Donnie Baseball is a great person. I wish baseball writers would vote him in the HOF b/c he deserves to be in. As a Yankees fan, I think he was the face of the Yankees of the 1980's. His back injury prevented him from a blossoming career starting in the late 1980's, but he was a great hitter, gold glover nonetheless. He's a Yankees all the way.

its cause the Steinbrenners wanted someone that was a little easier for them to work with, Torre had alot of problems with them and the Stienbrenners probably would have a very difficult time working with Mattingly as the yankee manager.

Seriously, he is a class act with all kinds of courage. He's amazing. I wish him and Kim the best. People seem to frown more on female alcholics then male ones and that's not fair. It's a problem just like any other and I hope she can battle it and overcome it. And I hope Mattingly manages someday

I am a mets fan but I love Donnie, I think though he regrets retireing early then the year after they win the world series. I think this still bugs the hell out of him as well it shoul, i would be pissed if i played for 14 or so years without a ring the the year after i retire they win it all.
