard. This is my last post. I wish you & your dog the very best of luck & as an advice to you, think twice before you speak because verbally bashing people is not going to help at all. Cheers my friend!
It sure sounds like you don't know much about the APBT breed standard. They MUST have a ****level topline****. Roached, bent & severely sloping toplines are faults. And if this is a "legit" show, why is the judge judging that way? Who judges conformation dogs like that? I mean, come on... Didn't even lay one finger on the dogs. Too terrified thinking that he might get mauled is it? Gee.
Your a dumb bitch... all I can say is you need to do your research... the only fault my dog has according to BREED STANDARD is his timidness, (that would be shyness in case your dumbass didnt know that) and during this show he had a couple extra pounds.
Just wondering, what kind of show is this? I mean, the judge didn't even lay a finger on the dogs. Just looked. You're supposed to touch. Duh! What kind of judging is that? And your handling including everyone else's was bad! Some are not manageable & they're not stacked. How can you even call this a REAL show? And how can you say your dog is perfectly structured when clearly it is not? It's topline is sloping like a GSD & your dog is uncontrollable & lunging towards other dogs. Bad! Bad! Bad!
you are completely clueless as to what you are talking about... do you know ANYTHING about an ADBA show??? (well obviously not.) do your reasearch before you try to be a smart ass... it makes you look dumb.

more fat on the dogs then the UKC does. She's a nice weight with ribs noticable when working and nice muscleing throughout.
This is just my personal opinion.
Sorry if these replies end up in reverse order.
