  • how much copper do u get from one?

  • This sound like a emery for my ears))))))))

  • man u got the coolest scrapping stuff

  • Do you still cut then that way?

  • I got loads of them in the backyard here, could open them and such but what to do with the liquid in it?

  • @damyan2009 its just oil. I dump it in with my oil waste and get rid of it for free at the local waste transfer station

  • That was Lacuna coil in the beginning right? I have that cd.

  • Question: Is it worth the time and money(electricity) to take them apart like that.. Ive tons of compressors laying around but have never thought to scrap them like this... we only fetch a few bucks a Lbs for copper if that under 2dollars(US) for No.1 thanksf for posting mate really enjoy these videos.. cheers

  • did you get all those compressors for free or did you pay for them?

  • @karlomontemayor the junkyard I work for gave them to me (approx 5 tonns of them) for processing since they could not get rid of them un-processed.

only Condition was I don't sell the scrap to any other yard.

  • @Aussie50 5 tons of that is a significant amount of money and you get it for free! deym i wish someone would offer me that kind of deal to. how many of those can you separate in a day? after cutting it open are you supposed to separate the copper?

  • did you get all those compressors for free or you paid for them?

  • Thanks for the info.

  • How do you get a steady supply of them?

  • @MrLeonard55 they are discarded by the manufacturer in bulk. usually old stock or faulty batches.

  • i want to hear just the motor run until it overheats and blows sooooo bad

  • lol I can't remember what happened to the general rotary vids but it was rather anti-climactic.

they all just seize a bearing and stop, then the thermal switch in the motor windings shuts it down.

I will try and run one soon though. I'm just running out of room to work right now and need to re-arrange.

  • cuz the termal control is a little modual on the windinbgs rite? cuz iv takn em out before u should do that and hook the leads up to make a bridge over the thermal switch the power it up with the pump gone

  • yeah, if I can find it I will override it. somtimes they are buried between the coils.

  • Concratulations! You are a stunning "patenter" Now, find a adjustable mechanism that hold the grinder automatically towards compressor body in order to cut the weld while the compressor turntable turns! - I like the shirt you wear... it's a wacky one! It looks like a Huskvarna shirt. Which brand is it? It's a uniform? if it is wich company?

  • lol the shirts are standard high-vis work-ware, all OHSA approved along with matching coveralls.

I've aquired some surplus pneumatic rams and bits recently that may help making a semi-automated cutting machine.

  • Did this workwear was an uniform of a specific company i-e telephone, electricity or transports like railways? Or simply safety workwear available to any (local australian) workwear store? I have seen this workwear here in Quebec once anyone has bought a Huskvarna tree cutter to work on a landscaping project. Complete with hats, shirts and trousers but I don't know if coveralls were also available!

  • I got mine when I was working at a foundry, but it is available at most work wear stores, if not, similar brands and colors (usually green or yellow)

anyone can buy it in stores or order online in some cases.

  • Thanks a lot!!! Here in Quebec (Val D'Or), three miners were found dead in the bottom of the mine two days ago! Perhaps a lack of safety! The CSST search for the possible cause of that tragedy!

  • Damn, thats not good!, so many things can kill you in a mine shaft :(, no oxygen, fire, machines, cave-in.

  • You have worked at a foundry wich foundry was it and what type was it? Steel, Aluminium, Die cast? What your job was consisted and wich output (moulded) products were available from that foundry?

  • We did Aluminum Diecasting, and Aluminum and Bronze sand casting.

I was a Die Setter and lathe operator - come maintainence manager. if a die needed setting up, or something broke down I tended to it.

Most of our jobs in the die shop were for the lighting, automotive and engineering biz.

Brake calipers, Pool manifolds, pump impellers, axial fan blades and hubs, Cabin step brackets for Kenworth, Medical trolly bases, compactor components fo Wacker Australia,,, etc..

  • I'm curious about the compressor oil what type of oil is it and where can you recycle it? I scrap ac and dehumidifiers and come across these compressors. But they usually just smash them up in their grinder/ magnet sorters. I'm curious if it pays off to cut them open and scrap them instead after watching your videos.

Also have you thought about making a set up for your grinding wheel, that thing is a monster to hold up after a while of cutting.

  • I'm not sure where the best place is to recycle compressor oil is but I use mine as fuel!.

The 2 main oil types are mineral, and Polyester (POE). they both burn well, but it is advisable to keep them separate if you intend on using the oil for other things.

Things that contain oil are pretty much prohibited from scrap here so the compressors must be scrapped and drained accordingly. the best part is I get *45c per kilo of motor scrap from them. or more if I remove the copper alone.

  • wow that's an excellent idea for using the oil as fuel. Do you use it in propane heaters? Would be cool to see a video on how you reuse the oil.

That's an great price for motor scrap they only pay us at most .25 cents/ lb shell casings are .05/lb

I found a place that takes the compressors at .08/lb since I rarely come across more than 5 per month.

  • I inject the oil into a wood fired blast furnace, to boost the heat output for smelting metals.

By our dollar comparison, I think your getting more for your motor scrap than me! one pound is less than half a kilo, so in theory I'm getting 15 - 20c per lb,

  • For the grinder, I was thinking of making a telescopic arm with a yolk on it, similar to an old machinegun mount from a helicopter.

long as it takes the weight and allows me to swing around freely, it will work well!

  • Also for the telescopic arm you could salvage an old office chair those post can support 250 lb person plus they have swivels weld on less work.

for the yolk possible those old CRT monitor swivel arms, that I would believe would be hard to find since they don't produce those anymore. good luck hope to see what you create

  • I've got a couple of thoe old monitor arms in storage somewhere. I'll have to dig one out and see if I can free it up, they are too stiff as thay are, but softer springs would do the job!

  • Love that device you have come up with, really works well mate.

  • sure dose, it cuts a lot of time and effort off the overall process

  • Hell yer it would, Nice!

  • cool device ,,do you sell that scrap to junk yards

  • I sell it back to the yard that supplies me, I did some work for them when I was unemployed and as a result I get tonns of surplus scrap for free, provided I destroy it, dispose of hazardous and non-metal crap, and sell it through the same yard.

much of the Danfoss and other NOS gear isn't entirely mine, but in the end it will all be destroyed in accordance with the Certificate of Destruction.

the best part is, I get to play with it first!

  • nice!
