AND I ALSO AGREE WITH THAT OTHER GUY. DONT HATE ON NIRVANA PPL THEY ARE LEGENDS IN THERE OWN RIGHT AS WELL. NOT THERE FAULT THEY GOT BRANDED GEN X BAND OF THE 90'S.. KURT NVR GOT THE RECKOGNITION AS A GUITAR GOD BUT HE REALLY WAS THO, IN HIS OWN WAY
HAHAH AT THE DRIVE IN??? WTF PPL THEY DNT EVEN HOLD A MATCH TO JEHU'S INFERNO, IT AMAZES ME ALL THE TIME HOW DLJ NVR GETS THE CREDIT FOR SPAWING THIS ERA AND STYLE.. ATDI SHOULD HAVE DLJ TATTOOS AND BE PAYING ROYALITYS TO DLJ EVERY TIME ONE OF THERE SHITFEST OF SONGS GETS PLAYED ANYWHERE,ASSHOLES
takes me back to first hearing this band , my mate bought there cd from a small independant shop in wolverhampton (uk) in 1995. We took it back it to his house got stoned and couldnt believe how amazing this band was...i still do to this day. Minus the getting stoned bit.
Yeah, it was the '90's, and yeah they were before At the Drive-In. And to the guy who said that this was "god-awful". I'm sorry man, but this band influenced countless other bands and spawned the math-rock genre. What have you done, besides be a dick on YouTube?
Yup, this was on their '94 record Yank Crime (4 years previous to Napoleon Solo). Drive Like Jehu are definitely a massive influence on bands playing post-hardcore or otherwise. Great music that shouldn't ever be forgotten.
my dad went to high school with John...he lives up the street from me. anyone starting a band should try out John's record label Swami. pretty good stuff
Hi Gitty, check out my new videos, Big Black and Live Skull, CBGBs 1986. Fantastic video and sound quality. Plus I have that one Al's Bar Drive Like Jehu show at way better quality than the copy you have. I'll send you the DVDs in exchange for those two other Drive Like Jehu shows you have on DVD, it'll really be worth it!
I sort of saw these guys in slc i was 18 and they played in a bar so we could not get in john ries came and hung out with us and they gave us some free posters and stickers. I would have loved to have seen them live.
This is pure paradise for those of us who never thought that we'd be able to see live footage of this mesmerizing band. I am very happy to see this Jehu footage on YT. Really makes my day. Thank you for posting this.
Do any of you jehu fans listen to pitchfork? Has anyone ever seen any footage? Thanks again for posting this footage. It is like a dream come true to see one of the few bands I really respect play. Thank you. Thank you.
Gitty--e-mail me--I've got a great quality DVD of that Drive Like Jehu performance that you posted Caress from (see the videos I posted)...I need copies of the whole Galaxy Club show and that show that the If It Kills You is from!
Wordless. Welcome slight opening/ending variations (considering album version, which this performance might have been superior to) too. Excellent post-DoYouCompute nonetheless.
well,im a smoker,u see...n i think "do u compute" is actually the one song i ve smoked the highest number of cigs to in my entire life just playin the vinyl very loud in my headphones n doin nothin but wonderin how its actually possible to do something that moving...it means so much to me that the video should of course come as a slight disappointment...but actually its not the case,as i can truly feel the vibe here...thanx for all these jehu live on here...
Man, I've always been fond of this band and this track. Wish I could of seen them live in their heyday.

Is this song polyrythmic at the start? I'm shit with time signatures so I can't tell...
Henderbeef 1 year ago
@Henderbeef I think its just 3/4?
Mewgia 1 year ago
@Henderbeef no, i don't think so. i think it starts on 2 1/2 on a 2:2 time signature. a syncopation of sorts

The beginning riff reminds me a bit of "Napoleon Solo" by At The Drive In.
But, I'm still new to opening my mind to music so forgive me if these guys were way before them. I'm sorry ahead of time :).
Either way, I like the overall buildup of the song. If this was in the 90's, that's amazing.
This easily sounds like modern post-rock.

The riffs are somewhat simple but share a feeling of progression yet similarity hence the looping of some of the riffs.
I love how post rock resembles feeling basically.
