  • AND I ALSO AGREE WITH THAT OTHER GUY. DONT HATE ON NIRVANA PPL THEY ARE LEGENDS IN THERE OWN RIGHT AS WELL. NOT THERE FAULT THEY GOT BRANDED GEN X BAND OF THE 90'S.. KURT NVR GOT THE RECKOGNITION AS A GUITAR GOD BUT HE REALLY WAS THO, IN HIS OWN WAY

  • @Jpanetta EVERYBODY IS LEAVING COMMENTS IN CAPS!!! I love Drive Like Jehu

  • HAHAH AT THE DRIVE IN??? WTF PPL THEY DNT EVEN HOLD A MATCH TO JEHU'S INFERNO, IT AMAZES ME ALL THE TIME HOW DLJ NVR GETS THE CREDIT FOR SPAWING THIS ERA AND STYLE.. ATDI SHOULD HAVE DLJ TATTOOS AND BE PAYING ROYALITYS TO DLJ EVERY TIME ONE OF THERE SHITFEST OF SONGS GETS PLAYED ANYWHERE,ASSHOLES

  • I want to go back to the 90's, when I was 17 - from NY to Diego - to see Jehu

  • Brings me back to 94' right before I got my license... and right before I lost my virginity!

  • Where good bands come from!

  • thanks for this. damn love this band.

  • This video is too good. I'm so thankful this exists.

  • if it wasn't for jehu, i'd probally still be listing to nirvana

  • @sunchild90 Dont hate on nirvana man, they get enough shit from underground whiners.

  • @hojima good.

  • Good thing for YouTube, gittty. You have so much freakin' awesome live music that just has to be seen! Was this '95 by chance?

  • great band.

  • Jehu fucking rocks!!!!!

  • Is this song polyrythmic at the start? I'm shit with time signatures so I can't tell...

  • @Henderbeef I think its just 3/4?

  • @Henderbeef no, i don't think so. i think it starts on 2 1/2 on a 2:2 time signature. a syncopation of sorts

  • Motherfucking Reis is a guitar god, only cool and not lame like other guitar gods.

  • awesomest rock guitar tones. i recall listening to this album on the way to high school every morning

  • I always get a kick out of seeing John, aka the Music Swami on Yo GabbaGabba!

  • im sure we all think we know what shes saying but can anyone single it and make it out?

  • Don't ever touch the King of Cool again

  • one of my all time favorite bands - i wish they would reform.... everyone else is!

  • My cousins from San Diego put me on to this band years ago. They kept it real.

  • just ordered this cd, eagerly awaiting its arrival in the post :)

  • I N D I E: indie or indy

  • The beginning riff reminds me a bit of "Napoleon Solo" by At The Drive In.

But, I'm still new to opening my mind to music so forgive me if these guys were way before them. I'm sorry ahead of time :).

Either way, I like the overall buildup of the song. If this was in the 90's, that's amazing.

This easily sounds like modern post-rock.

  • Yeah, it was the '90's, and yeah they were before At the Drive-In. And to the guy who said that this was "god-awful". I'm sorry man, but this band influenced countless other bands and spawned the math-rock genre. What have you done, besides be a dick on YouTube?

  • @darkbeach72

    "what have you done?"

great comment sir, let's all keep our wits about us. this kid is probably listening to Miley Cyrus as we type.

  • @ColinGWood Sorry, man. I guess I got a little worked up there.

  • yes, this was in the 90's quite a bit before omar and cedric got together.

  • Yup, this was on their '94 record Yank Crime (4 years previous to Napoleon Solo). Drive Like Jehu are definitely a massive influence on bands playing post-hardcore or otherwise. Great music that shouldn't ever be forgotten.

    DO YOU COMPUTE?

  • The riffs are somewhat simple but share a feeling of progression yet similarity hence the looping of some of the riffs.

I love how post rock resembles feeling basically.

  • That chick at the end was gorgeous.

Great sounds, man. The guitarist with the Les Paul was amazing.

  • He's Speedo of R.F.T.C. now on Hot Snakes.....

  • Hot Snakes broke up in 2005, now John a.k.a. "Speedo" fronts the Night Marchers, and Rick fronts the Obits.

  • Both great bands, & I listen to them both.. never knowing there was a link.

    Thanks!

  • @gittty im like 99% sure they reunited at the casbah last month

  • very neat.

  • Where can we hear your band?

  • they don't exist anymore ):

  • Pwn, nice job.

  • my dad went to high school with John...he lives up the street from me. anyone starting a band should try out John's record label Swami. pretty good stuff

  • hells yeah! good ol days

  • dude, I'm in love with this Drive Like Jehu

  • i know how you feel

  • that was awesome! at the end that's why bass players rule, :D whatever she said to him lol.

  • @CaseyJ2009 I'll bet you anything she wanted to fuck him because of that insane bassline.

  • freaking genius!

  • Matt Froberg + John Reis = Subliminally beautiful noisemaking

  • i heard they were pretty big at ihop!

  • Yank Crime is one of the best albums from the 90s. Can't believe these guy's never became a big, house hold name.

  • I can. But that's ok with me.

  • the biggest in my house

  • love how the gtrs. harmonize at the beginning of this song

  • There's just too many great bands from the 90s--DLJ was one of them way up at the top for me. thanks so much for the post.

  • Gittty - I just watched an Unwound video you posted. Great to see you're a fan of Drive Like Jehu also. Both superb bands!

  • the guitar sounds like a violin

  • Do any of you jehu fans listen to pitchfork? Has anyone ever seen any footage? Thanks again for posting this footage. It is like a dream come true to see one of the few bands I really respect play. Thank you. Thank you.

  • Gitty--e-mail me--I've got a great quality DVD of that Drive Like Jehu performance that you posted Caress from (see the videos I posted)...I need copies of the whole Galaxy Club show and that show that the If It Kills You is from!

  • I was at that show, they were absolutely amazing, thanks for posting this! Too bad I only got to see them twice before they broke up.

And for the guy that asked when it was, I think it was in '94 if I remember correctly.

  • Thank you for posting. Anyone have any pitchfork?

  • Wordless. Welcome slight opening/ending variations (considering album version, which this performance might have been superior to) too. Excellent post-DoYouCompute nonetheless.

  • what year was this?

  • Thanks for posting this! Can I request "New Math"? Pretty please?

  • I fucking love how they take their time unfolding the song! Great progressive rock!

  • Wow, the end of that song really was interesting. ;) Thanks for uploading this clip.
