  • I always think that Haydn is better than Mozart... in some aspects. I prefer the music by Haydn because I dislike opera and do not appreciate the excessive exhibitionism of most mozartian concertos. To sum up: Mozart is better in those genres that I most despise (opera) or less understand (concertant works).

It is exclusively a disccussion on personal preferences.

However, technically speaking, Haydn was better.

  • @Haydnthegenius ha, you on the haydn payroll? tell me more at your leisure. thanks for the commentary, it's quite astute

  • @kappelmeister123

Yes, I was engaged by Haydn in 1996 when I was 16. In those days I recorded a couple of symphonies in a cassette (Feuer and Maria Theresia). I had known Beethoven and Bach before, but that discovery was a shock: such a degree of craftmanship, of self-contained power, of utter witteness...

  • Sometimes (only sometimes) I think Haydn is even better than Mozart...

  • lovely!

  • What a virtuosic display on violin! Flat-out "sawin' away"!!!
